Witnessing the progression of your field in real time, getting to be there and maybe even having a hand in some of the biggest contributions to the modern sciences. When I learned that career students (people who choose to attend at least one college class a semester for life and accumulate degrees) were a thing, my first thought was, "I wanna do that!" I was 12. 😅 Unfortunately, my budget has only gotten me to a bachelor's so far.
