Peter Capaldi’s finest hour.

Benjamin Davis

That speech at the end made my whole entire family cry when it aired

James Hoffmann

Angela, THIS speech is why so many of us LOVE Capaldi's Doctor!!

PG Modehouse

oh yes, been waiting for this one. I'm getting misty eyed just thinking about it.

Justin Harris

Anticipating this episode is why I joined this Patreon community. 😍

MaxValPlatt

I think that I'm slightly worried that there were any need to delete Kate's memories 15 times already... They rather had situations like that all the time or Kate might be slightly trigger happy...

AidanAustin316

Peter Capaldi is good in this episode especially the Black Archive scene

River Docken

I've been looking forward to your reaction to this episode. There's a few reactors that say Peter's speech was so emotional but when you watch them they hardly react at all. I knew you would show how touched you were by it. That's why you're one of my favorite reactors ☺️

Clare W

“i’ll be the judge of time” 😭😭😭😭those two!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️such deep caring

The Sick Gamer

From the mind of my dad, a World War Two Vet. "War is Hell." Literally, figuratively, absolutely. His statement is right on all levels that Hell is visualized, complete with the trauma. Never forget it. "War is Hell." Enough said.

James Hoffmann

Considering that The Doctor is a Time Lord, that lines feels very appropriate.

Clare W

The Time Judge, The Carer Of Clara, The Oncoming Storm 🔥🔥

Clarine

That speech floored me the first time I witnessed it. I like that you like season 9.

Josef Schiltz

"Five rounds rapid!" Kate echoing her father. "Chap with wings, there. Five rounds rapid!" It is also the title of the biography of the actor, Nicholas Courtney, who played Kate's father, Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge Stewart.

Liem

The Doctor’s speech this episode. THIS was Capaldi’s definitive moment. If anyone ever doubted he was the Doctor, that speech proved otherwise. What a fantastic episode this was.

Luis Badillo

I signed up for patreon to get this ep early. Can't wait for the react

Natalie

I’ve been waiting for you to see this one. I knew Capaldi had already won you over, but this is one of his better speeches and I think it really does a lot to make you love him.

Cross Hatched95

PETER BLOODY CAPALDI! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Over50Gamer

This one has THE speech I will carry for the rest of my life. EVERYone, especially world leaders, should watch this.

Chris Carroll

I always found Capaldi funny, and his arc from really alien to more human is one of the best any doctor was given (except maybe the 6th's arc from arrogant asshole to strange heroic book nerd). But this solidified him as MY doctor. Sorry Paul McGann

Al

People were mean? It's so strange to me that someone could choose to watch a person's reaction to shows but feel the urge, and i suppose arrogance, to tell that person that their reaction is wrong. I personally stopped watching the show entirely after a couple eps of season 8. It didn't feel like the doctor at all. Decided to give it another chance years later and found myself enjoying it. Fair play for pushing through that after having no time to get over 11's departure.

Steve Combs

Capaldi, in my opinion, is the best actor to have ever played this role. He expressions and line deliveries are incredible in scenes like this. He is the face I see when I think of the character. He is my Doctor.

Popcorn73

Emotional breakdown in 3... 2... 1...

Robert A.

"Five rounds, rapid!" is an order her father used to give when in a combat situation. A force reaction was often his first thought, which annoyed the Doctor to no end. I am somewhat saddened that when Kate was introduced, she was all "Science first" but that seems to have fallen to the wayside by this point.

Michael Jones

The choice to have no music scoring the speech scene, just Capaldi and Coleman setting the screen ablaze with their acting. It’s amazing.

Dingus Ex Machina

Remember in the 50th Anniversary when Kate Stewart said that Clara already had clearance to enter from her last visit to UNIT? Pretty sure this is the visit she was referencing.

We are in a time of people who want to press the button. And im not sure its always the "glory" of victory as much as believing that coexistence / compromising is unacceptable to live with. There are perhaps times it is - when your existence is threatened. but usually, its a worse alternative but people think it isnt bc they focus on the effects of winning and not what will be lost by fighting.

William Huebler

Thoughts for me on Nth rewatch of this - Also, 12 gets through when he tells Bonnie what he has come to understand about himself. his incarnation is "holding his pain so close to his chest that it burns his hand." His distant coldness was an attempt to protect himself so he make sure "no one else has to live like this." He couldnt bear to feel it himself early on. Remember a timelord just in a flash becomes a new person, with a shared memory and set of values yes, but a completely different personality. We all have our own ways of dealing with trauma and pain, and the Doctor has a lot to deal with. Imagine waking up one day and the way you react to stupidity or kindness or sarcastic comments just changed in a flash to the polar opposite. the things that grate on you just suddenly change completely. We all learn what our triggers and issues are over a lifetime of experience and growth, and he had no time for any of that learning and growth. I dont think most of season 8 he understood why he was feeling what he was. He just knew he was feeling it. And its not like he wasnt dealing with some heavy s***. Now he understands and is getting more comfortable being vulnerable, bc he understands himself better. i think on reflection his first big question to Clara was "am i a good man?" Like he knew there was something wrong, that he felt different, but he didnt understand why. And it made him question everything about himself. But he had to get through and learn and grow it still and be the Doctor still on the journey.

William Huebler

alternatively put - compromise means allowing bad things to happen. war is the alternative to compromise. war happens when people decide that the bad things from compromise are more than the bad things from fighting a war to bring the otherside forcefully to your viewpoint. the fact, that is often impossible and that we underestimate how much war costs is why it happens.

Pyth

The speech of all speeches. Capaldi killed it during this episode.

Jeremy B

Remarkable speech. Phenomenal acting and writing. Peter’s performance left me breathless. It really cemented his place as my Doctor. He rises to the same heights again, at least twice before his run is eventually done. What an actor. And a brilliant turn from Jenna, playing two different versions of the same character. PS - she realised she wasn’t really ready to leave at the end of season 8 and thankfully Moffat made it work so she could be involved in season 9 as well. PPS - There was indeed a Christmas special after this season, but the title contains a massive spoiler, so get Drew to set the episode up for you. Doctor Who had a gap year in 2016, but it did have a Christmas special before season 10, so you’ll get to watch two Christmas specials in a row!

Meredith Woods

So glad you're loving Capaldi now. I knew you would come around!

Cody Eckert

Yes! This! This episode is the one I've been waiting for. I guessed Flatline would be the one where 12 finally started to click with you, and I was mostly right about that. But I've been looking forward to this one the most because its probably my favorite episode of the season. This is definitely my favorite two-parter of the season for sure. 12s speech at the end is my favorite Doctor speech in the entire show, and Jenna's acting in this episode is just phenomenal. > "Haha just kidding, got you guys to sit down in a room and talk about this" *side eye* No shot you just nearly word for word clocked the point of the Osgood box. > "You can't just out people as Zygons" Oh my God, Angela, you can't just ask people why they're Zygon! Osgood has to be my favorite character of the Moffat era. She's so good. > "Who was on that painting?" That was the First Doctor! The whole scene of Bonnie talking to Clara in the pod is just a testament to Jenna's acting ability. She really feels like two different people to an unnerving degree. The reveal of the Osgood boxes is so good too. "Did you want special treatment?" Yes. Yes she did. Bonnie is the equivalent of a child throwing a temper tantrum because she didn't get her way. The scene in the Black Archive is one of my favorite moments in the entire show. It gives me chills every time I watch it. The Doctor, Bonnie, and Kate going back and forth is just exceptional here. No soundtrack. No grand sweeping orchestra or "I am The Doctor" or "A Good Man?" blaring in the background. Just people talking. Debating their perspectives. The Doctor finally using Bonnie's real name instead of calling her Zygela like he has been for rest of the episode is such a great way to show how serious he is in the moment and the amount of respect he's actually giving her. And then the speech. "Until everybody does what they were always gonna have to do from the very beginning: sit down and talk!" While not as fun and happy as your version at the start of the reaction, I love this sentiment. What is the point of all the fighting, death, and devastation when inevitably both sides are just going to end up at a table talking it out anyway. Let's just cut out all the terrible middle steps and sit at the table first instead. Then, we once again get to witness The Doctor's capacity to forgive and move on. And when The Doctor gets to that moment of making damn sure Bonnie knows he understands the stakes and that he knows her position and her mindset better than she does, his raw emotion just overwhelms you. It certainly overwhelmed Kate, who was probably thinking just how disappointed her father would be with her in that moment. I love how proud of her The Doctor is when she finally changes her mind, apologizes, and steps away from the box. They were on something else when they wrote this scene. "And you should know, I'm a very big fan." So are we Doctor. So are we. Spoilers Below! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "I let Clara Oswald get inside my head. Trust me, she doesn't leave." 👀

People shouldn't be mean to you! It was literally in the writing that he was figuring himself out and not super likeable. I struggled with it too. He and Clara had a toxic thing going for sure. They've really hit their stride here. His speech in this episode is a top 5 Doctor speech. I was so glad to see you get to this one!

Wes

This speech was one I pictured when you first started dr who and I have been SO excited for you to get here the whole time, I rewatch this speech at least once a month its so goddamn good and I knew it would be something special to watch you see the first time

I swore to be a pacifist after watching this episode, I know it's not real but the show itself got me through rough times and it made me into someone I can really be proud of. "Never give up, never give in, never cruel or cowardly and if you ever are, always make amends" truly my favorite show and watching others react to it is a special thing to me. I'm so glad you liked the 12 doctor after giving him some time to develop and grow more and more as he did in his other regenerations. Will you ever watch the classic episodes? Personally I think doctor who itself is impossible to be bored of as long as you appreciate the stories and the lessons they teach. The classic stories don't have as much intensity but are still fantastic stories that I think you'll enjoy them!

Welcome to MY Doctor. This moment is actually the PEAK, Nothing after this is as good when it comes to Anti-War. Is there more great Who moments to come, absolutely, but this is never duplicated again. 12 has more great moments to come, but this... is a Chef's Kiss!!
