Alec Zrike

And away we go... Also: ZATHRAS!

Mark Ten

Sinclair, the right man for the job... Oh boy! Zathras, my favorite character.

MaxValPlatt

Are you sure that you talking about Zathras? Maybe you meant Zathras? Surely not Zathras, he isn't as cool as Zathras was :)

Mark Ten

Maybe its why Zathras can never have anything nice

Gavin Kinsey

I find it interesting that B4 is a different design than B5. Makes you wonder if all of them were unique? Why would they redesign it rather than use the same blueprints they had from the previous one? I mean, you would probably have some tweaks from issues you found building the earlier ones, but a completely different layout? Just one of those random thoughts that pop into my head.

Jeff

Considering that Babylon 1, 2, 3, & 4 all had ... survivability issues, I'm not sure they really wanted to use the same blueprint.

omnipaul

In an earlier reaction, you mentioned something about "everyone puts on their pants the same way." I can now confidently say, "No. No we don't."

MaxValPlatt

I think that it is nice to know that even in the future (probably? Based on his appearance) Old Man Jeff is still a valiant paragon of good that some people (at least Zathras) are willing to live and die for him. And it is a nice foreshadowing that Zathras was very happy to see Jeff (who will be the One) but then was slightly disappointed because he is still Midage Jeff, not "the One"

dean worrall

I've been thinking on the "going to the sea" thing...I think maybe the Minbari evolved from some sort of shellfish.. hence the head boney protrusions..

dean worrall

the Na'arn evolved from some type of gecko type creature ( the spots ), and the Centauri from something like a lion ( the manes )

Stephen Collette

Side note after you got to the end. The Babylon stations were built mainly with Earth and Mimbari money. The three others on the council (Narn, Centauri, Vorlon) also contributed significantly. It's hinted at and mentioned in passing in the pilot and a couple early episodes, but not really called out explicitly. JMS confirmed all this early on and it's not a plot-relevant spoiler so I thought I'd share.

Baulderstone

I heard an answer from JMS somewhere over the years. The B5 design is a cheaper version. The Senate was running out of patience with paying for Babylon stations, so compromises needed to be made.

James Fleischman

Well the Minbari Capital ships look like a Sunfish mated with a Lionfish

Bubba Fett

The import questions in the universe, sock sock shoe shoe or sock shoe sock shoe 🤔

Paul Hess

I think they always do that for big and expensive projects. For instance, I believe aircraft carriers, the five space shuttles, and huge skyscrapers are all always designed, or at least modified, each time they build a new one. Also, I think Baulderstone is on point that, after losing so much on the very top of the line before, politics forced it to be cheaper next time.

James Fleischman

What is it that makes the humans so special? What is it that draws you to them? They fight. They argue. They are ruled by passions and fears. Yes, and that is their strength. They do not seek conformity. They do not surrender. Out of their differences comes symmetry their unique capacity to fight against impossible odds. Hurt them, and they only come back stronger. The passions we deplore have taken them to their place in the stars and will propel them to a great destiny. Their only weakness is that they do not recognize their own greatness. They forget that they have come to this place through two million years of evolution struggle and blood. They are better than they think and nobler than they know. They carry within them the capacity to walk among the stars like giants. They are the future and we have much to learn from them.

Harry S

The Navy can't build a ship today without making changes while they are building the ship; and they have other races involved in B5. Maybe the Centauri wanted a bigger casino.

Harry S

Great Episode, thanks Angela! At the beginning of B5 you said B4 was off with the hole in Sinclair's mind, you were right! The commander of B4 was doing construction so he was likely an engineer of some kind.

Kieran Elliott

The great thing about rewatching after this much time is that I remember a lot of key details, but don't remember a lot of episode to episode details, so I feel just as surprised as a newbie sometimes.

Texas Anla'Shok

This was the episode that really made me sit up and pay attention.

Joseph Bayley

Love this episode. So many juicy moments its hard to remember there are still 2 more episodes for this season. buckle up!! :D

Mark Ten

So many choices. Like Londo, I leave the final decision to my servants

Nathanael Fuller (Polygon Wizard)

Quick note: Despite what the post says, Angela did not watch this specific episode on Amazon Prime. The Amazon Prime version of this episode (and a few other streaming services too) is missing the final 3-4 minutes of the episode. For this episode only, Angela watched the for purchase 1x20 episode from YouTube.

Garrick Smalley

I knew you would love this episode. I am sorry we don't get to open the chrysalis today. And Zathras!

Marcus Hicks

....and now Angela gets to feel rightly chuffed at having correctly guessed the fate of Babylon 4. Well done, Angela! 🙂

As a young-teen watching this for the first time, this was definitely an episode that sparked a lot of "whoa" and "how is this all going to work out?" for me. As someone watching now for the first time, it must be comforting for you to know that yes the series does continue on and answer the questions this episode raised. But now to answer a few side topics that aren't plot relevant. From JMS: * "B5 is smaller than B4 because they sunk most of their budget into B4; on B5 they had to get outside funding, and scrimped. " * "B1-B4 were located in roughly the same sector, with B4 using some of the materials from 1-3 leftover. B5 was constructed about 3 hours (traveling time in real-space) from the location of B4. " * "No commander had yet been assigned to Babylon 4. One Major Krantz had been assigned to oversee the final stages of construction, and was on board -- along with about 1300 others in the construction crew -- when the station vanished. The station had only been on- line 24 hours, and the discussions of a commanding officer had just begun when it disappeared."

Tranquil_Gnome

The future has taken root in the present! . . . Merlin, Excalibur (1981)

R.I.P. Tim Choate. "In Valen's name".

TalynOne

fyi, the official Babylon 5 YouTube channel has been uploading full episodes in order, they're now around Season 2 right now. The version of this episode they have is the full one with the missing scene if others want access to it for free.

TalynOne

Minor spoiler: The purpose of the tri-luminary is to determine if someone fastens or zips first.

Wild_Lee_Coyote

With the talk of a Babylon 5 reboot, I keep looking at Babylon 4 and wondering why it isn’t getting a 4 season series. It’s the perfect series without trying to redo anything.

Wild_Lee_Coyote

Babylon 5 is the central section of Babylon 4. This gives you an idea on how big Babylon 4 was.

Nathaniel Castle

Is there a reason the full video with the extra part is not available in the united kingdom?

John

Delenn and the Minbari apparently see something in Sinclair from their interrogation of him. Imagine how different things might have been if they had grabbed some asshole instead of Jeff.

John

The missing scene on the Amazon Prime version was everything ever Garibaldi and Sinclair left B4. The whole scene with Delenn being given the triluminary isn't there. That seemed like a significant moment, wouldn't you think?

John

Not just running out of patience, but running out of money. They lost 4 massive space stations. B5 is a scaled down version due to budget constraints.

John

Angela, "Well, where the f*** do we go from here?" Yeah, you'll probably say that again, from time to time. And yes, insanity is the normal reaction to the first viewing of Babylon Squared. It blew my mind and I couldn't just re-watch it to catch what I missed. You lost your noodle on B4. It went wherever B4 went.

Roy Graham

Thankfully the YouTube copy is excellent. JMS is directly involved with the YT channel; even did a little intro vid when it launched. So far they're posting high quality copies. All us old fans are chuffed to bits to know it's gaining new fans! I utterly adore the little human moments in this show. Just a crew of buddies screwing with each other. Oh man I've been waiting for the look on your face for the B4 reveal. Did NOT disappoint. Where do we go? Many strange and wonderous places, my friend.

James Davis-Mann

Point of interest, the spacesuit used is the same as in 2001

ZATHRAS!!! Also, Mira Furlan was amazing. RIP. (and yeah, we really, really, REALLY can't talk about any of this.)
