Patreon Tier Changes for October (Patreon)
Content
Except for adding the custom tier, I've left my tiers pretty much the same since I started development back on To Be A King. It's time for a few tweaks. Good news! Nothing is being taken away or moved to a higher tier. Three existing tiers are getting some additions.
It's been a bit of a challenge to strike a balance in rewards for two different groups of patrons: those who love To Be A King and those who want to support my YouTube tutorials. I know there is some overlap between the two groups, but it doesn't seem to be large. One thing to note if you're here because of YouTube, your support means a lot and is vastly better for me than the meager amount YouTube's ads give me.
I will be making some adjustments next month so that I can better filter notices for those who just want the game and those who are more focused on my tutorials. More on that once some more things are through testing there. Now, let's talk about the additions to existing tiers.
Additions
The $5 tier is getting something extra special: a monthly special render voted on by $5 and up patrons. As with any tier changes, this benefit is also available to higher tiers. If you're familiar with what other devs do here, you know what my plan is. Much like our most recent poll for two special 4K renders, I'll put up a poll early in the month with some choices, let you all vote on the winner, and provide the 4K render later in the month. In order to not bombard people with polls, at least for now, even higher tiers will only get one vote in the poll.
$10 tier patrons and up get a monthly Q&A with me now. I imagine that this will be a bit more popular with those of you pledging to me to support my tutorials, but, hey, I never know. It will be an open Q&A, and I'll try to vary the times so all my patrons scattered around the globe can attend semi-regularly, if they want (it will almost certainly be on weekends though). This Q&A, unlike some other occasional ones I'll do, will only be available to $10 and up patrons.
The $20 tier is getting some extra special things. You'll get access to three things at this tier, starting in October. Firstly, you'll get a behind the scenes video of my visual novel development process. I'll be highlighting different parts each month, whether it is coding, writing, character development, render setups, or postwork. The second part of this is that you'll get access to some of the "tools" I've developed to help streamline my visual novel development. Unfortunately, I can't give you access to things like Articy Draft, but you'll get spreadsheet templates, process documents, etc. that I use while creating To Be A King. And if I develop anything new or make a major update to one of these, then you will get that too. Now, those are more for those who are interested in my tutorials (though the behind the scenes video I'll work in more general interest stuff).
Oh yeah, one other thing I'm adding to the $20 tier. Every quarter, you'll get a special comic. Likely 20-30 renders, and it will be a small thing with characters from outside the To Be A King universe. I'll release the first one sometime before the end of the year. Just a little bonus for you all, and a chance for me to work on my extremely short story skills. If you've played this from me, then you have a good idea of what to expect (though these comics won't be quite that long). I don't plan to take several days on these. Ideally something I could knock out in 2 days or so once a quarter for a change of pace.
I promise this last change is a quick one. Those pledging to the custom tier ($60) will now get 3 customs, though of the same request. How does that work? If you pledge to get a custom, you message me your idea. I rarely turn anything down unless I lack the assets or it is just too far out of bounds for my tastes. Now, instead of getting a single 4K render with the idea, I'll do two other versions of the request. Those might be in different outfits and poses, maybe a small tweak on the original request, etc. Since the hard part is me setting up the custom render in the first place, it seems more than fair to provide a couple of extra renders while I'm working on the original custom render request.
I promise that is it for changes for awhile. Hope everyone enjoys these additional benefits!
