2026-10-14 20:00 Both Osgood's needed the inhaler, but there was only one so they kept taking it from each other. Loved "Invasion of the Blobby Snatchers"
2026-10-14 14:09 Welcome to "Invasion of the Blobby Snatchers" - Both Osgood's needed the inhaler, but there was only one so they kept taking it from each other. In that episode you know which is the human vs Zygon Osgood based on paying attention to who had the inhaler last. In fact when the Zygon copies Osgood, it says that she hates copying someone who has a "defect" (it's word, not mine!). Rude! - The thing that confuses me is how there are millions of Zygons in the UK that took on the identity of humans who already exist, have jobs & homes, collect benefits without someone discovering. "Hey, there's someone next door who looks EXACTLY like me, stealing my mail and using my health benefits!" If the population grows from 70 to 90 million with 20 million identical duplicates, someone would notice!

I watched it yesterday, I thought you were going to surprise us with part 2 today doh. This is a great two parter lovely to see Osgood back again and evil Clara is just fantastic.

I've just assumed that because of various invasions the UK population is less than in reality and the Zygons may just have taken on those that have dies/gone missing.

Jade Ellis

Can't wait for the next episode. also Clara's look in this story is amazing.

Your comments about being mad that people only thought you didn’t like Capaldi because he was old made me think of the conversation between Madame Vastra and Clara in Deep Breath when she was having trouble reconciling with the fact that he had regenerated and Vastra insinuating that it was because he wasn’t young and pretty anymore. I’ve always loved Clara’s response to that, and I loved yours here.

Lol... well, that would also explain why no one ever seems to remember remember Cybermen, Dalek & Slitheen invasions.

Glad you like the 2 parter stories. most of the early Who series were just one or two stories per season spread across the whole thing..

Just had to check but the town in Turmezistan is also the town of Christmas. I thought the church felt familiar re watching this.

Evil Clara is such fun. Jenna must have had a blast filming this.

I have a head canon that most of cases where people could find their look-alikes in different parts of the world are cases of Zygons copying someone's appearance and then moving abroad )

Must be a lot of forged passports. Don't tell anyone

i was thinking the exact same thing!

I wanted to mention, the line mentioning a previous Zygon invasion also has Kate Stewart say something like "in the 70s, 80s". This isn't because it spanned two decades. Rather it's a reference to the "Dating Protocol." See, when the Third Doctor's adventures with UNIT were originally broadcast, it was the 70s in real life. However the episodes were written with it taking place in the not too distant future (next Sunday A.D.). So they were at that point canonically set in the 80s. Some time later, during future Doctors' runs, the writers forgot all of this, and accidentally started claiming and sometimes depicting the Third Doctor's adventures with UNIT as having happened in the 70s. This created a continuity snarl that to this day hasn't been resolved. Future Doctor Who stories however would lampshade this gaff. In particular in the 50th Anniversary Special The Doctor of the Doctor, Kate Stewart notes that there's precedent for there being three Doctors interacting. (A nod to the Third Doctor story The Three Doctors, which featured the first two Doctors and was also the show's 10th Anniversary Special.) She then tells I wanna say Osgood? to pull files from that time, and says something to the effect of checking files from "70s or 80s, depending on the Dating Protocol." And I don't totally know what that means, other than maybe time travel shenanigans corrupted history during that period. But it's how the show has chosen to deal with that continuity snarl.

The age along with the crankiness did help to throw off a lot of viewers at the time, though. David and Matt both became popular partly as heartthrobs, with lots of romantic subplots and tensions with other characters. Casting Peter was a deliberate left turn away from that, and I think hard especially for younger viewers who'd never seen Old Who. I'm not reducing Angela's reactions to that, but I don't think it's crazy to feel like "this character was a charming, dashing adventurer and now he's an old crank."

Carl Wilson

That said, yeah, when Capaldi's allowed to stop playing cranky and gets hold of that guitar, turns out he can be just as hot!

I don't think it was Osgood's death that set off the Zygon rebellion - it's said several times that it's just a rebellious faction of the younger generation who hate living in disguise (thus "Truth and Consequences") & given that they're stronger than humans, why not take over? I think what Osgood said wasn't about hybrids (she and her "sister" were the only hybrids because they kept their connection open) but that the Zygons have evolved and now don't need the original people once they've gotten all the information they need from them, or something like that, which just seemed like a gobbledygook explanation for how they could kill their originals, to raise the stakes. I really love the two-part structure - agree that it makes for better stories. As in the last set, the second one is the real payoff here - in fact one of my favourite episodes ever. Evil Clara ("Bonnie") is awesome, a great opportunity for Jenna to mix it up again.

To be fair to the eighties writers, they were set in a near future that did look incredibly seventies.

The Hybrid has been mentioned since "The Witch's Familiar." Davros mentioned it and has since been alluded to in every two parter (I think). Davros suggested the Doctor knows about it and fled Gallifrey in fear of it.
