I don't have too much to say that hasn't already been said, so I'll leave some trivia. Sunrise, the animation studio that made Cowboy Bebop, are most well known for their contributions to the Mecha genre of anime, especially the Gundam franchise. If you notice, mechanical parts and animation in CB are extremely detailed and fluid. Just part of the studio's forte. Also, the little mascot in the Sunrise logo is called "Haru", and was first featured in "Mobile Suit Gundam" from 1979.

Sorcerer Rumburak

Ein seems to be the smartest life form on the ship - and none of the crew realizes it. 😉

I forgot this episode was pretty good, the homage to Bruce Lee quotes was real nice touch, I had totally forgotten about it all.

What I like about this episode is that his treatment of Rocco and Stella give our first glimpse that there's more to Spike than simply being a cynical badass. This universe doesn't give many happy endings (as you're seeing,) so getting just that little bit of sensitivity from him, when it doesn't benefit him at all gives him depth that he doesn't readily show.

This episode always guts me. Stella said that Rocco hangs out with the wrong crowd, and that may have cut a bit close to home for Spike. He is a bounty hunter, after all, and he knew that Rocco was just trying to do the right thing, even if he had to put himself in danger. So I think he's being absolutely genuine in the scene where he's trying to keep Rocco alive--not because he's worth a bounty, but because Spike sees a naive version of himself that might have been (under different circumstances). All of which makes Rocco's last words perfectly poignant. Ugh!
