Sorry about getting this up a little later today, I scheduled it for 5 PM instead of 5 AM. It seems like a thing I do quite often 😅

Very excited to be moving forward with Castlevania this week. Those episodes go by too quickly. It’s a complete understatement to say I’m in love with that world.

People have raved about season 9 of Doctor Who and I can see why! I rarely ever watch two parter on the same day and I definitely needed to watch the next episode immediately after!

I’m finally getting back to movies and Xander has been chomping at the bit for me to do Obsession! I too have been wanting to watch it, I’m glad to finally see what all the hype is about. It will be edited down and posted at a later time, as the one posted this Saturday will just be the watch along. As usual, you do need your own copy.

Of course I’m eager for all of the other episodes of the show shows that I’m watching to come out, but I really can’t wait to see where Ted Lasso goes to finish up this season in the next couple episodes. It feels like a show that we never left, but it’s all brand new at the same time. I’m absolutely loving season 4.

I hope everyone has a great week and we have lots of stuff to talk about in the comments and on Discord!

Aw I'm so glad you're enjoying Doctor Who series 9. It is honestly one of my favourites alongside series 4. There are so many great episodes this series that I genuinely wish I had a Tardis of my own to skip ahead to when you've finished this series so I can binge watch all your series 9 reactions back-to-back.

Love that Castlevania made the cut. Its such a good show! You're gonna love the characters

Paulo

Obsession, It’s recent movie right?

Nathan Jasper

Oooh Obsession, decent movie, that'll be interesting

Rach

You have no idea how happy it makes me that you made it through the DW series 8 wobble

It’s funny looking back on it now how miserable I was during that season. By the time I got to episode four of season nine I was thinking to myself “Peter Capaldi feels like he’s always been the Doctor…“ He was just so unpalatable for me in season eight.

Rach

A lot of people quit at that point. I understand from an artistic perspective why Moffat did it, but from a marketing perspective it was a really risky move

Nathan Jasper

Came out earlier this year I believe!

Paulo

Oh it’s the scary one right? No thank you.

Thing is, Angela, Capaldi's first season, in a way, mirrors Hartnell's. This makes sense when you recall that this new life cycle was initiated by the Time Lords, those "dusty senators" who treated the Doctor in times past as a cosmic chesspiece. They project their own image out of aged severity into the universe and the Doctor's character initially is a reflection of that. He had two sides fighting within. It was a brave decision to portray him this way. I'm glad you stayed with it. We had to know that the core of the Doctor, as we have come to know him, is still there. He just needed to fight his way out of the imprisoning integument that the Time Lords placed around him. Maybe the Scots accent played a role in his breaking free. Scottishness is no stranger when it comes to Doctor Who. For a start, Amy, the bestest friend of Eleven and the time that he had the closest he's had to a family. She was probably one of his spirit guides.

I really like this recent schedule of Doctor Whuesdays - I hope it sticks!

If i started with Hartnell I might have never finished. If someone doesn't let me see what makes them tick or have a hint of personality, I have a hard time connecting and might not stick it out.

There is a line from the first Doctor and it is a very valuable one and after he has learnt a valuable lesson of trust in his new found companions. "As we learn about each other, so we learn about ourselves." The line was written for The Doctor by script editor, David Whitaker in a filler two-parter. It's a bit of a thriller, only the regular cast and the only set is the TARDIS because they had to keep within budget - as you saw Verity get roasted for in Adventures In Space and Time - and contains some controversial scenes, but it is also a very important serial. I wish you could see it. It is actually the third serial back in early 1964. None of the scenes therein are shown in Adventures In Space and Time. The alternative title for this serial was 'Inside The Spaceship' but they went for a far more dramatic title, 'The Edge Of Destruction'. Sadly, the following serial is missing. Something about Hartnell. He was a great fan of Charlie Chaplin and was quite adept at physical comedy. The typecasting saddened him. William Hartnell was my first Doctor.

I'm watching Hartnell episodes now. I have to say that while his Doctor is a starter one, so, most of his open-heartedness or pathos aren't presented , he is still a very much strong character in his own right, who has a strong story arc, growing from someone who kidnap a pair of school teachers because he was afraid of them learning his secret, and thinking about bashing someone's skull in because they were antagonistical towards him, into a warm (but strict) person almost immediately in his second-third story. So, unlike 12th, who had his "gotcha" moment to build up throughout his first season, 1st Doctor is actually a fast learner, taking more and more positive qualities from his companions. He is a selfless, brave , witty and sometimes mischievous old man, who is going into extreme grandfather pampering mode every now and then. I'd even say that he is more like 9th Doctor right now.

Knowing you've already seen the 2nd part makes it okay for me to say this; The 'roars' that you heard from the creature were actually done by Corey Taylor, lead singer of Slipknot. He's a huge Who fan and tere's a video on YT of him geeking out being inside the Tardis set

funnylilgalreacts

it will switch back to Wednesday after Ted Lasso is done Oct 9th. It either that or take Wednesdays off, which might be enticing

Have you seen Jess's reaction to 'Tales Of The TARDIS: The Time Meddler' on her channel Sesskasays? It does however involve later companions of the First Doctor and, naturally enough, they're a lot older! Both left before the end of Hartnell's era. The concept is that they appear in a Memory TARDIS. They are quite short videos. Jess got quite emotional as Hartnell's Doctor is one of her favourites.

I’ve been seeing a lot of hate online for the new season of Ted Lasso. And I just. Don’t. Get it.

MaxValPlatt

Low level hope that we could get two Castlevania reactions in a week. Soon, Lasso ends in October, and Bebop would end November - ish....
