The reason why Franklin probably didn't seem to be reacting to the events of the prior episode is because that episode was filmed fifth. This episode was a good look into Garibaldi behaviour, especially after introducing Lise earlier in the season.

On your initial comments about 'Believers'... People often give Dr. Franklin a hard time because of his arrogant decision, and because he didn't take into account clear signs by the parents that some kind of tragedy would happen if he performed the surgery. Me, I'm a bit more lenient. Dr. Franklin chose to believe that parental love would prevent them from going so far; that the little boy's Tatya and Anya couldn't really be so deep into their own belief system to do that. True, there are examples of parents doing even worse things to their children for all kinds of reasons, some even religious. But I don't feel like guiltying Dr. Franklin too much because of that. He was the one who chose to believe love was enough. I must say this world would be a little better if more people believed that love is enough. He paid dearly for his belief. The final scene with him looking at that piece of industrial goo while sighing and just feeling the tragicity of it all, how doing the right thing isn't always the right thing to do... will stay with me forever.

I’m with you on this. Also, a lot of people overlook the fact that the parents actually murder their own child, like it’s some kind of collateral damage. They willingly murdered their own child. At least in my universe there is *no* justification for this ever, religious or otherwise. I have to say «Believers» is a fantastic episode because no two people will react to it completely the same way, and some people will extract the completely opposite messages from it.

A few issues with your reasoning. Defonition of Murder is the unlawful killing of one human being by another person without a legal excuse or justification, and it is usually done with a guilty state of mind known as malice aforethought. 1. This is a human crime... do these aliens have the same interpretation or even same beliefs about justice? 2. If they don't, what gives the you the right enforce your justice on another person or group? 3. Do you believe in Freedom of Religion? And if so, are there limitations and who decides what those are and when they apply?

I guess this depends on whether you're asking my opinion--what freedom of religion SHOULD be--or the world's--what our laws SAY about freedom of religion. I can only describe the former, and will leave the latter to lawyers. 1. What is it that Shaal Mayan said? "All sentient beings are defined by their capacity and their need for love", right? That sounds OK to me. And if love is a constructive force that attempts to preserve all life, then it is not compatible with having to allow people to die from preventable diseases. That's not love, that's culture. Which is OK. Personally, I believe we have to put limits there (if a certain people, say the Dilgar or worse, decided that their culture, their religion, or even their idea of love was to kill as many other sentient beings as possible, we'd have to at least avoid these people, and if we can't, then limit their religious practices when they are among us, in our colonies). For me, killing a child falls on the 'wrong' side of this limitation. You're free to disagree, of course. But if I were responsible for what species interact with what species, the acceptance of infant killing would be one of the reasons I'd consider to recommend avoiding them. I would do the same with the Arnassians if they insist on killing their mate after sex. I don't like the practice, and I agree with Sinclair that we should avoid flirting with them, given the circumstances. 2. The right of living in a common space. If we do--if we share quarters, administration, a common Zócalo, and other similar things--then I DO have the right to demand that a solution be found for that. Let's say, I'm OK with the Centauri using the G'Kuan-Eth simply to extract pleasure from it and not paying it the respect the Narn do--on their planets. If we live together on a station, then we have to find some way to avoid problems and frictions there. If the Brakiri need to own the space where their Day of the Dead will happen, so be it in a symbolic way--but not the way they probably would do it on Brakir. In other words: WHAT GIVES ME (AND THEM) THE RIGHT IS THAT WE'RE ALL LIVING TOGETHER ON BABYLON 5. 3. I do. I don't believe, however, in the right of religions to impose their beliefs, or the consequences of their beliefs, on me (I'm anti-Missionary, for instance), nor do I believe that they have the right to inconvenience me or my goals because of their beliefs or their consequences. I'm OK with Christians and Satanists living next door, but I'm NOT ok with their rituals being so loud that I can't sleep at night after a hard day's work. Would you disagree?
