Finally! One of my favorite episodes from Season 1. Can't wait to watch it this evening

Dinker

Oh, haven't watched but I can imagine how this will go. 😁

Stephen Collette

Just a comment on the B5 world....not a spoiler as this either has been shown, mentioned or is clearly laid out without giving anything away. Jump Gates - You'll notice that they are blue or yellow when they activate. This shows when a ship is coming back from hyperspace, or leaving normal space going to hyperspace. I recall that JMS mentioned at the time the color difference has to do with the red-shift effect. Very old technology that predates all the races. They all build new ones now but it is tough & pricy Hyperspace - ships 'jump' into it and traveling there move much faster/further than normal space.

Top tier rules-lawyering by Sinclair in this episode. I’m sure you can guess whom the Rush Act was named for.

Johannes Güth

I am so jealous, I wish I could watch the whole show for the first time again. You have such an amazing saga right in front of you... and you do it exactly right. Enjoy every episode and don´t do 2 epsiodes a week. Hold on it, as long as you can until ... "Sleeping in light"

I was a railroad conductor for 32 years and am now disabled and retired. Belonging to the United Transportation Union. This episode is relatable. We cannot go on strike under the Railway Labor Act, as it would affect the Nation's supply chain. I really enjoy your reactions, and I'm on your side on lots of your beliefs. Thanks.

James Fleischman

We are sorely overdue for some serious industrial action and unrepentant union action. It heartens me that strike culture in still extremely strong in France.

A great episode, one of those that makes B5 feel like a real and lived-in universe. Also, another one that really tips JMS’ hand in terms of his politics.

Love your reactions Angela! You clearly see when things are 🎶🎵Dum-dum-dum-dum-DUMB! 🎵🎶 🤘😎🎸

Roy Graham

Your theories are magnificent. One of the best things about this rewatch. Can't wait for the discussion after you get your answer! So delicious. I love O'Hare's performance in this one. Hair/Make-up did a great job too. You can feel his exasperation. God there's so much good stuff ahead of you. You're gonna have a blast!

Jerry Doyle was 6'3", so yes, quite tall

Texas Anla'Shok

There are many wonderful Londo/G'Kar moments to come, but this one remains my absolute favorite: "WHAT?" "Yoo-hoo! Hahahahahaha!" "Oh, why does the Universe hate me so?"

A few years ago I began a transition from working for others to working for myself, and now I'm helping manage a small business with six people, of whom four are on the payroll (I'm not one of them). Every time the issue of pay comes up, I think of this episode and the lessons it teaches.

TricksterDaemon

What the world be like if schools and workers had unlimited money and the military had to hold bake sales. The US government would rather bomb brown-skinned people in poor countries on the other side of the world than spend money taking care of their own people.

Wild_Lee_Coyote

One of the things that can get overlooked is that there are many in Earth Central that want to see Babylon 5 fail. Budgets are one of the ways they can do this. Military force by way of the Rush Act is another. Babylon 5 is quasi independent and therefore is often the focus of people who don’t like things they can’t control directly.

For some reason, whenever Angela-or anyone else for that matter-brings up the previous Babylon Stations, I always find myself wanting to paraphrase the guy from Monty Python's Holy Grail. "Other races said we were mad to build a space station in neutral territory, but we built it all the same, just to show 'em....and it collapsed. So we built a second one, and it blew up. So we built a third one, and that one also blew up. So then we built a fourth one, and that one vanished mysteriously, without a trace. But the fifth one stayed up!

Sergio Meira

Have you heard that Babylon 5 fans have this theory that, in-universe, the Rush Act is so named in honor of Rush Limbaugh? ...

Marcus Hicks

Oh but you see, for a lot of Americans, that latter option amounts to......."COMMUNISM!" 🤪

Marcus Hicks

Plus, all that contact with alien governments probably makes certain members of the EA Senate very leery too.

James Davis-Mann

This is one of my favourite non arc stories from season 1. Might help i had a major crush on miss connally

Garrick Smalley

Loved this one. There was James Connolly born in Ireland who grew into a trade union leader and feminist. He helped found the Industrial Workers of the World. He was always pushing for equality of employment and pay for women. “It was because women workers had no vote that they had not the safeguards even of the laws passed for their protection because these were ignored. They had women working for wages on which a man could not keep a dog.” He was execute by the British on May 12, 1916. I do not know how much JMS knew about this Connolly when he gave his union leader the Connolly name but I don't think it was coincidence.

Another great episode! With a great feel good ending to it! B5 is so good!

Peter Powis

reminded me of Jodie Foster a little

That's so cool! Love that you have learned wisdom from this episode! So many will watch this episode and not learn.
