I love this movie. It is one of my favs. It is the classic rags to riches tale but told so well with humor, charm and heartfelt emotion. The acting and dialogue are on point. Every character is memorable. The soundtrack is fantastic. The movie just keeps you entertained from start to finish. And the ending is so satisfying with the villain getting his comeuppance and the hero getting happiness in the end.

Such a wonderful film. 100% historically accurate too. Yup, no anachronisms here.

Fun fact @18.49 The extras didn't understand English, and they cheered after the guy cheered cause they didn't know they where supposed to until he did. it wasn't scripted that way =P

Russ Tan

I love that the creatives of this movie just said Eff it to all the anachronisms and went for full fun in this. This is truly one of most enjoyable movies I've ever seen

Notes from a Knight's Tale fan: 1) The biggest note I have is that the soundtrack was very deliberately chosen. The folks behind the movie considered a more accurate soundtrack, but realised that modern audiences wouldn't have the same associations with that music as contemporary jousting audiences. The medieval music that sounds quaint and archaic to us, would have sounded like Queen to them, so they used modern music to inspire in the movie audience the same triumphant feelings that an actual medieval audience would have to their music. Those anachronisms serve a very specific purpose. 2) In brief defence of Jocelyn - I also don't like those sorts of games. In real life, communication is obviously the way to go. In the movie, her demand is a reference to a previous situation. She mentions in the first tournament that everyone but William/Ulrich has promised to win the tournament for her, and him not doing that is what interests her because it shows he's interested in her, rather than proving himself to her. When she demands he lose, it is right after he promises to win the tournament for her instead of giving her poetry. Not only has he just done the one thing she didn't want, he offered it as an alternative to the one thing that she DID want, suggesting to her that he's just as bad as all the other knights she's already turned down. We don't like the idea of people having to 'prove their love' in real life, but in this instance he literally needed to give proof that he was who she had thought he was, and not just another knight high on his own pride after all that. 3) A little thing that makes me happy: Kate agrees to help the gang in exchange for getting her to Paris. They get her to Paris, and she continues with them to London. 4) Geoffrey Chaucer is one of the most important figures in English literary history. Comparable to Shakespeare, in my opinion. His Canterbury Tales also include tales like the Summoner's Tale and the Pardoner's Tale. Neither the Summoner or Pardoner get off great, and so when Chaucer threatens them after his gambling debt to them is paid off, that's what it's referring to. Chaucer is also a great real-world example of one of the things the movie does great. All that stuff I already mentioned about how medieval audiences would have felt about their music the way we do about ours? How medieval jousting crowds act the same as modern football crowds? Chaucer's writing is held up as this fancy classic literature, only highfalutin academic sorts read it and your average joe's never opened one of his books, right? Chaucer has a whole tale in the Canterbury Tales about a fella who is in love with a married woman, but she's already having an affair with someone else. When the fella comes to her window begging for a kiss, she tells him to close his eyes, then presents her ass. Outraged by being tricked into kissing her 'nether ye' (nether eye) he decides to get revenge by grabbing a hot poker from the blacksmith's and asking for another kiss. Her boyfriend then sticks his ass out the window and farts in his face in order to be in on the joke, and gets smote in the 'towte' for the pleasure. This tale, the Miller's Tale, also uses the word 'queynte' as a pun, meaning both clever, but also the married woman's downstairs, being one of the etymological roots of a modern four-letter word beginning with C. Shakespeare also makes this same pun, when describes things as 'quaint'. Classic writers are just as potty-mouthed as we are, and I love that.

The equestrian stunt team that did the jousting scenes for this is a group called The Devil’s Horsemen - they would later go on to do a great deal of work on Game of Thrones and its spin-offs. The “cock-a-doodle once - I deny thee” story is referring to a biblical tale in which at the Last Supper, Jesus prophesied that Peter would deny being associated with him three times before the cockerel crowed the next morning. Peter insisted that he wound not do so but after Jesus was arrested it played out as predicted.

I remember watching this in theaters and totally loving it. I still to this day say "I will fong you" and "You have been weighed, you have measured, and you absolutely have been found wanting". 😆

Love this movie. Heath was such a talent.

ElToroNica

The story was of saint peter denying Jesus three times, each time he denied Jesus the rooster crowed! Wow, things I remembered from mass!

Rufus Sewell is absolutely worth watching in Dark City (1998)
