Saw it in theaters and haven't seen it since because I disliked it so much.

Forodrim

have you seen "enemy mine"? I would love to see your reaction to it.

I kind of like the movie, it's not a "good" Alien movie, but still decently entertaining. I really liked the group dynamic, you can see a kind of proto-Firefly crew in them. I always wondered how Firefly would have turned out, if Ron Perlman had been cast as Jane. Oh, and you need to see more stuff with Brad Dourif, he always plays such weird roles.

Moricant

Obligatory “Sigourney Weaver insisted on trying to make the basketball shot, succeeded, and they had to cut the take short as Ron Perlman was so surprised that he broke character and swore loudly in celebration” comment. This one seems to get flak for the slightly goofy tone but if you are familiar with some ofJean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro’s previous work they are being quite restrained here. I can’t say that I was that enthused by the alien/human hybrid aspect though.

James Miller

Proof that even Joss Whedon can write a turd.

Moricant

Yes, Brad Dourif played Grima Wormtongue in LotR. He is a wonderfully gifted character actor who will also eventually appear in B5.

Moricant

Michael Wincott you might know from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (“Why a spoon, cousin?”) or The Crow (“Ohhh, that’s gotta hurt”).

This is actually one of my favorite Alien movies.

D Gyre

So I DO like this movie, but I agree the execution did not live up to the potential. I still think its a 'good' alien movie, but then I think ALL the alien movies, even the new ones, are 'good' It's definitely not better than the first 3. This was more action adventure with a crew, almost like a mirror universe firefly crew, and I think if they'd toned down "creepy" Ripley just a little bit, and spent more time with the crew of the Betty, it would have been much better. The way I understood the Christie scene is that he knows Vriess can't hang on, so he sacrifices himself to save Vriess more than giving up because of the acid. Now why he can't manage to get the alien off his foot or recover enough to at least half help climb, since he can clearly cut his bindings, I don't know. So it doesn't fully make sense either way, but I always took as a sacrifice to save Vriess.

I always liked this more than 3 as a kid. As an adult now, I can definitely see its flaws. But I never liked the setting or the tone of 3 that much. I hope you make your way through the rest of the Alien franchise! You still have Prometheus and Covenant (which are prequels to Alien 1, to be watched in that order) and Romulus (which is the most recent entry. its utterly fantastic and falls between Alien and Aliens. Also, there are the Alien vs Predator movies. The first one is a fun standalone popcorn flick, but the second one is skippable. Also, while I haven't watched it yet, apparently the Alien: Earth show is pretty good and is set between Covenant and Alien 1.

James Fleischman

I highly recommend watching La cité des enfants perdus (1995) (The City of Lost Children) directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro and starring Ron Perlman and Dominique Pinon. Not necessarily for the channel though - it's best watching in French and not the English dub.

David Traynier

I've always found the death of the alien at the end gratuitous and sadistic.
