Pacific Rim FULL LENGTH Movie Reaction

FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

Patrick Waldeck

It's never mentioned in the movie but the entire reason Stacker became a Jaeger pilot in the first place was to honor his sister Luna, who was a British fighter jet pilot. When the first attack on San Francisco happened, she volunteered to fight with the American air force and was killed trying to shoot a missile down its throat. I also really like how there are a few shots showcasing Japanese customs: Mako and Stacker bow to each other in greeting, there's a long shot of of her removing her shoes when she goes into the "dojo" to fight.

The thing about dinosaurs having two brains is a myth, it works as an easy way to get info to the audience across. The thing about the two brains is that I think there are some impressions in the bones that implies a large collection of nerves that people theorized might have acted like a second brain

Michael French

There is a second movie but it’s not done by Guillermo and it’s not considered as good but it does do some fun stuff that it might be worth watching for the channel

Loved this movie! Guillermo del Toro has said in interviews that he was raised on Kaiju films (Godzilla, Rodan, etc) and Mech anime. This movie is basically a homage to mecha anime and Japanese kaiju movies, filled with a range of all the tropes, tragic backstory, over the top side characters, the main character butting heads with an arrogant fellow pilot, etc. As someone who was also raised on Kaiju movies and anime. I could recommend some great ones! There are so many Kaiju films and macha animes out there. For Kaiju: Godzilla alone has over 30+ movies to choose from. And that's just the Toho Product, Japanese Films. Starting with Godzilla (1954) to Godzilla Minus One (which we already seen here. :) ). Personally, I love the ones from the Heisei Era (1984–1995). Then we got the others Toho Kaiju Films, like Rodan and Mothra. Who do show up in some Godzilla movies. We also have the Daiei Film Company's Gamera Series: Toho's main competitor in the kaiju space. In USA we have Legendary Pictures' Monsterverse, starting with the 2014 Godzilla. For Mech anime, a "fews" of the best. Mobile Suit Gundam (1979): The quintessential "real robot" series. It introduced the concept of mecha as mass-produced, complex war machines rather than invincible heroes. Its success spawned a massive, ongoing franchise. Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995): A landmark series that deconstructed the mecha genre. It used giant robots (Evas) as a framework to explore complex psychological trauma, philosophy, and religious symbolism, changing anime forever. Gundam Wing (1995): The first Gundam series to become a massive hit in the West. It popularized the "bishōnen" (beautiful young men) pilot archetype and featured memorable, powerful Gundams. The Vision of Escaflowne (1996): A highly acclaimed series that seamlessly blends mecha action with fantasy, romance, and political intrigue. A personal favorite. Zoids: Chaotic Century (1999): It follows a young boy named Van who discovers an Organoid named Zeke and partners with a Zoid (Mechs theme on animals) know as a Shield Liger. The story is set on the planet Zi and involves a war between the Helic Republic and the Guylos Empire. Another personal favorite. Full Metal Panic! (2002): A unique blend of high-stakes mecha military action and high-school romantic comedy, following a stoic, child-soldier mercenary who must protect a high school girl. Zoids: New Century Zero (2001): A standalone series that popularized Zoids in the West. It's a lighthearted action-comedy focused on the Blitz Team, a small group of Zoid warriors competing in the official Zoids Battle Commission tournaments. Another personal favorite. RahXephon (2002): Often compared to Neon Genesis Evangelion, this series features a young man who pilots a mysterious mecha to fight alien invaders, with a strong focus on music, art, and a complex, metaphysical plot. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007): The ultimate "super robot" anime. It's a story of rebellion, evolution, and fighting spirit that escalates to galactic, and then multiversal, proportions. Pure, unadulterated hype.

The whole movie is awesomely executed ridiculousness. At no point does any of it make real world sense. But it's fucking awesome anyway.

"Guillermo del Toro directing giant robots vs kaiju? I'll be there opening night." Watching this in the theater was a treat.

The Lore Merchant

Speaking of which, I hadn't seen this in a while. It was great to go back to it and remember how good it is. Solid cast, nicely paced... it's a really solid homage to the "giant robot" genre.

I am watching the movie with you now Angela, and I think you are slightly ahead by 2 to 4 seconds. You clearly had fun with the movie though. So I have no idea if you have watched the modern Godzilla movies, but you should check them out if you have not. I would watch them in release order. Movies: Godzilla (2014) Kong: Skull Island (2017) Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) Godzilla x Kong: Supernova (2027) TV Series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023–present) Animated TV Series Skull Island (2023)

Gotcha! I was surprised to hear that because I have NEVER seen that info in any museum I've been too 😅

funnylilgalreacts

I was being facetious 😂 Everyone said "stop there, don't watch the rest"

Jedi Lounger

I have it perfectly lined up with your watch window. But you seem to react a few seconds before something happens. Sometimes it is less obvious, other times it is very obvious.

Vexkun

Same when I watch it.

Vexkun

It's a lot like the 2nd Independence Day. It's a fun dumb movie that totally retcon and changes major plot points from the first movie. To point you wonder if the makers of the 2nd even watched the first one or just wanted to try and make money off the name.

This is my favourite movie of all time, not because I think it's the best, but because it's the film that inspired my career in Visual Effects, so it means a lot to me personally, and whenever I see it, even if (like this week) I'm having a rough time, it always puts a grin on my face. Del Toro is an absolute master of making a blockbuster that has no pretensions of being anything more, and instead just focuses on NAILING every aspect of the craft. The incredible music, the colours, the cgi that still holds up 13 years later, the set design, the creature design... Every part works and it just comes together in to the most stupid & dumb and ridiculous, brilliant, pure spectacle of all time. Love it. (Also that's Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello on guitar in the main theme!)

Akka

I remember going to the theater with my dad growing up and it was a truly amazing experience

Geoffrey T. Blackwell

I can't believe I didn't catch it until this watch but I LOVE that Gipsy Danger's AI is voiced by the same actor as GLaDOS from the Portal games.

Ejigantor

Definitely a fun movie. My only real complaint is that they had Raleigh and Mako drift together for the first time in a fully armed and operational giant robot. And now you need to add Kaiju #8 to your anime watchlist.

Lee Aguera

Okay am I the only one noticing drift de-sync with the reaction? Gal is about 2-3 seconds ahead of the displayed sync time. Is it just me? I've noticed in quiet a few reactions of late.

Lee Aguera

Movies, more than tv shows. Pacific Rim desyncs, Aliens desynced pretty frequently, Muppets Xmas desynced, Event Horizon I remember had some issues. Aliens I remember being the worst, in that if I left the reaction and movie play together, they desynced by a significant amount pretty quickly. I remember you reacting to Hudson's death a good while after he died. I remember having to pause the Aliens movie pretty frequently to sync the two.

funnylilgalreacts

I wonder if your speed is different than mine? No one said anything. I also have been watching special editions, but I do put that in the title that that’s what I watched.

Nathaniel Castle

The Glados voice for Gypsy Dangers AI always makes me smile (although knowing what I know would make me nervous to be in that mech!) Wish it had offered them cake

Nathan Jasper

I would like to recommend American Ultra. It takes the stoner comedy genre and flips it upside down. I think you'd enjoy it!

Merkavar

I was thinking the same thing, mainly at the start. She would react or mention something just before it came on screen. Made me thing the movie was out of sych so I recheck it, or that I am watchign a slightly different version.

Merkavar

dinosaurs being so large they must have had two brains is such 1890s nonsense belief

Merkavar

1:22:00 in the scene with the bunker, unless I am mistaken each time there was a loud noise of a monster breaking in, you would react like 1 sec before it. Argh!... Bang! It isnt enough to ruin the reaction in my opinion, atleast not with this movie. But it was noticeable at times. 1:36:00 at the eating scene

T

So glad you watched this! Pacific Rim is definitely one of my feel good movies. The story itself is pretty generic and predictable with plenty of tropes mixed in, however the movie doesn't pretend to be more than that. It's simply a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters with epic fights brought to life with stunning visuals/music. For this reason I can put this movie on anytime and have a great time watching it!

Centarius

Same desync happened with me during the movie, matched what was happening on her screen to mine and she was reacting to stuff sooner than it was on mine so I paused it a little so that her audio was synched to what was happening on my end.
