Having fallen silent for a few breaths of time, Hasegawa chuckled slightly before nodding. She was happy to see that he could still joke around even in this sort of situation.
“In a way, you aren’t wrong. We, the Etoulde, are foreigners to this universe. The universe we came from is named ExE and stands for Evi x Etoulde. Most universes are named after the two strongest races in existence in their respective universes. For example, this universe is called DxD and represents the Deus and the Dragons.”
Basara did not make any joke this time. The earlier one was simply made to lighten up the heavy atmosphere between them.
“The situation in ExE is quite problematic. The Evi, a form of mechanical life, erased basically all forms of life in our universe except us, the Etoulde. We did what we could but the Evi are simply too powerful. Furthermore, it’s harder to protect than to destroy. So we have always been in a disadvantageous situation. In the end, we decided that there was only one way out of this predicament... Finding help.”
Hasegawa smiled bitterly, “It wasn’t easy. Honestly speaking, ExE already stands at the top of many universes. But be it luck or destiny, we, and by we I mean Raphaeline, managed to find this world. A world that, while inferior to ExE for the time being, had the potential to reach us. In the end, three of the Ten Gods were sent to observe DxD and help in the development and overall direction of this universe. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time a universe destroyed itself because of its own inhabitants.”
She laughed dishearteningly, “I will spare you the finer details but Raphaeline was particularly entranced by the infinite possibilities of humans and fell in love with this race. During World War II, even though the hostility had somehow ceased, the three factions still fought from time to time. Like what happened between Vasco and Kokabiel, a cadre of the Fallen Angels. Your father fought against many powerful devils such as Sirzechs and established himself as the strongest human in existence. This is what history has everyone believe.”
Her eyes gleamed. “Jin Toujou didn’t just fight against Sirzechs, however. Most of the time, the one he would face was someone on par with him but who rarely acted on the frontlines… You should have already guessed who I am talking about, right?”
Basara nodded, “My mother.”
“One of your mothers.”
Hasegawa was very insistent on that particular point. Since she had to come clean she wanted to at least make Basara recognize the existence of his second mother.
“Either way. The fight between your father and Sapphire could only be described as…epic. But the problem was that it was a little too epic, for everyone involved. In the end, Raphaeline ended up intervening in order to stop them from destroying themselves, but made the situation worse. The end result was that the three of them were pulled deep into the Dimensional Gap with no hope of finding the exit and they stayed there for years on end.”
She shook her head, “Your father is quite the dashing man and both Sapphire and Raphaeline had a long-time interest in him. As for those two, neither of them was a slouch when it came to beauty. I dare to say that they were extremely dazzling.”
(Sapphire above and Raphealine below.)
“Now imagine. One handsome man with two beautiful and enticing women. All of them were interested in each other and none of them were particularly shy. Now those three are locked in a place with absolutely nothing to do. What did you think happened?”
Basara blushed slightly before coughing, trying his best to hide his growing sense of awkwardness. He could indeed easily imagine what happened in the end.
“You were conceived then. The one who became pregnant was Sapphire. But of course, there was one problem or to be exact— three.”
She shook her head, “Imagine a child born between the strongest human Hero and a cadre of the devils. Jin would have been labeled as a traitor and all his achievements scrapped. Of course, they didn’t care about it but your growth and education would have been severely affected. They did not wish for their child to live such a life.
Secondly and more importantly, they were still unable to leave the Dimension Gap. You might not know it, but not anyone can explore that place as it constantly erodes the body and basically anything that's foreign to its natural composition. It’s impossible for the weak to survive there and what would be weaker than a baby? Should you have been born, chances were that your first breath would have also been the last.
The final problem was that for all the power they had, none of them knew how to bring a child into the world…Though they certainly did know how to make one.”
This time it was Basara's turn to chuckle at the unexpected joke. This was a story he knew nothing about so he had been a little tense.
“The one who found the solution was Raphaeline. Using her godly powers, she managed to take you out of the womb of Sapphire and put you in her own. Then she slowed down her own time to stretch the pregnancy for as long as possible. Meanwhile, you were constantly nourished by her essence. When they finally came back, Sheila was the one to help in bringing you to the world.” [1]
Hasegawa looked deeply at Basara, “Do you understand Basara? You are the fruit of the love of those three. You were born from Sapphire's egg and Jin’s seed, but the one who kept you in her womb for the equivalent of years and gave birth to you was none other than Raphaeline. She is as much your mother as Sapphire is and for you, she did not hesitate to break a taboo, even if she knew that she would be excommunicated.”
Basara did not know what to say. Though something was bothering him, “How did they manage to leave the Dimensional Gap?”
Hasegawa shrugged, “That… I do not know. You will have to ask Jin and Sapphire to get the answer you want.”
“I see. Then….What happened to Raphaeline?”
Hasegawa’s face contorted a little at his question. Pain and anger were still evident in her trembling face,
“Keeping you in her stomach for years and giving birth to you had greatly weakened her. It is even worse that she ended up having a great part of her power sealed as a punishment for what she did. In the end, she vanished after battling a powerful devil. Her life and death unknown.”
Basara closed his eyes as he understood who his parents were searching for during all those years. A fit of silent anger grew in his heart. Even though he had never met her, it was evident to see how much that woman sacrificed for him.
“Who is the culprit?”
Hasegawa shook her head, “At your current level, you have no chance of facing him. Even if you enter your previous berserk mode, the chances are still close to none.”
“I am not so arrogant that I would underestimate an enemy that eluded my parents for years. I just want a name.”
Hasegawa saw how serious Basara was. Since she already said so much then she should at least reveal everything, right?
As such…
“His name is Rizevim. Rizevim Livan Lucifer. The strongest devil in existence!!!”
[1]: I invented nothing, aside from mixing with DxD. So everything I said is Canon in Shinmai. I don’t know how the author thought of something so convoluted, but heh.
(AN: This chapter is mainly for those who don’t know much about Shinmai as well as giving my own version of the lore since I mixed the two stories. Hope you liked how I tweaked the events.)
