So I've been a fan of the series since I was a kid, I was 7 when this came out and even dressed up as Freddie for Halloween when I was in 5th grade. So here are some observations, tidbits & light trivia about the movie and franchise. 1. Was Craven only directed the first one and a New Nightmare, but also wrote and produced the 3rd movie, IMHO those are also by far the best movies in the franchise. 2. You asked about the crucifix. In the nursery rhyme 5,6 grab a crucifix 3. Heather Lagenkamp (Nancy) was in 3 of the movies. this movie, the 3rd movie and she played herself in A New Nightmare. 4. Nancy says the line when in her room with Glen "I look 20" The movie was released a few months after the actress turned 20 in real life. 5. In the franchise lore it is established that the reason Freddie goes through the whole process of terrorizing them rather than just simply killing them is that he gains strength and power through their torment. 6. Regarding the ending and the ambiguity of if are they still in a dream or not. This was a Studio dictate to help set up future sequels. 7. Robert Englund who plays Freddie once related a story about him getting spooked by Freddie. Apparently one time before removing his make-up he fell asleep in his makeup chair during the production of one of the movies. He woke up and first thing that happened was he looked in the mirror and well...

In case if you'd be willing to continue watching this movie series, I'd say that 2nd movie went in the different direction and worse than a third one, so, cut it some slack. After that, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors was introducing a slightly revamped Freddy - cynical, having a very dark sense of humor and quite inventive in his torturing. First movie and New Nightmare were using dark and ominous "less talk, more action" Freddy, and while adding some gravitas to the villain, I think that, ultimately, Freddy is far more entertaining in 3rd movie ) P.S. And franchise has knack for casting various actors who'd have a prominent career. Third one has a very young Patricia Arquette and Laurence Fishburne )

I find it really weird there is a uncut version and they still dont show her getting Freddies hat!. I never found this film particularly scary but always loved the practical effects.

His new movie Ebenezer looks like will pay homage to his famous death scene
