Excited to watch this later. If you liked it, I highly recommend Guillermo del Toro's wintery gothic romance horror Crimson Peak. The main character in that is inspired by Mary Shelly who wrote Frankenstein. It's perfect for a rainy/snowy night cuz of the imagery in the film. It's one of my favorites of his.

My favorite movie adaptation of Frankenstein is the one with De Niro and Helena Bonham Carter. So many tears. But I'm watching this for the first time with you.

Really good movie! Never read the novel. But seen many other versions. Prometheus was the Titan god of forethought in Greek mythology, known for being a craftsman and creator of humankind. He is most famous for defying Zeus by stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humanity. In addition to fire, he taught humans many skills like writing, mathematics, and the art of metallurgy. Frankenstein is called "The Modern Prometheus" because Victor Frankenstein, like the Greek Titan Prometheus, defies the gods by creating life through his scientific ambition. Both figures are punished for overstepping their boundaries: Prometheus for gifting fire to humanity and Victor for creating a sentient being, which leads to the death of his loved ones. This subtitle highlights the novel's themes of playing God, the dangers of forbidden knowledge, and the tragic consequences of unchecked ambition.

A new iteration of Bride of Frankenstein releases in March with Christian Bale playing as Frankenstein monster called The Bride

Cabinet of curiosities would be an awesome set of reactions as well

Prometheus was also punished by the gods by being chained to a rock and eagles would come and peck out his liver - which would then re-grow for the next day so they could do it again. And Christoph Waltz says at one point "I will be the eagle that eats your liver".

So if you haven't seen any other Frankenstein movies that must mean you haven't seen Young Frankenstein. Can we put that on a poll sometime?

That a complete 180 turn in tone! She needs to watch it!! :p

This film is stunning, not my favourite telling of Frankenstein but definitely the prettiest

For me, the biggest "acceptance hurdle" I had to overcome wasn't the stark differences between this particular Frankenstein story and all of the others (especially the original novel), but the "science". Not only was the medical science of this era an utter joke (and therefore completely incapable of building a human from spare parts), Victor's creation is endowed with far more Deadpool-esque superhero-fantasy-magic than anatomical engineering. But whatever. Just take this story for what it is. It's different from its clones for a reason. This story begins with a long series of shocking "what ifs" and then beautifully plays them out to a bitter and tragic end. It seems like most reactors dive into this movie thinking they're going to get some crass monster-horror flick, and then they get impaled through the heart with this achingly gorgeous eulogy to life itself.
