THEE episode I’ve been waiting for you to see since the very beginning!!! I can’t wait to watch this!! omg 😭

Leo Cap

the misdirect in the opening... chefs kiss "because this man is your father"

Alkaris

Amy would have been taken well before they met up with The Doctor in America, because that was when she first sees the woman with the sliding hatch appear, the link between where she was and the ganger was breaking in between as something only Ganger Amy could see. At least thats what I think happened anyway.

Lintrinsic

I love this episode. River's expression when she greets Rory and the words "It's my birthday." always hit me on rewatch. It's such a tiny, subtle bit of foreshadowing you can never spot first time around.

Nathan Jasper

SUCH an amazing episode and yes, despite knowing what was going to happen, still cried like a giant baby! Karen's reaction to both of THOSE moments was so perfect which just made it all feel real and alive. Definitely one of the best plot twists.

Iwasneverhere

The Witch King of Angmar talking about Gandalf: I will BREAK him. Steven Moffat talking about Angela: Hold my beer

Dani

Fantastic. I don't think any of us caught on that River was Melody even with the foreshadowing throughout.

ZapWing

Yes, River knew the entire time. It's curious where if you re-watch the first two episodes, there's a small moment where Rory sees a Silent behind River and she just instinctually shoots behind her and never questioned him on it. Additionally, I love the moment the Doctor saw the baby for the first time with Amy and Rory he points to the baby and laugh. While not tongue and cheek, but kinda makes you think that maybe, somehow, the Doctor knew he'd be pointing and laughing at an archeologist.

Death Lego

Episode 2 of this series was when I thought this was a possibility of who River could be. Only once the regeneration happened in the alley. This was was when two people, could arguably be thought of as maybe one. The how, when, and why things could be stitched together, I had to wait for.

Cleverusernamed97

I love this meme 10: I'm a time traveler, I point and laugh at archaeologists. 11: Literally points and laughs at baby pond. Also, I'm pretty sure I read in past comments on other reaction channels that Captain Jack was supposed to be in this episode, and I think he was going to lose his head and become the face of Boe, but the actor was busy with something else. I could be wrong though. I can't believe we're finally on this episode.

Purple Dragon Knight

I think this season is one of the reasons so many of us were happy you chose to watch Doctor Who. And there's still more to come. I'm also proud of the others for not spoiling it. Thank you, all and thank you, Angela!

Mastervodo

Finally got to my favorite episodes in all of Dr. Whodom! Love it!

Tommy

Yeah, he was filming Arrow so couldnt be apart of this. He did get a reference this episode though.

Tommy

She noticed his reaction when the Silent popped up in Rory's eyes.

ZapWing

Bring new context for it though! She saw the signs just never factored in the wibbly wobblies

Tommy

Might be my favourite reaction to River's reveal of all the reactions ive seen.

AnastasiyaK

I have seen this episode so many times but girl, I still cried along with you at the end!!! I love this episode so freaking much, it’s probably my favorite Doctor Who episode of all time. That last scene with River and the Doctor, and River’s speech to him is one of my top scenes of the whole show. But the whole episode is just amazing. Rory being the badass that he is in the beginning, getting introduced to a bunch of new characters, bringing back so many people from previous episodes, the “colonel runaway” speech the Doctor gives, Lorna Bucket, and of course finally finding out who River is. Truly just the best episode!! And a truly great reaction to it! Also, I love River so freaking much, she was probably the character I was most looking forward to seeing your reaction to, especially in the library episodes and then this one!!

Joel Palenychka

My favorite quote from the entire series: "Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many."

.-NYX-.

where are you finding your full episodes dear? none of the stream services seem to have it, and the internet archive only has 1/2 of this season :/ ... plz plz help

TGrimace

I was so worried you were going to figure out the twist before the reveal. You often grab onto an idea, or something small in the episode, and then turn it around and around in your head. Usually it's something unrelated to anything going on (read: Dream Lord), but this time it was the poem. For many episodes you've been bringing up that damn poem, and I kept thinking "She's going to say it. She going to guess that River is Amy's child" especially when she finds out the baby's name is Melody. I'm so happy you got to be surprised the way most of us were!

funnylilgalreacts

Believe me when I read “Melody p Pond“ I wanted to say “that’s a little too close to River Song“ I’m so happy I didn’t. It definitely would’ve put the idea in my head.

funnylilgalreacts

I already loved her so much and this really doesn’t help 😂 unfortunately now I think I’m going to be obsessed

funnylilgalreacts

It would’ve been great to have Jack, but I’m happy that this is the episode we got.

funnylilgalreacts

I honestly just thought that we were gonna find out that she was the Dr’s future wife. I would’ve bet my house that was the reveal. Good thing I don’t bet.

funnylilgalreacts

Re-watching the episode there’s so much foreshadowing that you don’t pick up on

funnylilgalreacts

I knew she was talking about Rory, but they definitely made it sound like she was talking about the doctor until the end. But then that entrance from Rory is just epic.

Mastervodo

DEFINITELY my favorite reaction to River's reveal!

Mastervodo

Me as well. Been waiting for Angela to get to this bit!

Ben

If you were wondering what the weird ending with 'The Doctor will Return' caption was all about, this series was split into two halves with the first 7 episodes broadcast between April-June 2011 and the other 6 between August-October 2011 so this episode is the mid series finale and meant that us watching at the time were sitting on that cliff hanger for nearly 3 months! Also, great reaction. Was well worth the year and a half wait for you to get here!

Cleverusernamed97

This episode is one of the reasons I say Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor, because I really enjoy most of the stories from his run. And yeah, it would've been cool to see Jack again, but maybe it would also be a bit jarring seeing Jack getting his head taken. Especially since so much is going on in this episode already, and we don't necessarily have to see him because of the face of Boe. Anyway, I'm excited for the reaction to the season finale.

dean worrall

and this was a mid season break point for us.. we had to wait months for the next episode....

Jay Willis

One of those twists that really lands well. Never saw it coming, kudos to any who did beyond the "throwing an idea at the wall" type of thought. :P Probably my favorite Dr Who episode just because of the reveal at the end. When you go back and watch River episodes they land differently knowing Amy and Rory are her parents, and she was pretending the entire time that they weren't.

DieWinterkirsche

Angela, now remember... we and the Doctor know Rivers (Amys and Rorys child) fate... and the Doctor can´t tell anyone...

Tim C

Best. Episode. Ever! What really puts your head in a vise is when you play back the "normal" timeline we perceive (AKA, the Doctor's) and then River's timeline. At this point in the story, we know the Doctor's past... and River's future. And in River's future, she encounters a younger Doctor and reveals to him that she knows his real name. The meaning of that is implied then, but I don't think it was outright stated. I have always loved how Matt Smith played figuring it out. The little laugh when he realizes he's basically in a "relationship" with Amy and Rory's daughter was brilliant. I wonder if Rory's planning on giving the Doctor the "rules for dating my daughter" speech? :D And oof, traveling around through time and space with your girlfriends parents? Awkward! Great reaction! I think I'm glad that the medicine may have slowed you down a bit. It really felt like you were just a tiny nudge away from putting all the pieces together just a bit too soon. Which - after I've watched these episodes over and over - I realize isn't unlikely. The reveal is very clever, but not ultra subtle. I didn't put together "river" and "pond", but I didn't really think about the name either. Though it's easy to see it's a very small step if you're actually thinking about it. However, you had just the right amount of drugs in your system to prevent spoiling yourself a bit too soon, but not so much that it kept you from embracing the moment. So kudos, I guess, for taking the exact perfect dosage required for the episode! :D I have enjoyed all of your reactions (from Doctor Who to all the other properties), but that scene was especially impactful for me. Watching moments like that a second time through the reaction of someone else's first time is as close as we can get to having that experience again. So thank you for sharing your journey through Doctor Who with us!

Luka Poser

It's a frankly insane magic trick Moffat pulled off. Most of the mysteries from the premiere answer each other's questions and could be worked out ahead of time. But in being presented as separate pieces of information, you get so blindsided by how the reveal pulls them together. And yes, we were left hanging on that ending for THREE WHOLE MONTHS!

Jacob King

Melody Pond is a superhero! You never get a Lorna episode because the Doctor doesn’t actually remember her. Part of River calling the Doctor out is because he can disrupt someone’s whole life and world and it doesn’t touch him in the same way it did at the beginning.

Jordan Boulton

This is absolutely the correct reaction

John

Rory bringing the BIG DAD™ energy!

Peter Powis

That was such a great reaction, thank you! That's why I'm a member. You care for the characters so deeply, it's brilliant! Great episode - such a moment when River reveals who she is! Feel so bad for Lorna, would love to know more of her backstory. I love the next episode too! So complex (need to be rewatched several times) but so so good!!

John

This is one of my favorite episodes. I totally did NOT catch that River was Amy and Rory's daughter. I just stared in disbelief during that scene, unable to wrap my head around it. Someone else mentioned we didn't have a scene with Lorna. She was there to point out how just an unremarkable encounter with the Doctor can forever change a person's life. Rewatching Silence in the Library and the Forest of the Dead hits different after seeing this episode. That's when River mentioned the Doctor could turn an army way just at the mention of his name. We've not seen that, as well as the Crash of the Byzantium that River mentioned in her journal when Ten first meets her. I'm so glad you weren't spoiled on River's reveal. I look forward to being able to discuss more story points once you've at least completed this Series.

John

There are worse things to be obsessed over. River is hands down my favorite character in all of New Who. Once you catch up to the new Doctor Who episodes, you should go back and watch River Song's timeline.

Jeren

Maybe it was some sort of formative moment in my life when I saw it the first time, but.. dozens of re-watches later, I still can't pin down why that last scene has such an emotional effect on me. I know what happens, I know what the reveal is. But still, every time..

Avatar Continuum

I love re-watching the end of this episode and seeing it play out from the Doctors perspective instead of Amy's who didn't understand the conversation The Doctor and River had. 10th Doctor: "River, you know my name. You whispered my name in my ear. There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could." (from the Library episode where we met River) 11th Doctor: "It's my cot... I slept in it." (The Doctor's real name presumably written on it) River: "Oh look your cot, haven't seen that in a very long time." (Since she slept in it as a baby... minutes earlier in the episode.) River: "I am telling you... can't you read." (Telling the Doctor she knows the cot is his because she can read his name on it.) River: "It's because it's Gallifreyan and doesn't translate" (Telling Amy that Gallifreyan can't be translated even by the Tardis and she has learned to read it.)

Molly Campbell

I have been WAITING for this episode since you started the series way back when. Love this episode so, so much! I knew your reaction was going to be great and you didn't disappoint!

Matthew Case

One thing I only realized recently, is that it foreshadows River being the baby early on, as when she met Rory at the beginning of the episode, it was also Rivers birthday.

Molly Campbell

OMG, that never even crossed my mind before! How dense can I be?

Rach

When it comes to writing for Who, Moffat in my view is the best to ever do it, and episodes like this prove it. And he's still got a lot more to come from here! He has flaws but the abilty to pull a reveal like this and it feel earned, emotional, and not cheap? That's generational talent.

John B

You can now go back and watch when Amy met River in S5 E4 from the perspective of a daughter interacting with her mother. It puts a lot more meaning into what River says.

Thomas Gabriel White

You should go back and see River's interactions with Amy and Rory there are certain moments that make a lot of sense after learning they are her parents.

Ejigantor

I remember watching this when it first aired, and immediately went back to the start of the episode and watched the whole thing again. I didn't catch onto the River / Pond thing at all. I remember when we heard "The only water in the Gamma Forest is the river" from the Idris TARDIS a few episodes back trying to think of how the phrase could relate to River Song, and it never occurred to relate the phrase to Amy Pond. The cold open of this episode is one of my absolute favorites. I actually peeked ahead and watched it after last week's reaction.

Ejigantor

I disagree; I think he does remember them all, just like he said, but he hasn't been to the Gamma Forest yet. He knew they ran because there's always running.

Martin

Fun fact, even Matt Smith, Karen and Arthur didn't know the ending until almost the day of filming, the original script has a different ending and Moffett told Alex the real ending a while before but only they knew up until very close to when it got shot, she was holding spoilers in real life too!

Nicholas Sulikowski

I said several episodes ago that the best part of rewatching Moffat's run is being able to see all the connections and set-ups being placed early on, and now knowing what it all means and what it's leading to. And this episode was another big reveal that feels really fun to revisit as someone who now knows what's going to happen, but can also see how it was all leading here. And this run is far from over.

Tiny Octopus

Once you're done, you should watch the River Song edit. It takes all of River's appearances and you watch them from her point of view, going through her timeline. Don't need to react, just watch it for yourself. It's amazing seeing how well the entire thing was crafted. It's one of my favorite ways to watch the Doctor

Carl Wilson

Well, you were absolutely the right person to rewatch this series with. I remember all the feelings the first time I saw this, but there's so much more of a release sharing it with someone who reacts so openly and fully.

Paulo

Such a great episode.

Michael Jones

We never did see Lorna or her meeting the Doctor in the Gamma Forest before this, so you didn't miss anything. However, the actress who played Lorna is currently starring as Lt La'an Noonien-Singh in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. A recent episode of that show threw the the TARDIS into the background of some effects shots too. I guess he finally came back for her.

J.W. Moore

This is the absolute best twist in the whole series. This is how you build a story. Steven Moffat is the GOAT! I loved your reaction. Honestly, you held it together more than I did. If there is something worse than an ugly cry, that’s what I did.

Ashy899

Possibly my favourite 11th doctor episode - I do feel sorry for people watching this for the first time as all these little bits only start to make sense once you've watched the entire story (at least they did for me 😅)

Michael Jones

Oh, I can't believe I didn't mention this one in my last comment. We have seen Demon's Run before. In Season 5's "The Time of Angels", the Doctor and Amy visited a museum in an asteroid called "The Delirium Archive" which the Doctor describes as "The final resting place of the Headless Monks."

Benji_1984

There's a little hint towards the end of the 2nd episode this season, River was shooting up the Silence with Rory watching from the Tardis door she said, "My old fella didn't see that, did he? He gets ever so cross."

Crassus

Now you know what the big bang was referring to.

Lonnie Langston

I couldn't wait until next week for Demons Run, so I paid for it. Worth it. :D These episodes alone are why I love the Matt Smith run so much, and there's still more to go. I think his stories were the best, and I do love "Angry Doctor" (aka Daemon Targaryen).

bentendo

To think when this series broadcast we at this point got a mid-series break and had to wait months to see what happened next! A Good Man Goes to War: June 4, 2011 Let's Kill Hitler: August 27, 2011 Sometimes I do prefer those gaps in broadcasts though, to get those water cooler moments that streaming and binge watching has all but destroyed sadly. When you catch up and Doctor Who returns Christmas 2026 you'll be on the same time stream as the rest of us I guess! ;)
