I finished in time!

New 0.33.1 links:

TLS 0.33.0 - New section of the plot introducing the succession crisis. - One new plot scene. - There are a bunch of improvements done by Decanter. These notably include improved Stineford succubus faces, new quest log entries for quests in older sections that people found confusing, and numerous visual improvements.

TLS 0.33.1- Names added to the candidate display.- Minor balance change.- Assorted bugfixing and polishing.

I am fairly happy with the results of this one, but some caveats:

 - This is one of those that I'm afraid people will be able to blow through in 10 minutes if they ignore optional content. I hope you enjoy my attempt at something new politically.

 - Chance that there's old content in Ardford or New Givini that can break things: 99%

 - Chance that some of the new content in those places breaks old content: 99%

 - Balance is almost certain to change and I'm likely to add a new element or two.

Every time I try to design a segment that's different than a standard RPG, I go through the same process. I start with this shining abstract notion of how it will work. Then in the execution, I have to pare away or modify pieces that don't actually work or wouldn't be fun. In the end, I'm left with something I don't know how to feel about and I just have to hope that people like it. X|

FYI, some of the quest objectives are more general goals, not things that can be completed. That's because some of the things the party tries to do won't be accomplished until the next phase of this political event. You'll probably be able to guess some of that just based on how this one ends.

Okay... don't think I have much else to say. Hope everyone has fun with the release! You're probably anticipating some of the plot developments, but there are some others where I'm very curious to see what people think. ^-^

Lord Forte Games

Definitely a fun update, and not remotely on the short end for me... General question for you/anyone, is it possible to get Tyna the ambassadorial honor in this version, or is that one of the un-completable goals? I was able to do everything else I expected to... Pleased with my decision to tear everyone down now, haha. I was sort of thinking Kalant might make a good king-consort if his position was too weak even with our buoying it, so all things considered, I'm happy with my choices. Looking forward to seeing how all of it plays out going forward. Alonon's revelations regarding destiny are interesting... I'm not sure if I have to revise my personal theory of the Truth based on them or not. Going to echo that I expected to be able to do something more with Iris/Wynn after the initial conversation in the mage guild. Also, the demons in Alonon's area were probably harder than some of the optional bosses, I was impressed. As a random aside, during the other demon fight, Simon got a nice 10k crit... I never expected him to be the one competing with Vhala for highest crit score XD (My highest overall is 12k on the Incubus Emperor with Vhala). Looking forward to more, especially on the Chosen plotlines.

V

In the middle of playing still, but after Kalant is revealed but before noticing Tyna in infatuated with him, you have the option to talk to the blond elf and support Kalant instead of the boring option guy. Seems odd.

sierralee

Okay! It looks like nothing is horribly broken, so I will get some sleep. I'll put out a polishing build tomorrow - anybody preparing a report, no rush on polishing details, but do mention if there remain any bugs that could negatively impact people's experience.

Darthjake

Mestan may need to be hidden until you speak with Tyna, my game kept locking up when Tyna entered the room, because I was stuck facing Mestan.

Darthjake

Might also be nice to have their names listed on the projection, just for us old fogies who prefer looking at the female sprites :D

V

Okay, finished. Pretty fantastic. I feel a little bad for Lucy in the next update but people changing and growing apart is pretty normal. Really enjoyed messing with all the candidates.

HarmlessArachnid

Bug: I can meet Mestan in New Givini's noble district before even finishing the "collect the group" quest in the beginning of the Chapter (I've decided to replay it to do some better investments). Interacting with him sends me to a meeting with Tyna and freezes the game.

Jan Dietrich

Oh boy, look what time it is! TLS, again. I'm really hyped about the politicking in this update, since i'm myself a huge lover of strategy games (when i'm not busy ripping demons apart in DOOM, bombing people in Far Cry 5 or playing The Last Sovereig that is) By the way, it really cheers me up seeing that your Patreon-income seems to have increased since the release of DCOW. Looks like the release brought you at least some new audience and patronage :-) Have a nice day, i'm now busy playing a porn game..... ah i mean Game Of Thrones as RPG.

Phil

In the library where you meet Elleani first: It's possible to walk under all bookshelves. No collision check there.

Grif end

...You corrupted me Sierra ! i used to think that Simon was too ruthless now i am starting to think he is not ruthless enough. Anyways great update as always

WaxerRed

I'm with Iris, Politics might not always be action packed but is fascinating to be a part of.

Jan Dietrich

I've got a little request. Would it be possible to add the characters name in the canditate overview? I'm getting really confused by all this names, who also sound often similar.

Seil

Played through the release. Initially played it on my best save, it was really fun and i am not sure how optimal the result was, but i think it was pretty close to really good.. Now i am pondering all the possibilities to actually screw it up. =)

sierralee

I have just finished uploading 0.33.1! To the degree possible, please report bugs in this one instead of the old version.

Fulminato

eceptional update, quoting sarai "My reaction is somewhere along the lines of "Holy fucking shitballs."" very well done.

Captain Hair

Double checked with the new release. The new plot sex scene hasn't been added to the Reflect menu.

Zyrus

I've read it's possible to do marriage alliances with others in this version besides Tyna? Elleani and Luanell?

SerEaglenose

There is a scrolling text box during the conversation with the king where he tells you about a demon rift having opened in 0.33.1, otherwise no noticeable bugs. Also want to agree with everyone else, fantastic release exemplifying why this game is so good, genuinely interesting mechanics that really make the world feel real and that you're having an impact on it. Also, also, I'd definitely be in camp go back to HQ when you finish a section, even if you're not able to roam the world. Maybe have the portal room blocked off with a "lets wait to discuss these revelations before we set out" or some such.

figment

Thanks for the return of the waiting screen. It really is a much cleaner transition as we know content is over for now and no concern about breaking saves by saving in wrong place. Not sure I need the free roam afterwords as its on us to complete the content and you broadcast no turning back very well. Also like the politics and lots of apparent choices with unknown outcomes which always make it a little more intriguing.

DukeLeto7

For the benefit of crazed TLS-aholic numbers obsessed succubi who did an all-nighter analyzing the code for all the suitor variables and not myself, does 0.33.1 change any one of the fundamental mechanics of the political maneuvers?

Alex

im not sure if this was reported, but as of 33.0 you can talk to mestan in the New givini courtyard, and it'll crash the game if you do it before you trigger the event starting the diplomatic chapter

Bladestorm

So I dive into this political treat and man what I was given blew my mind had to write down every political person to keep track but by golly did I do that. Love the romance shown especially with our lovely orc friend while a bit sad him and the maid I am glad he found a thought provoking girl that fits him. Love that the chosen I decide to help earlier is back and glad I could help with marriage potentials. Now question I have is there people I could hire for staff during this event ?

Definitely My Name

You can activate the small building right of the Merchant's Guild and Simon chimes in when not present. The update was a lot of fun, looking forward to playing with the different options.

DukeLeto7

OK... Finally some notes: * Text Overrun: Delgar Cavern Recollection: "I understand the desire to divide..." (I think.) * Janine can still walk through benches in the wedding chapel. Probably intentional. * Still carrying 3 plague extracts even after chating with the nice imp in the Blood Spire. (Old content.) * Aramite Bounties quest is back? * If Bhakan is Alonon's grandnephew, than he and Tyna are 1st cousins once removed, not 2nd cousins. See <a href="https://www.livescience.com/32121-whats-a-second-cousin-vs-a-first-cousin-once-removed.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.livescience.com/32121-whats-a-second-cousin-vs-a-first-cousin-once-removed.html</a> * Riala is standing by the party prepared to offer the Extradimensional foundation improvement immediately after the return from the Shard Sipping scene. Looks slightly awkward. * Shouldn't the New Givini King have been mentioned in the political summary at Elleani's estate? * Is calling the Candidate projection map "Suitors" not a mild spoiler for whoever happens to save there? * The Givini Pins cost the same as the New Givini Pins and are identical in function, so what's the point of the guy at the mage guild giving a discount? * During Farnan Talk, Elleani says "Oh! You're keeping it secretly from them, not us?", should be "secret"? * It is no longer possible to walk around the perimeter of the New Givini Mage Guild, cutting off the kid on the edge from conversation. * When talking to Wynn if she has joined after the ball incident, she says "Yeah, I still keep up ties to the Givini Mage Guild. Lot of bring people there." Should this be "boring"? "Bright"? * When Riala first responds to Alonon in the Twisted Space Calm event, she says "Why do you hate me that much?". I think it's in need of a bit more punctuation, but I'm not sure what. Am I the only one who expects Ignias to burst into constant flames while still alive, be made a living conversation piece in a bar in a city of doors in the center of extradimensional space and become the party's go to fire mage before being turned into a final dungeon subboss? We technically already have a main character who is immortal without being conventionally attractive, a knife-wielding demon hybrid, an animate suit of armor that despises mercy, some allegedly chaste succubus priestesses, a long dead former wife of the main character whose soul may be trapped in another plane, and talking monsters to death is pretty much our preferred option at this point. We just need a Githzerai swordsman voiced by Skinner from the X-Files bound to follow Simon until he dies, and a chaotic neutral Modron that sounds suspiciously like Homer Simpson to round out the "Planscape: Torment" parallels.

Phil

Is this me being stupid or a bug? I completed the Givini Ball, go to Ardoheim and find Kalant in the Order of Silence. Ignoring for a moment that I wanted to give the knighthood to the other guy anyway, Kalant was killed in Givini at that point in time. Or was that Mestan faking his assassination disguised as Kalant?

MadChemist19

Been having a lot of fun playing this update, really interesting with all the political machinations we're taking part in and how I can destroy candidates chances. Also really looking forward to the part Varia will play. And such a tease with the elleani scene! The only concerns I have are how hilstara had no dialogue (sort of jarring considering how big a part she was previously), and how there were basically no options to go "no, don't support Kalant OR this other guy". Was really put off by the Order of Silence/Kalant stuff and how I couldn't go "NO, STOP IT!". Don't want to do anything to support Kalant, at least in my current playthrough. either way, I've really enjoyed being back in the TLS world. You've been crafting a masterpiece!

Zyrus

Another bug; I can't get into that building on the bottom right in the religious district without Dari triggering 'don't want to think about it' and forcing me to leave.

Zyrus

Last question, probably; will there be long term consequences to asking Luanell to marry or not marry? Can I establish marriage ties between nations this way, or should I just have her ignore both suitors to make things less complicated? I didn't see anything to indicate either way, so...

Tanner

Was recently replaying the game with a different set of choices and came across Andra in the mines. Call me crazy, but I had the absolute hilarious idea that she might start stalking the Doom King. After all, he was the one who stood up to her.

Whismas

There doesn't seem to be a place to take a nap in your quarters in Ardford or New Givini. Doesn't really matter that much since you can just heal with spells after the rift fight, but I was a little confused wandering around.

Lamsey

Woop woop, more TLS! Another great update, the political intrigue is fun and the foreboding with the Church is delicious. It's satisfying seeing the soft power from prior investments coming good. Also, the updated notice in the Silver Stump is frikken brilliant. So, question. Does Kalant appear no matter what? Because i am pretty sure i didn't convince him or even met him in my "horrible" save. Edit: Ooooooh. Now i think i know what Robin's mysterious project was. Fun-fun. And that's quite a big one, all things considered.

KinglyOne07

At the Givini magic school, I can't reach the kid at the bottom of the screen anymore. I think it's the needle things surrounding the school grounds that are blocking me. If relevant, I am currently right after the first visit to the Tower.

DukeLeto7

Going back to dick around at HQ before replaying the new content, I remembered a couple ideas that I suggested but overarticulated. I think it might be a good idea to have a menu option to discuss the status of the development of the new (and possibly all of the) countries, and the overall status of the HQ variables, analogous to the rundown on the Army Orcent gives on the eve of the war. Maybe Iris could have the development option and Hilstara the HQ one. You talk to them and they give a report on the status of each country and each of the HQ variables. Like if the Tak'Kan variable is less than 10 Iris would say, "The orcs are struggling to make Tak'Kan into a viable nation, much work remains to be done there.", and a low Magic score at HQ would have Hilstara say "We have a good foundation of magical defenses here, but Robin and Riala are concerned it may not be enough in the event of a serious attack." I don't think it's a lot of writing and coding or I wouldn't ask, but I understand if there are e lot of more important priorities.

DukeLeto7

One last minor note. I think it's probably safe to remove the SierraLee Avatar with the save fixing event from the teleportation room now.

Trevor

A nice update and a good change of pace. I always enjoy when you split the party because it forces us to use characters we normally wouldn't. It really helps everyone stand out, both in and out of combat! Now for comments: - Yay politics! It is nice to see how through threats, bribery and sabotage we can clear Tyna's path to the throne. It is nice to solve problems without gutting everyone in the way. It is really neat how our past investments in Ardford and New Givini can clear the way for us! I do hope there is a bit more politicking to be done though. There didn't feel like any hard choices to agonize over like in the Ardford summit and it felt like a much quicker and easier process overall. -Mestan is a character I am liking more and more. I wonder what his deal is and hope we will one day KNOW the truth about him (although I expect it not to matter in the end). Also am I a bad person for wishing for a way to let him assassinate Bhakan to clear the field a bit more, while also letting Donovan's involvement be discovered thus eliminating two birds with one stone? - Varia's conversation with the King is very interesting! I thought her "bad" luck as a joke but having it be tied to some of the underlying issues of the game was very unexpected. The plot thickens. It also seems like the King could clear up a ton of our questions if he could just get over his existential crisis! He might not be able to change anything but we might have more luck. - I don't know what to think about Robin anymore. She is the most mysterious party member. I wonder what the end result of her research is and when everyone else, especially Simon, will learn what she has been up to. The fact that the strange girl in the extra dimensional space looks eerily like a younger Robin only compounds the mystery. Another thing to note is that after her sprite change Robin looks a bit like demon Aka but has eyes like Ginasta! I wonder if this means anything. . . - Tyna is a character I really like but one I don't see as a potential harem member. The lack of RP points makes me think this is intended. When I played this section I couldn't help but think of Janine and how we are influencing Tyna's entire future with our decision. With this in mind I am setting up Kalant to be her consort but can't shake the feeling that there is a sting in the tail when it comes to our former chosen. - I think that Hester is playing Sarai and by relation Simon and co. Hester has been shown to be a shrewd old biddy in the past and I cannot believe that she is not aware of Sarai's former relation to Simon and Wendis. That old woman is a problem that will need to be dealt with one way or another, likely with violence and blood. - Although I can understand the reasons I don't agree with the soft touch Simon is taking in regards to dealing with Aram and Ardoheim. He had the right idea with the advantages of letting Zirantia fall into chaos. Letting Aram and Ardoheim (and more importantly its church) stabilize and build power only gives them a bigger stick that they can and will use to beat on everything we have built, likely at the worst possible moment. The live and let live attitude only works if the other side is willing to do the same. Aram definitely isn't and past history with Ardoheim suggests that power players there wont let us be either. Having Tyna on the throne may help with Ardoheim but then we're back to where we were in the early days with Yhilin and Janine, support of the monarch but a society that is hostile to reform and change. This is a powder-keg that I expect to blow as our interests conflict with the powers that be in these two nations. I'm half tended to replay the 3rd war and maximize Aram and Ardoheim cd while still achieving my goals. Anything to strike at these nations before the next war. - It seems odd that we don't discuss the succession with Janine at all considering her role as the monarch of Yhilin. Her position as a formerly single Queen would also provide some insight as to what we're getting Tyna into by maneuvering Tyna onto the throne. Seems like an oversight especially with how easy communication is due to magic. - I heard mention of a demon fight that Simon can take part in but I cannot find it in this update. Did I miss something or did I mishear? BUGS: - In the Ardford Business District outside of the Merchant's Guild dialogue for Simon is shown if we interact with the door next to Min. All in all a good update and I already am eager for more.

Fulminato

sierra a little detail, wynn in her archon inn room had the 'dialogue page' pre-war linked to the swich of yhilin III (1841)

Whismas

Going through the "non-combat" section of Yarra's list in the ending screen causes the game to crash with an "unable to find file" error, which may be referring to Wynne's picture.

genericname12345

Hey, Sierra, will the Mercenary Flotilla give higher profits later? From playing through the game and seeing it mentioned that Ghanth and his family were screwing over our coastal trade, was wondering if bringing it up to him would cause his family to back down.

DuckTogo

Hi! I finally got around to supporting you on Patreon (Duke Togo on Steam). I have a minor fix suggestion that might already have been added, but I don't really have a way to check this. After the big war I finally got around to buying ownership in Premium Steel and then noticed that a lot of the dialogue, specifically Robin concerning her Crystal, still assumed that the war was in the near future. It would be nice if the dialogue would change if you only got around to buying Premium Steel later. I spent most of last week playing through the entire game (only took me 80+ hours) and really enjoyed it! Keep up the good work!

Grey Wolf

Altina not showing up in Aka's route even though she is counted in the harem, I waited but talked both in camp and fortress, very broken.

DukeLeto7

Quick issue. The detailed BoY guide on the wiki says that the bonuses you get for the Yhilini and Special Supplier are +3 VP and -10 Enemy Forces. But in the current version of the game code, you also get -1 Chaos. I wanted to check with you to make sure nothing weird had happened like an old version of the code for the Battle of Yhilin somehow overwrote the canonical one before correcting the wiki guide.

what is the difference between the RTP and normal versions?

Now that i played through the release on both... "extremes" if you will, here's some thoughts. Alonon's Dominated Varia part felt really harsh compared to her Reshaped variant. Like wow. Well, Dominated Varia is kind of unsettling in general (props to you for that, btw), so while this is in line with her overall characterization, it felt as i said earlier really harsh coming from Alonon. I understand, that he is in a way in a similar situation, but still. Compare this to his "just go and find happeness". Overall political sistuation is kind of curious. Like i am not sure where all this leads to, but i think super boosting that blonde aramite guy, might help to smooth things over with Aram, if just a little bit. I am not sure if Kalant is going be a great candidate for queen's consort, but considering, how you have to give up some bonuses for him to get his best possible score, there's a great chance he will be really useful. Like there's just a lot of conditions for him. This is a little bit meta, but eh. Also, it's kind of interesting how our investments play a role in Ardonheim in general with relation to the succession. Like out flotilla, merchant guild membership and the like. And from the looks of it, my really high religion score in my best save will finally get me some perks, if the things what has been already hinted at, are any indication. Ivala provides. And i think there will be something else associated with Ivalan Bank investment and not just money.

Having have had the time to play around a bit time offer opinions First the politics... man ain't that a fine mess (not in a bad way) the whole thing just fed my paranoia Why? cause truth be told other than Antarion you barely know anything about anyone else (that includes Tina) what makes things even weirder is the fact at least for the majority of the update you have no clear goal on the matter of succession i mean what do we player/Simon and friends want to do ? Pick the most competent, friendly or weak leader ? or is it perhaps the best match for Tina ? (Shipping !) But anyways let's ignore the subplot for now and focus on the real meat of the update the chosen... boy oh boy Things really get interesting in that front not only the church did not create them they don't even know how they come to be which means that at the very least Xestris knows more than they do which along with her ability to seemingly traverse freely in the other dimension makes her very suspicious given the events that played in this update is she perhaps a possible creator or perhaps someone that can influence the system that creates them ? if so how much control does she have over the process and even is she is not does someone else ? Alonon suggested there is not all that much randomness in the world which leads me to believe someone(s) or something(s) probably is in charge of it cause given it could potentially affect anyone granting him some crazy power up it be a huge randomizer in a non random system. Also could it be that "chosenness" runs on destiny and that's why even given their power they end up dying from stupid things ? Anyways what i was getting at is... could Kalant possibly relapse ? could it be forced on him ? and was it even himself that broke free of this power ? You see ! Paranoia, paranoia everywhere ! Anyways back to the subplot man are the candidates amazing everyone's is introduced as a cliches of incompetent rulers however if you read between the lines they are all competent, far more competent than they let on. That does not nessesarily make them "good" leaders mind you, not that you nessesary want them to be good leaders i mean speaking as a (non)corrupt individual it's always easier to liberate a land than conquer it. What i am trying to say is... that was another wonderful and thought provoking update as always. Ok now for some bugs: Mestan/granny appears in the givini garden before the "candidates ellection" and talking to him will eventualy lead to the room you are using during the candidates part and the game will freeze. And something from an older update, Carina apears in the conversation in the merceneries offices even if she has not re-joined the party

Hey Sierra I need to know for certain. Robin gave herself a bust up when she went super Simon right?

When talking to Orilise about sabotaging Farnan, cancelling out of the choice chooses to sabotage instead of postponing the decision.

Minor Errata. The nun who discusses extending a blessing to Jhenno in the Ardford Cathedral appears in Ch 2.

I'm probably being incredibly stupid, but I cannot work out how to get to the new content. I've talked to pretty much every NPC I have access to, and none of them seem to have the hook that brings me into the next section. It's possible I didn't finish v32 properly, but either way I seem to have no way to progress.
