We're doing a weird, long update cycle this time, but I think it will be for the best overall. Definitely into the thick of final battle stuff on my end. But that's what I've been saying for a little while now, so... let's talk about internet service providers.

Some of you may remember last year when my ISP was down for over a day during a release period, which wasn't great. I haven't talked about it, but I investigated other options and discovered that there's a good fiber optic option here now! Switched to it months ago and it's working great.

Most of the time, your observable speed actually has more to do with browsers and other secondary factors than raw internet speed. But when uploading these game files... whew, you feel the difference then! It's not just faster, this seems to confirm my old theory that doing a big upload led to my connection getting limited for the duration. I still have to wait for RPG Maker to compile, but the upload part of the process is so much smoother now. ^-^

Anyway, while I'm focusing ever more on the final updates, endgame issues and bugs are still coming up. For example, I realized that the Erosian smith investment was originally intended to be necessary for a party member's custom equipment, but I never actually followed up on this. Unless someone else can think of a piece of equipment where this would logically fit in, though, I think I'll have to leave this one as just a subpar investment for more Erosia points.

Probably going public with this update next weekend. This hasn't slowed down my work on future content up to this point, but that won't be true forever.

Regarding ISPs, my experience with the fiber optic is similar but the from the other way. For instance when I downloaded the version 0.73.2 version, someone asked a question and I answered quickly. When my eyes returned the screen the download was finished and we're talking files around the 0,7 GB. So I'm happy for you and for me too. Regarding the Erosian smith, there has been an interesting discussion in the optimization channel: part of the crowd was very skeptical about and others were convinced that it was going to be relevant for future items creation. This will probably change a little a part of the optimized routes, because 350,000 ProN can have some sort of impact.

As to the Erosian Smith, I'd had a strong feeling that it and the other smithing investments were going to be necessary for reforging the Incubus King gear into its final forms. My theory went something like: Givini Smithing: The Pin (as it unlocks the ability to purchase Givini Pins at the mage guild. Eustrin Guild: Armor, because Eustrin's all about armor. Premium Steel: Likely the shield or helm, though I admit this one is mostly by default. Sucubus Armorer: The helm, since she already worked on Hilstara's helm, or the shield. Erosian Smithing: The sword, due to some associations between Erosian weaponsmithing and swordcraft, etc. Maybe I'm completely off base and you have totally different plans for the equipment, but I thought this would be another fun way to reward investing in investments that allow for better equipment, whilst not providing very good returns. If it doesn't serve some sort of purpose, then I'm fairly sure the Erosian Smithing will be dropped in just about any optimized route, since it doesn't provide enough Erosia Score on it's own to be needed anywhere, and for an unoptimized run going off of feels, it'd be a bit lame to have the implication that restoring their weaponsmithing arts will help in some way, and then it just...doesn't. Anyway, that's my two cents, hopefully it helps guide your thinking one way or the other.

Clear solution to the smith problem: Lilith wants a katana. Lilith loves collecting things! Is she suited to using it? Almost certainly not! Would she let others use it since they know swords? Also no! She's a collector and if a dork like Estaven had one and she didn't...

sierralee

It was originally intended to, but that plan didn't come to fruition. Unless I can come up with an alternative.

WaxerRed

Maybe a second Autumn Claw for Uyae? I believe you can only get one so far in game, so a second would allow for the double claw play.

sierralee

Not the direction things are going, sorry. Can't really think of a way to integrate it except for custom equipment.

Rachnera

The only party character I can see having some experience with the katana is Ginasta, due to her time in Erosia and wanderer life in general. Though I guess Ralph might need a Hero Sword eventually? What's the guy becoming by the way? Haven't seen him since he went to do some fetch quests in the Chalice States I believe?

sierralee

I like this idea, if only I hadn't already given Uyae two pieces of unique equipment. I don't know, maybe I could throw in some other "good but not unique" equipment if people were interested and had ideas.

WaxerRed

Hey, if you throw in a second Autumn Claw for Uyae, then it's no longer unique and now she's only got one unique equipment item! Other than that, perhaps a new shield to buy for Hilstara? For me, she's been using the Tower Shield since early chapter 2.

Cylothar

Fair enough, no worries. But I do think that investing in it should give *someone,* somewhere in the world, a cool sword that will come into play in a future bit of content. I like Rachnera's idea about Ralph. It doesn't need to be a huge bonus, or dramatically mechanically impactful, just something that gets a note of 'Hey because Erosian smithing techniques didn't die, I was able to make this'. Even as an optimizer little things like that are worth it enough to try to include in the routing, and it'll be a cool payoff for people playing blind.

Besrodio

The Ryoken Battleaxe is one of the better weapons for Hilstara, and she's only got the Helm as far as custom items go, wouldn't be the worst thing to have her pay them for a custom item with similar properties to the Battleaxe.

Runcible Technician

Glad to hear about the good internets. Do they still bottleneck you if you use a VPN? Is it just a raw data thing?

Q-Riff

Nalali's got her custom armor but what about Swords or off-hand? Might I also add that the Crusader Sword (from the war faults) or Ancient crusader sword (from incubus war) might be able to be re-forged into something for Ginasta or Nalali since unsexual energy is a kind of sexual energy according to Yarra (so after Vhala's quest?).

sierralee

Does she really only have the one? Huh. This is a good suggestion, thanks.

sierralee

I'm not completely sure, but it seemed like whenever I did an upload, my internet nearly stopped working.

sierralee

Hmm, things to consider, thanks!

Seeing that we are giving suggestions, I think that dominated Varia could use an upgrade to her gear, because, from the point of view of equipment, she loses against her counterpart. Reshaped Varia has access to the Anti-Sex element and she can equip the Crusader Mail. Dominated Varia don't have any advantages, apart from be able to use Sexual Accessories (there is a bot more of variety on this category that in the Anti-Sexual one, but there is nothing remarkable that helps dom-Varia). Maybe, dom-Varia should have access to a special armor or her swords could be upgraded to using attacks with no element (like Lilith's SS Chaotic Vigor or Boring McBoring, lol). That way, she could be her usual helpful against enemies with Physical resistance/immunity. For the armor, a special version of Crusader Mail would be nice. The Sublime Armor that is her BiS is not that Sublime, specially for that price.

You could make it a glove instead, so you actually have a reason to use both the unique types of Zirantian equipment? I do feel like Uyae is slightly underperforming in whichever role she's currently filling. She's a decent all-rounder, but chapter 5 generally awards having a squad with specialized combat roles, capable of targetting specific enemy weaknesses. Feel like a single additional piece of equipment could do a lot to help her. Autumn Claw and Spring Glove. Could be dope.

WaxerRed

The “spring glove” is such a cool name. But in my opinion Uyae would need two of any claw/glove given to her. I’ve found well that she is subpar if you play her as a “Fight and a healer” but she is great in both categories if you play her as a “Fighter OR a Healer”. A claw and a glove on makes her a poor party member. But with two claws she is a top tier fighter and two gloves makes her a top tier healer. And I’ve had in both roles throughout the playthrough, and especially during split party sections.

Abso Haram

Thematically it makes sense for Ginasta… Erosia had the most impact on her as a character, so the upgrade being tied to her could also reflect overcoming being a former tool of the tower and war conduct, her finding new purpose and growing stronger. Maybe fight a specter of a new “Ginasta” in the tower that is in the process of taking over a new girl for the upgrade material? Just a thought.

DankPotatoes

It's true that Uyae's arguably best build has been atk-specialized with 2 zirantian claws for all of chapter 3 and 4. But the meta in chapter 5 is different. Other characters get unique equipment and new skills in droves. And more importantly, enemy encounters reward blind, physical attacks with characters like Varia and Uyae, that kill enemies before they can retaliate far less: There are many more enemies that resist physical attacks or that are very hard to reliably kill in a single turn. For most encounters you benefit more from having a mage, succubus or Vhala capable of targetting their specific weaknesses. Uyae can no longer keep up with that old role of "Takedown-spammer" Even with an additional autumn claw, her damage output can't hope to match most other characters, for most dungeons. I feel like giving her equipment to expend her potential uses, to be a reliable, bulky all-rounder, similar to Ginasta with healing instead of magic, is both more efficient, and more in line with her character/background

Dubsington

I second Ginasta getting some quality gear. I have found terribly few situations where having her in the party makes sense, so IMHO she could use a buff.
