I am so glad the show took the time to show us where Ted is, to let the decision to go back be a tough one, all of it. Any anxiety I had about the quality is gone. It's still perfection.

I'm so happy to see Ted, Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins again. I need these smiles.

I came back to watch Ted Lasso with Angela. I thought it would be special and it was. I held a great deal of trepidation about ANYTHING beyond Season 3's perfect resolution to a perfect three acts... but I was wrong and it only took the three pairs of legs stepping out of the SUV for me to be convinced that any more Ted Lasso is the BEST possible thing. For me, the three high points were truly astonishing. First of all, Higgins in the museum learning about the Negro Leagues and finding a parallel in England's women's futball history, was incredibly touching. Next was Ted retrieving the box and walking the hall of memories of his dad. And last of course, was Ted's texting with Henry who was encouraging his father to go back to London. It was all there. The magic of Ted Lasso did have life past the original three acts. And I'm delighted I was here with Angela, to experience it.

I love the attention to detail this show has. Like how the book Ted picked up from the top of the box of stuff is the one his dad stayed up all night reading in the story he told Doctor Sharon. "How many cities are in this city" calling back to "How many countries are in this country?" was a nice bit of symmetry.

This was so good to watch again…you know what? I LOVED that this show did what so many reboots don’t do…it had our protagonist have to figure out why we’re back after there was such a perfect ending, he’s struggling with why he should come back, and we get to see him struggle with it, and come to the right decision. There’s also so many callbacks and subtle details. The dartboard in Ted’s childhood room went almost unnoticed. How many cities are in this city? The subtle jokes about what animals don’t forget (and Ted forgetting). Leslie exploring the Negro League museum with a curator the way Ted did in Amsterdam at the Van Gogh museum. Even callbacks within the episode, as when Ted and Michelle are coming out of the school, and Ted says a change of scenery would be good for the little guy (commenting on him graduating)…and Henry himself tells did via text “I think a change of scenery would be good.” But my favorite moment of symbolism was coming to Ted’s office. It’s filled to the brim with memorabilia throughout the years. But when he sat at his desk…all the Kansas memorabilia was on the wall behind him. All the Richmond stuff sat in front of him. We knew what was behind him, and where he was going. Barbecue sauce. 🎯

Also, for women’s sports…Ang, sorry, but your Aces are going down this year. The Valks are coming for them! I’m afraid there isn’t a Las Vegas team yet…but you’re welcome to root for Bay FC! And…the Professional Women’s Baseball League began play this month, the first women’s league in the sport since the 1940’s. Each of the four teams is named for a historic woman in their City. The Boston Hunters, the New York Heights, the LA Queens…but I think San Francisco got the best: The San Francisco Firebells. It’s named for Lillie Hitchcock Coit. She came to San Francisco during the gold rush days, and for whatever reason, as a young girl, came to idolize the city’s firefighters. For one local volunteer engine company, she saw them struggling on the street trying to get to a fire with their hand drawn carriage, and encouraged strangers to help get the carriage to the fire. She grew up as an honorary member of the fire department, celebrating them in parades, helping fundraise for the volunteers, and generally rejecting social norms for little girls. She was sent to Europe by her parents as she got into her teens, where she was reportedly a regular at Napolean III’s royal court in Paris, but it didn’t work. She came back to San Francisco a worldly woman, wearing pants, partying with the men, playing poker in back rooms with the barons who built the west’s railroads, and defying every gender standard there was. When she passed away in her 80’s, she left a huge percentage of her family fortune to the city, to beautify it and build a memorial to the firefighters she loved. Part of it went to build a tower on Telegraph Hill, where that first fire she helped defeat was, a monument that still bears her name. (The money also went to memorial to the volunteer firefighters at a nearby park.). The Firebells name is a tribute to the call she always answered. It’s also a kick-ass logo. Just wanted to brag. Everyone watches women’s sports. ☺️

Thunder Gong is Jason and Brendan's charity show they do every year. A play on words was when Colin was in Amsterdam in season 3 and went into the gay bar and they told him Thunder Dong was the performer for the night.

I was cautiously optimistic about the fourth season but after this first episode I’m excited and very much looking forward to the next episode. Also, you really should watch Casablanca at some point, it’s a great film that deserves its place in cinematic history.

I lived in Kansas City area for eight years. This was such a love letter to the city and made me homesick for the city quite a bit. I played in the music hall they showed on screen. I've walked on the streets in the Plaza....been to those museums. Flown out of the downtown airport the one time I flew a charter to St. Louis. This was so nice to see. I needed this and the gang again.
