UPDATE

New bugfix build out to deal with a specific error blocking some players, plus assorted other content.

TLS 0.74.1

- Primarily a hotfix to remove a fatal bug when your final variables are too uneven.

- Minor bugfixing and polishing, but this is not the fully revised build.

- Additional tweaks to Rachnera's control scripts.

- The base library is now complete. One shelf will fill retroactively, one will fill if you talk to Grynyth in the base, and the last is reserved for the final optional dungeon.

- New illustrated scenes: Hilstara Massage, Titfucking Tips, and Robin + Qum

- Added a sheep Zirantian thanks to Annikath, primarily for Annikath. =P

- Annikath also made new unique sprites for Iris and Trin.

- Relevant to much earlier content, the Lustlord fight has been nerfed.

ORIGINAL POST

I don't usually post updates earlier in the day, in part because often I'm not done yet and in part because when I have, people generally don't have time until later anyway. But this is a large update and it's ready, so I might as well post it now for anyone who does have time.

Now that we're at the end, I almost don't want to say anything. But I do need to emphasize that victory is not guaranteed and you cannot leave the final battle. Please keep extra saves, and not just because this release could well be buggy. Much of it is polished, but I'm afraid that some combination of choices will leave the player stranded on a map or something.

But all that said... this is the final battle. I did the best I could to pour all my love for TLS into this. I hope you enjoy it.

After so many years of following your progress, it feels weird to realize that in probably not too distant future, it'll be finished and nothing more will happen... I mean, it'll be great to have TLS done and fully complete, but part of me feels as if I didn't want the development updates to stop.

As a guy living in Europe in the middle of the most insane exam season of my life, with this evening as pretty much the only spare time on my schedule for the forseeable future, I'm very thankful you decide to upload a bit earlier. *sigh* Here we go.

Dragof2

Aaaaaaaagh! *deep breath* aaaaaaaaaagh!

Zaq Reman

The archway in the Final Clearing is walkable, also I don't see Lilith there, is that intentional?

As mentioned on Discord here's all the spots I could find that you can wander off the path used a pen to indicate how much or where if somewhat unobvious https://imgur.com/a/78jbcDg

And done. Reached one of the endings. Quick report in the heat of the moment: Big update is BIG. Honestly have no idea at this point what is ineluctable and what can be deeply altered. Fancy battlefield map! More save points please. Especially before big fights that are after smaller fights/long cutscenes/decisions. For example, I do believe Ginasta's solo fight is winnable as she literally gives you the silent treatment until almost the very end if you skip it. But I didn't have in me to redo the fight just before every time to test different builds/strategies. Fancy power ups for everyone! I felt the Harem Prison overstayed its welcome a bit. Plot wise it's just one of the myriads of things happening at once. But gameplay wise it takes a very long time, there's no real way to speed it up (even the Incubus Prison had some minor sequence breaking) and as soon as you unlock Ivala's help it just turns into no pressure methodical cleanup. The Dragon Ball reference was a bit too pushed for my taste. Not so much the last part that was supposed to be silly than the whole "doing the exact same pose as San Goku out of the blue". Getting a bit too late here for my brain to properly function so I'll give it another try tomorrow. But at the moment, the last optional boss just kicks my ass hard. I was half expecting all these Chosen to drop a ton of now obsolete Shining Swords. Incredibly minor thing but: Should Esthera and Sabith show up on the deck of the Agnostic?

First, I want to say I've been subscribed for nearly seven years now and it's so great to see the conclusion of this story that I've sunken literally hundreds of hours into! Unfortunately I can't see the full conclusion because I've hit a bug, after Mythyn gains the power of her followers the screen goes black and doesn't progress.

genericname12345

I've been subscribed since, like, right after the Battle of Yhilin? This has come a long way, and I'm so eager to dig into this. ...perhaps after I run a fresh clean save because I feel like my current one's gotten a bit wonky and I want to run a newly semi-optimized run. Also: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! FINAL BATTLE! AHHHHHHH! I can't wait for what comes next to wrap up TLS properly, and what other projects you have in store. Can you give us any tidbits?

Cylothar

I have managed to encounter a softlock. I posted the relevant save in the discord for your investigation, or I can attempt to send it here on Patreon as well. Does Patreon support file transfer, actually?

Finished update, in four different flavors too. Had a lot of fun this update, there were fun moments, teary moments, and wheel of pain, I mean fate, moments DBZ was strong in this update, as a shounen fan I approve, as a TLS fan, still approve ,fun is fun. Really happy you could feel all of the buildup the whole game has had, as well as the final overworld, flourish beautifully. Feel like some more moments to save would have been helpful, but my brain is fried so I can't remember where. Harem prison was slightly tedious but I'm willing to chalk that up to me passing the same switch like 4 times. Can't wait for datamining to see how much harder we can dumpster Hester and Xerces. Speaking of, interestingly I found the penultimate Hester to be harder than the ultimate form, Xerces was the inverse of this, I dunno why, I did both penultimates before even attempting the ultimates, and those before the wheel of pain but we gottem all of 'em. Played really conservatively stamina-wise so I'll probably do more stamina heavy actions when my newest run catches up. Been following this game since around 2016-2018 somewhere there been so long can't actually remember. I think it was the first time I ever registered with F95 and looked at the latest updates saw it there with the "text-based" tag and thought "what the hell", it has been a blast and to feel the final battle hit is kinda surreal. This game genuinely raised my standard for both games and storytelling so that's been pretty cool. I'm rambling, regardless thanks a lot for this update and all work you do.

Modern_Viking

First thing first ; Love your work, the game is freaking awesome, started playing a little while ago, and damn is it good ! Now for my question, sorry for the ignorance, but what is the difference between both downloads ?

Dubsington

After all these years, I bet it felt weird to type that last paragraph.

Runcible Technician

Six years since I started contributing to this game. It's been a journey.

DankPotatoes

Damn. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm as busy as busy can be, I would leave a novel containing all my thoughts on the final battle. Instead I'll have to summarize it in 4 words: Holy shit. Thank you.

Mycroft

hello, the ending have been great so fare, but It seam I encountered a bug where I weakened the anak too much, in the phase where both him and hester are marching toward the center, the anak have gone back so much that he is now on the right of the screen, and the game is freezing. I can post a save on discord if you want.

Grim8P

Finished the update. I'll admit, I was a bit worried about how enjoyable it would be given that it is the culmination of everything, and you yourself seemed a bit nervous, but that was not warranted. I think this is my favourite section in the game, and that is saying something. Absolutely great job. Some quick notes/feedback: - Final Clearing convo with Dari loops instead of setting a self-switch for a second page of dialogue. - Grubbak died and I used the final potion. Then Ulrissa died. No one else for me. Ginasta's last stand fight wrecked me so I reloaded and then didn't let her. >.> - I destroyed Xerces. Hester was pretty difficult but I did it first try. Took a lot more effort. - I thought I was doing the Wheel of Fate fight the wrong way. When the screen flashed I did not notice that the boss updated. I got to the final version every time but hilariously it was turn 5 every time the three times I tried the fight last night so I thought the boss was healing on a timer and I was not out damaging the full heal so I put the game down last night and came back to it today. Got it first try there with my hilarious team of Simon, Hilstara, Nalili, and Varia. - One mapping issue I haven't seen reported yet: https://imgur.com/a/m0OqY4b Playing blind but with an optimized save, I ended up with these stats: - Finale Points: 22 - Hester Advantage: 5 - Xerces Advantage: 2 - Divine Fights: 11 - Physical World Success: 6 - Orilise Counterattack Points: 16 - Wendis' stamina hit -1 but I was positive for Sabitha and Esthera throughout, I think ending at like 3-4 for each of them? Wendis got trapped in Hester's wall though.

Mycroft

Okay, now that I have managed to finished one run to the end, I can say : you managed to make an ending that is on par with the rest of the game (and that saying a lot). I need to see the epilog to understand what the consequence will be, but right now, I think that this final war was one the best. The only downside I can think of are Wendis and Ginasta who look like they are bellow (in terme of usefulness) what I excpected them to be at the end, but I think it is because of the choice I made (I did not managed to win the fight of ginasta alone, so I rolled back and prevented her to sacrifice herself and I burn all of Wendis energy at the begining so I put her on standby after the first "rest"). Again, great work (both the ending and the game overall), I'm happy to support you and hope you will keep enjoy making games that we can enjoy as well.

Vitreous Humour

Congrats! In m read of the roadmap it sounds like there is still a bit to go? But what a huge lift this must have been!

Jeffrey Lebowski

My initial reaction? Just. Wow. This whole section felt incredibly narratively fulfilling (and reactive to decisions both immediate and past) and you can just feel the love for the world you've built just suffusing the entire thing. While the Third Arclentian War and the Great Thenoursan War were a bit more interesting as strategic puzzles, the philosophical debates constantly interrupting the war handily push this up to the top of my list of war events in TLS. And can a game even be considered a narrative classic if you can't talk the penultimate boss into killing themselves like a Bioware villain? And though it was a small moment, I was very happy to see Altina have her moment and specifically be a power duo with Mithyn! I was hoping they'd have something together for a while. I'm going to have to play it again to record bugs, but the biggest one I had was you could skip most of the first node by just walking around the big crystal and getting to the end of the dungeon. I hope you feel proud both of this update specifically and of reaching this point. I certainly enjoyed this event and the whole journey that has been leading up to it.

Besrodio

Got the time to play through it just making gut decisions on a fairly well optimized save, and overall: fantastic. Tons of decisions, clear impact from current decisions and past ones, fun music, mostly steam roller encounters until you run into the heavy hitters - it's pretty much exactly what I imagined for the final war segment. I was overly conservative with stamina so I'm excited to take the same save through again and just make different decisions, as well as spend my last couple million pron to see what things I can nudge. And then go through again with some extreme optimization run and a "Can't do anything right" run that I'm still muddling my way through - it is sometimes physically painful to make bad decisions. I'm also very curious if I can even beat the final bosses with horribly underleveled gremlins who hate each other wearing hobo equipment. Needless to say, I think this section was a stellar success, and of course builds further anticipation for an epilogue.

Rachnera

A few balancing notices; some might be very much on purpose: - It seems impossible to reach the 90+ Entity Cohesion threshold before the war (the one that unlocks a sex scene and possibly other things) unless you torture the Fucklord. - Likewise, for Fuani/Event 174, seems you need to have absolutely everything, with no leeway, for best result*. *I don't even know if that's tracked but, if you want to throw the optimizer community into a frenzy, just need to add a +1 conditioned to having recruited the Iron Cudgel **in Chapter 1** to that check.

Q-Riff

The Hester fight was harder than Xerces but very predictable, for some reason she was always targeting Yarra which once I figured out I could exploit.

Lamsey

I've only done one playthrough so far, fairly rushed due to lack of free time this weekend. I'll take a closer look later. I'm genuinely impressed at how variable this whole sequence must be, given how many checks there are. I suspect dumpster-fire saves must be quite harrowing, given what I'm hearing about people potentially dying. I'll split my feedback into multiple replies as usual to avoid taking up too much thread space.

Innocuous

The finale is great, playing it is a kind of catharsis that feels genuinely satisfyingly. I'm really excited to see how much difference there is based on choices before and during this section. I really enjoyed all of the upgraded character art busts, and the jaunty tune for the redux Fucklord fight was fun. I've played through twice, once with a better save on the x.0 version, and once with a worse save on the x.1 version. Here are the stats from those: Better Save: Fuani Died (Saved with Potion) Ulrissa Died Biyue Implied Dead Finale Points: 18 Hester Advantage: 10 Xerces Advantage: 1 Divine Fight: 13 Physical World Success: 4 Orilise Counterattack Points: 12 Worse Save, including seeing the 'Bad' Ending: Vhala Injured Fuani Died Ulrissa Died OZL Guy Implied Dead Finale Points: 13 Hester Advantage: 3 Xerces Advantage: 9 Divine Fight: 10 Physical World Success: 4 Orilise Counterattack Points: 10 Here are some issues I noted on the 0.74.1 version (sorry if any of these have already been reported): - Wendis/Esthera sprites cut-off in 'arch' in pre-battle scene (seems like this was OK in 0.74.0, but not 0.74.1) - In 'Vhala' path at beginning (Dark Locus), can just skip to crystal (before orc fight) by going left (some of the walls don't properly stop movement) - A few more odd tiles in the top left of same map that seem like should be walkable tiles, but aren't - 'Wall' in top right of Light Locus has a tile that can be walked on - Bottom left area, with all the jumps, has a piece of air that can be walked on - Overflow text on Orcent line, when Orcent attacked at base, '(We could hold this position against a faux Incubus by invoking stored spells and allies, but it would drain an immense number of resources to hold a locus just a little longer.)' - Vhala sprite still present when Anak shows up to 'negotiate' at locus point (just before Anak summons former Incubus Kings), even when she is injured - Injured Hilstara still levels up when getting promotion from Sir Bartholomew/Order of Silence (increased to level 48, lol) - The battle map in the sparkle in the Final HQ doesn't seem to update properly in the HQ part after Hester's Divine Wall comes down (the map still shows the Wall being there); also, Orcent's dialogue doesn't seem to update here either (he still references upcoming divine strikes, even though they just happened) - In the Tower's Heart map, right side, the stained glass window can be walked on - In the conversation before the final choice, Grynyth talks even if she is dead - In the bad end, Simon's sprite still has a beard even though his portrait doesn't (not sure if intentional or if it's worth making a new sprite for this, but thought I'd mention b/c Yarra asks about him growing a beard even though his sprite has one). Overall found the combat balance to be fine. The fight I had the most difficulty with was the 'Ivala Shell' fight, and the gauntlet took several tries to find a good party balance. I found one of the game overs from Xerces getting too much advantage and getting to the center too fast. I believe I've seen (the beginning of) all 3 endings. It's great to finally see a 'The End', even if it's only the bad ending so far.

Rachnera

Interestingly, from a meta perspective, this update also marks the end – or at least will once the dust will have settled and the balance be stable – of a philosophical problem the like of which I'm sure the Anak would have enjoyed: Carina's men versus a potentially better future. Saving Carina's men cost a hella lot of ProN. But, in a sufficiently optimized save, these ProN don't translate into anything critical... so far. You would tank the loss by accepting second best in a few events where first was basically "second + bragging rights reward" and otherwise do as good as more ruthless optimized save. But you would nonetheless still be a bit behind those saves, forced to delay a few seemingly non critical investments, with the eventual wall that, at the very end, you would go into the final battle with just less things on your ledger, and that this could change the outcome maybe significantly. But all that had remained hypothetical, making it a weird trolley problem about either running over a dozen quasi anonymous soldiers or possibly crashing in a better future in the distance, beyond view. Now, due to the finite nature of a game, what's on the horizon will soon become visible, collapsing this into a more traditional problem of sacrificing this or that. Which will likely strike its own debate but with totally different arguments. Let's thus contemplate together the last days of the original ethical question and the birth of a new one.

WaxerRed

Bug report! https://imgur.com/a/ku2Z3LT Bug, not sure if it has been reported. That -1 Anak highlighted probably shouldn't be there. Choosing hester has -2 if divine research is done, -1 if not. Choosing Anak has -1 to start, -2 if Incubus research is done, -1 if not.

Cylothar

One other bit of feedback, though admittedly minor, and it's possibly just me being a dumbdumb. In the beginning, Orcent mentions the offers that Wendis, Esthera, and Sabitha will make, about being deployed in the battle. When he says, "However, I would urge that you not take all three," I actually interpreted that to mean 'Do not take any of them'. Other people did not interpret it this way, so I'm possibly just a dummy, but a way to clarify might be either emphasizing 'all' in the sentence, or something like 'I would urge that you refuse at least one,' though that could possibly lead to the same sort of misunderstanding. Fair enough if you think it's fine as-is though, given the line afterwards. Just figured I'd mention it!

WaxerRed

Found what I think is a bug. During the "Madam Hester Bring down that wall" section, there's a possibility for Uyae to appear. However you need a "Crystalized divinity" in your inventory for it to happen. Is that right? I'm wondering if that check is meant to be for the "Pure Divinity", the unique item we get after a certain number of shining sword conversion. "Crystalized divinity" is the crafting item.

It's very similar to the one I made for disabling main menu items; if the comments don't make the intended usage clear, let me know. It doesn't look like you have any conflicting scripts, and I've tested that it works as intended during Yarra's Appeal. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zcipmdh5erz5ktwkv6g8z/suppress_auto_bgm.rb?rlkey=pllcql7zytfouf6wt4ifljvvo&dl=0 I think the new script would be useful during the following events: - Xerces's real-world monster attacks: Final HQ, 009,000 - Orilise/Elleani's counterattack: Final Clearing, 004,000 - Yarra's Appeal: Tower's Heart (bottom copy), 000,000 - probably a bunch of places in previous versions... why did I only write this script now? Further to my previous reports, it looks like there are a bunch of missing music changes during the Fortified/Battlefield locus sequence: - when entering Fortified Locus for the first time - when entering Battlefield Locus for the first time - when entering the Harem Prison (maybe reuse the Manipulation theme at 125% pitch) - when entering Fortified Locus for the second time (Wendis rescue decision) - when entering Battlefield Locus for the second time (Sarai shield) - when entering Fortified Locus for the third time (Balia orcwall) - when entering Battlefield Locus for the third time (after Hester's alliance gambit) - when entering Final HQ after IK arrival and Ginasta's kamikaze run Empty text events for IK arrivals, to be removed or replaced with short delays: - Fuzkao: Battlefield Locus, 003,000, around halfway down, just before "Hahaha, you're all going to burn" - Lustlord: same event, shortly afterwards, just before "And I, the one true Lustlord" - Estaven: Final HQ, 006,000, near the top, just before "The Lord Of Fucks has returned" - Incubus King Of The Entire World And Also The Other Stupid Continents: same event, about 70% down, just before "Eh, what's going on? ..." I forgot to make specific notes for save points, but in general, I think it would be positive to allow saving at the points where you allow the party to change formation during the long scripted sequences, e.g. after the first and second events in Fortified Locus, when switching to Battlefield Locus. I'll try to take more notes next time round. Random reports: Repeat of 'safe' - suggest changing the first to 'clear': https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8ao98inz8cmvs6wshe4ic/Screenshot-2024-06-03-21.51.19.png?rlkey=mjd9ja64a33reg8zsg5w5mqt2&dl=0 benefactors -> benefactor: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/uail3rhfljfprplw3a7h8/Screenshot-2024-06-05-23.08.31.png?rlkey=n2c6hn1kr141j057e1qqceys1&dl=0 spreadhead -> spearhead: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jvhrw6w6q7lgac0ib5p6x/Screenshot-2024-06-06-21.22.33.png?rlkey=horgqvkw0saxl1vy0cqw0rao5&dl=0 I feel like Robin should be temporarily removed while she's figuring out Xerces's arcane barrier - I had her in my spearhead party, so it's weird to have her fighting in the subsequent battle. Probably need to give the player the chance to rejig their formation as a result. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/to5d31iu9vgiq48oni68r/Screenshot-2024-06-06-21.30.14.png?rlkey=84fpe7ryono35oj089f0lvngi&dl=0

Captain Hair

How much is changing for the 74.2 version? I've been holding out for the iteration after the quick fixes thus far.
