Nowhere Man

And if Wednesday Season 2 wasn't already convoluted enough, now it twists in a new direction. "How is he so dumb?" Wednesday and Angela: great minds think alike. I think the greatest underlying cause of the friction between Wednesday and Morticia is that this iteration of the Addams Family depicts Wednesday as a truth-seeker and Morticia as a secret-keeper. Morticia isn't overly threatened by Wednesday's thirst for the truth, but Wednesday is definitely enraged by her mother's bottomless pit of secrets. Somehow, Wednesday is going to have to find a more adult way of coping with their stark differences because these two women will never change who they are.

Great reaction - this was the second episode I couldn't wait for you to see. Your happiness when you watched the dance was exactly my reaction, too...😊 We know one little bit about Hester Frump. Rosalind Rotwood (Lady Gaga) said Hester Frump was too much in love and too much yearning for a family, to be a true raven. Yet we see her as a kind of a bitter loner hating men, hating having emotions and hating family in general. On the other hand she has two daughters. So there is a fair share of drama in her past...🤔🙂 No one does grumpy, posh arrogance and disdain better than Joanna Lumley...🤩 Gideon is played by Casper Van Dien...😊 "Viva Venezuela!" - that didn't age well...😅🙈 Can you imagine what Dort looks like when he un-stones? Probably more like someone from "Fallout"...😅🙈 "I have no problem hunting you down" is practically like a big warm hug from Wednesday, but more important are the subtle changes in her face when Enid says: "The truth is, you're my pack, Wednesday." You can see how incredibly moved she is by Enids declaration. Really well acted by Jenna Ortega. By both of them, actually. Jenna Ortega is so great at showing how Wednesdays suppressed emotions threatening to boil up and spill over from time to time, but catching herself at the last moment. The dance scene was so beautiful and really cute. Plus it masqueraded Agnes' abscence perfectly. They did it exactly in the way two teenage girls that are not professional dancers would do it - not perfect, but passionate and with a lot of heart...💃🏻💃🏻 Apparently Lady Gaga liked the girls dance routine (which they learned in only a week!) so much that she invited them to join her on stage at her "Monsters Ball" concert in London last fall. So Lady Gaga, Emma Myers and Evie Templeton danced together on stage to "Dead Dance"...🤩 You can find a clip on YT. I would love if they let Ajax and Bianca develop their own relationship. It must not necessarily be love, a heartfelt friendship would be fine, too. No matter what - if they let it develop slowly and naturally and it fits the characters, I'm all for it. For a moment there I thought you had figured it all out, but no - we have to wait until the finale next week...😉😀 Can't wait for it...😊🙌

I know we can't get specific for obvious reasons, but out of curiosity - what do you mean with twisting in a new direction? The whole season followed the same direction ever since they steered away from the leftovers of season 1? There were so many clues from early on as to how this will end...🤔😊

Nowhere Man

With this season, there's no solitary villain or "case" to be solved. Episode by episode, there's constantly new: threats, antagonists, and objectives. In other words, the target keeps moving. Every single time a problem is solved, a new one pops up. In that regard, this season felt a bit more episodic than Season 1. In Season 1, the villains were foreshadowed but never revealed until the final episodes, but the overall (villainous) plot was unified. Because of that, all 8 episodes felt as though they were building toward the climax. In Season 2, again, both the characters and the viewers are left in the dark until the final episode, but not all of the many antagonists in this season were working together toward the same goal. Instead of everything building toward a single climax, this season has zigzagged through a few different subplot climaxes. When I watched Season 2 for the first time, the constant plot twists felt a little scattered. From a writing perspective, the choice to not focus on a single story for a single season seemed borderline reckless. I also felt as though the characters in Season 2 were less driven by internal motivations and more driven by plot mechanics, as though the writers were playing speed chess with the characters, and more for the sake of clever plots than character dynamics. Beyond the many subplots, my first impression of Season 2 was that lead characters were all acting like their stereotypical selves, rather than organically reaching and growing toward something new. However, after rewatching the entire second season, I'm liking it much more. The real problem wasn't the show but my expectations after Season 1. I was expecting writing with more focus and nuance (like the first season of Twin Peaks), but instead, I got some hybrid between 1980s sitcoms, where outrageousness is completely normal, and GOT chapters, where the constant fear of hidden dangers matters more than consistency. Season 2 is just a different animal than Season 1, but the end result is still a quality show. I can't wait to see what writing approach is taken with Season 3: The Search for Enid. Maybe having a quest-like plot device with give it a tighter focus. It would be nice if both Wednesday and Enid could learn something important from their upcoming ordeals, and maybe inch towards becoming slightly better versions of themselves. Maybe Enid could learn to be a little more self-confident and courageous (as a human) and Wednesday could learn to tone down her selfish assholery and not be so damn stingy with her compliments of others.

Thanks for your detailed answer! 😊 Now I can see your point and I'm with you on most of it. For me it didn't feel necessarily scattered, as more split in two different parts with (too) many subplots and one underlying bigger plot where those parts build up to. Clever plots indeed. I'm with you on the very different tone of season 2. The change in production as well as in the writing. They moved from Romania to Ireland, had a bigger budget and a bigger studio lot. And it all shows. The different tone in writing (I think it is mostly Jenna Ortegas increasing influence on it) on top of it makes it feel like a different show sometimes, but as you said - still a quality show...😊

Season 3 is indeed confirmed! Man that dance with Enid and Agnes...*Chef's kiss*! I don't know which one I like more, their dance or Wednesday's from season 1. Although, the fact that Enid and Agnes' dance had a Lady Gaga song did earn some big points so maybe I like theirs more. Anyway, so excited to see you watch the finale!

The costuming and set dressing is beyond spectacular. That dance was weird but strangely alluring. Joanna Lumley absolutely inhabits the role of Hester. And how the hell did I underestimate Steve Buscemi's role in everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
