Lance hendrickson was also one of the detectives in the Terminator as well. Also a deleted scene shows ripley coming across Burke in her search for newt and he had a chest buster as well. Deserved

James Miller

A great movie, possibly better than the original. They're just very different.

...punch him in the d!ck... HAHA Aliens, one of my favorite movies and probably the best sci-fi action movie (and best heroine) of all time. So glad you reacted to the special edition too. It has extra scenes regarding Ripley's daughter and some action sequences on the planet. Yes, Michael Biehn was in the first Terminator. In fact, James Cameron likes to reuse actors in his movies (Bill Paxton, Sigourney Weaver). And yes, the loader could have been the inspiration to some of the tech in Avatar since James Cameron directed both!

Leo Cap

i'm sorry... but Bishop's top half rolling away in the wind is SO FUNNY

David Plunkett

Michael Biehn's character in The Terminator was named Kyle Reese.

I say you should watch Alien3 just so that you have context for Alien4, which was written by Joss Whedon and has a lot of the storytelling elements that he used later in Firelfy.

Sone

My opinion don't watch rest of the Alien movies especially part 3 . They mess up that one real bad , but on the end it's up to you . Predator 1 and 2 watch for sure .

Robert

Glad you watched the Special Edition. Learning about Ripley's daughter and getting the iconic sentry gun scene is well worth the slight increase in run time.

JBK405

I was LAUGHING at the start when you were talking about how you hoped he didn't die. Only thinking "Just you wait..."

JBK405

I was one of the people saying you should watch the Special Edition, and I'm very glad you did, but I will say the Theatrical Release isn't BAD. It's only a question of "Good" and "EVEN BETTER". I'd be interested to hear your thoughts if you do watch it on your own time. I recommend stopping here when it comes to the "Alien" franchise. Or at least viewing these first two films as a self-contained, complete story and everything else as a ripoff sequel. You can stil enjoy ripoff sequels (I LOVE some ripoff sequels), but recognize that it's not part of the original thing. I think that's the best way to experience the rest without having them "taint" these first two films. When it comes to Ripley going back to save Newt but not the other soldiers, I think it's a question of TIME. The other soldiers were already in the nest when the Xenomorphs grabbed them, so by the time Hudson even talked about going back for them they would have already been infested. Whereas Newt was grabbed at the human colony, meaning they've got to bring her back and cocoon her before she gets infested. That gives Ripley a short window for the rescue, and that's what she did.

The Lore Merchant

Before the movie Angela: "I love Paul Reiser! Don't tell me he dies!" Later in the movie Angela: "F*** you Paul, I hope you die slowly!"

The Lore Merchant

Bishop reveal: "I don't trust you! I'm watching you!" End of film: "Oh no, Bishop!"

Michael Siegel

One of the few sequels that is on par with the original, mainly because it decides to be its own movie and not just rehash the first one. As time has gone on, I've realized that this is a great movie, a classic. And very glad you watched the special edition. It adds a bit of depth and breadth. And that one moment -- "Ellen" "Dwayne" -- is so lovely. One of my favorite little scenes -- one that gets little attention -- is when Ripley asks the Marines if she can help and uses the lifter. Sets up the finales, yes, but also tells you so much about her character.

Ryan Alexander

"Get away from her you Bitch!" Still one of the all time great movie lines

space shit!!!!! haven't watched this one with you yet but if you're ready to go down this franchise's rabbit hole then let's go. not all are this level quality but all are good enough to watch. This one is just better. Also the series Alien Earth was really good imo. Timothy Olyphant is so good in it as a creepy synth. and it really gives us our best look into the world and politics in which Weyland-Yutani ,Prodigy and other Corporate-states operate.

I agree with your take on whether to watch additional movies in the series. It’s fine so long as they’re viewed for what they are — money-grab sequels rather than a thoughtful continuation of the story. In my view “Alien 3” in particular doesn’t connect well to “Aliens” because the stage-setting events at the movie’s beginning are so contrived. The movie is stylistically interesting and arguably worth a watch on its own merits, but as the next chapter in Ripley’s journey it just doesn’t feel credible.

Alien 3 is a poster child for “troubled production.” It’s a flawed but interesting watch, particularly the Assembly Cut, but it is an unremittingly bleak story with some narrative choices guaranteed to make you bawl angry, devastated tears. I concur with the suggestion to stop here, though Alien Romulus (set between Alien and Aliens) might be worth your while. I enjoyed it with the caveat that it was a bit too smugly self conscious about referencing the other films in the series, which would be less of a problem if you haven’t seen 3, Resurrection, Prometheus or Covenant.

Moricant

The special edition includes a number of additional scenes: Ripley learning about her daughter’s death The scenes on LV-426 prior to the Marines’ arrival Everything involving the sentry guns Ripley and Hicks sharing their first names

Sean

My thoughts exactly. She'll be so happy when he dies.

I agree that Alien 3 is a tough follow up to Aliens, so if you go in expecting complete tonal, narrative and thematic continuity between the two movies, you’re going to be disappointed (as many of the franchise’s fans were and have never stopped yapping about since). It’s about as sharp a transition from Aliens as Aliens was from Alien - it’s just a different genre film in the same franchise. I’m a big Alien 3 apologist, personally. I was a kid when it came out, so I understand intuitively why it received so much reflexive backlash from the Aliens crowd, but I still enjoyed it and have only grown to appreciate it more as the years go by. The cast is exceptional, the cinematography might be the best in the franchise, and Elliot Goldenthal’s score is a masterpiece. It has some of the most moving dialog, the most haunting visuals, and it gave us the single most iconic shot in the entire franchise. Most importantly, in my opinion, Alien 3 elevates Ripley from the bad ass action star she became in Aliens to a truly transcendent mythological cinematic heroine. I can’t really imagine dipping one’s toe in the Alien universe without giving this movie a shot. It bookends the first three movies beautifully, if not fully to the fans’ expectations.

James Fleischman

I love Alien Resurrection. It's definitely underappreciated.

Cody Eckert

It is absolutely not a waste to watch the other Alien movies. 3 and Resurrection definitely aren't as good as Alien and Aliens, but they are still a good time. As others have mentioned, watch the Assembly Cut of 3. Whatever you do, don't skip 3 and go straight to Ressurection. You'll be missing important context and be incredibly confused. Prometheus and Covenant should be watched with the understanding that they are essentially a standalone duology. Romulus is a fantastic movie and takes place somewhere between Alien and Aliens. I would also give at least the first AvP a watch, just because it's a fun popcorn flick. AvP2 is forgettable and can probably be skipped.

Cody Eckert

The Assembly Cut makes Alien 3 much better.
