Alright, everybody, this is the post where we talk about art and TLS. It involves some pretty major decisions, so this would be a great time to give your input. I'll reference it again, but see above for another scene from Annikath, this time directly from the game.

Core Questions

Do we want TLS to have art? Though a vocal minority answers in the negative, the response from the last art post was largely positive, so the general plan is to move forward. To those who prefer to imagine the scenes themselves, rest assured that you'll have an option in the menu to disable all images.

Another major question is what kind of art. The previous picture Annikath did was in a painterly style, whereas the above is soft-shaded. We think that's the style that would probably work best for the whole game, but feel free to chime in on this. At this stage we can still change direction easily.

One substantial question is how many variants each scene would have. The end of the spectrum where every action is displayed is not possible for this project - the orgy scenes would utterly sink such an effort. The other end of the spectrum is each scene having only a single scene that captures the overall feel of it. Points in between are also possible - see the bottom of the post for examples in this case.

Finally, there's the question of how to go about the task of drawing such a massive number of scenes. On this one I have a fairly strong opinion: I think we should first do all the scenes for Chapter 1 first (~16 core scenes), then try to do a scene for each major character, then go back and start filling in other scenes. Though I think this would give the start of the game a more finished feel and hopefully get new players hooked on the characters, I'm open to reconsidering this if people have other thoughts.

Cosmetic Questions

This section is very open to everyone's opinions, so please speak up! Basically, we need to make some decisions about visual details that didn't matter before now. If there's anything you think should be addressed that isn't here, feel free to bring that up too.

1) How do people feel about body hair on the women? You'll notice I just don't talk about this in the text scenes, because I've found people have strong opinions. While it seems weird to me to imagine Aka or Hilstara taking time out to shave their legs, I know this issue tilts a lot of people.  (Regardless, succubi are naturally hairless.)

2) Extension of the above: pubic hair, same question and same reasons. I think we can and should have some variety here, but still feel free to give opinions.

3) Likewise, body hair on Simon? I'm partial to the look seen in the above image, but I suspect this one will not be very controversial.

4) Trickier question: how many scars should Simon have? While it makes sense that he'd have many, they also increase the difficulty of drawing him repeatedly. Thoughts on this?

5) Should we have Simon's body de-age in the beginning of the game? Canonically this occurs, but it isn't reflected in his faceset and I doubt too many people want to see an old dude in a bunch of scenes.

6) Changing gears entirely, there's a question of how we should approach the prologue scenes. While I am still very fond of the idea of surprising people with the prologue twist... it seems like pretty much everyone who continues playing already had people tell them about it. To that end, I am strongly considering having the prologue scenes be done in a caricatured style, with crude drawings showing the Chosen's own view of himself. If the game is promoted with the real CGs hopefully this will convince people to play past the prologue, but in any case thoughts are welcome.

Procedure Questions

Assuming we move forward with this large endeavor, there are also various secondary artistic projects. Annikath is committed to the project, but she only has so much time. Therefore, speak up about how important you feel the following are, as uses of our time.

1) How much time should be spent on SFW scenes? It wouldn't be as if huge numbers of scenes would be illustrated with SFW art, but I think some would be appropriate. Please state your general feelings on devoting time to this sort of thing.

2) Should we spend time on character references for all the main cast? I've already devoted a large block of time to making profiles for everyone so that the characters stay consistent (like Hilstara having a muscular body). Doing references for everyone would help consistency, but be a large timesuck at the very beginning.

3) Should we put effort into redrawing facesets? The extreme end of this would be to redraw many of them to make the cast look more unique, but obviously that's a ton of work, plus I suspect people are attached to the current faces. Opinions welcome in any case.

4) What about unique enemy art? There are some cases where the enemy battlers don't exactly match the facesets/sprites, and we could make those more consistent. This one would definitely not  be a huge project - most of the battlers are fine, we just have the option of making some of them unique to the game.

Variations

Here is an example of variations showing the emotional arc of the scene:

There are some slight shading differences, but that is entirely on me because I didn't notice them. Ignoring that, feel free to comment on how much or little such variations add to scenes for you. It's more work, but if it doesn't involve redrawing bodies it's not massive amounts of work.

All in all, this is something I wasn't sure would ever happen, but we're seriously discussing it now. ^-^ Since we need to lay a solid foundation for the rest of the game, please be open about any and all opinions!

ooooh boy.....you gave me an essay to write...while i hate/love it...yeah you know what, *opens a google doc* this is happening. Sorry Lee, but you will get a PM with a doc link in about an hour or so because of the length of questions as well as my answers...again sorry but now you done it

First off the bat, let me just say the art pictures (or lack of) is not what drew me into TLS, it is the world and its characters, and how we (Simon) can make a profound effect on them. While I do not mind the art, I would rather time (and money) be spent on the next chapter of TLS. That said, I prefer the art linked in this post. Cosmetic wise, strike for middle ground? Some scars but not too many on Simon. Shaved legs but with bush? I would definitely want SFW art since I like the characters more than the sex scenes itself. And I'm rather attached to the current facesets

AN

I'm ok with whatever ends up happening in regards to body/pubic hair. For the scars, I think that showing only the biggest scars is the way to go. This will be a ton of art already, and it let's people fill in the rest of his scarring. I'm think deaging is good. Because the Art will be a bit sparse, I doubt there will be too much dissonance from the difference between faceset and Art. The prologue should definitely go with a different Art style. I think it will emphasize how different the prologue is from the rest of the game. On SFW scenes, I think including them is important. To me, one of the strengths of TLS is that it's about how the world building seamlessly weaves sexuality into its core; It balances the non-sex and sexual aspects so that it feels like a real world. I think having SFW scenes reflects that. I'm partial to the current facesets. I know they may be generic, but they're already intertwined with how I remember the story.

James

First of all I like the current art style! Although is Simon's face a little too stern? Cosmetic Questions 1&2: Although I am partial to the shaved/trimmed look, whatever you believe suits the characters/ the characters mindset and preference/ the situation they are in at the time. This is because I like the game as you intended to make, not pandering to any group. 3: This level of hair for Simon is just fine! 4: Just show the important scars? I would like him heavily scarred, but not if it increases the difficulty of the art too much. 5: He is always physically fit, so would it be worth the effort? 6: I'd need an example of these scenes before I can offer an opinion, but provided it isn't too jarring, I don't foresee an issue. Procedure Questions 1: Maybe start with a few core SFW scenes? Expand upon them after the NSFW ones are done? 2: What exactly are these references? Where are they in the game? 3: I'm attached to the current faces, but it depends on how the alternates turn out. 4: Go for it!

Definitely My Name

Anything unmentioned in this comment reflects a passionate indifference. Art completion focus: Starting with chapter 1 and filling out the rest based around characters makes sense, go for it. Simon's age / Facesets / Character references: Yeah, that's a great idea(s). The age thing is really not terribly important (I didn't even know it was intended) but showing some amount of transformation as Simon acclimates would be a nice visual touch as long as it isn't terribly time consuming. Enjoyment neutral as far as the scenes go, but I think it could add some nice visual depth. Updating the faceset art takes some getting used to (I've been here for the succubi changes) but I think, like the above age thing, there's room to add subtle depth to the game with changes over the course. In particular the idea of the succubi aging during what I'm pretty sure amounts to a multi-year campaign at this point makes a tremendous deal of sense. Even if the bases aren't changed, adding this kind of adjustment would be a strict plus, again assuming the time cost is not out of whack. Regarding the references, I would submit my opinion that best quality practices here are the preferred guideline because there's pretty much no second chance. If it doesn't affect the odds of completion, I'd prefer it strongly. SFW scenes actually fall in with the character references as far as my feelings on quality over completion time. They're not essential, but the odds of a second chance, especially with matching art, are slim to none. In particular (spoiler warning I guess) things like the wedding, working on magical barriers, moments of contemplation with Talky Orc, an unsexualized group shot of the party, the barrier coming down toward the end of the war with the Incubus king, and several more scenes I'm sure I'm overlooking could all be very high value scenes with some illustration. If this kind of thing is on the table, I am absolutely on that hype train. It is possible I've misunderstood what the artist in question is down for or strongest at.

My answers to your questions are contingent upon the decision to move forward with adding artwork. I still think the game is fine without art, but concede that done properly, art can enhance the game experience. Cosmetic Questions 1) I think the characters should be depicted as they would choose for themselves. This could change from scene to scene as well. Hilstara might not take the time to shave her legs out in the field, but she is known to enjoy a relaxing bath, and might choose to do so then. Trin would buck whatever the trend is, just to be contradictory. 2) same 3) no opinion. I suspect most of the audience won't be looking at him very much. 4) Simon has a distinctive facial scar, which needs to be there; I'd suggest giving him one or two others to get the point across, but not enough to make him hard to draw 5) yes 6) I don't think that the "big secret" is very important in the grand scheme of things. Having art that exemplifies the Chosen One's inflated opinion of himself might be entertaining. Procedural Questions 1) IMO, adding SFW artwork to dramatic moments and emotionally engaging scenes is worthwhile 2) character consistency is important, else the artwork devolve into a hodgepodge that looks like it was made by different artists 3) Would this involve reinventing the look and feel of the characters? I'd say no if it does. If this is just to match the facesets to Annikath's style, but keeping the look and feel, then I'm OK with it. 4) Minimally important. If you've got the time and money and no more pressing needs, then sure.

I have to say, the above scenes do a lot to reassure me about the quality that seems to be available. They're much more appealing than some of the previous images we'd seen, in my opinion. Also, Aka abs. Oh Hell Yes. Thank you for that. I somewhat like the idea of two or three images for each scene, giving the primary beats of the progression. Given most of the image likely doesn't change, hopefully this isn't too much additional work on top of the overall image in the first place. Though even then, some of the shorter affection scenes might not even need more than one image in the first place, and the larger orgy scenes could just have a representative shot if it would be too strange to not have anything for them. I agree trying to accurately illustrate the whole thing in such cxases would be a bit too involved. Body hair, personally I have a hair-free preference. If there is hair, it should be neat, and so on. Aka's does look quite nice in these images though, but then I'm a real sucker for bright hair colours. I think one day they'll catch me violating a box of crayolas... Given this is a world that literally has sexual magic, I have to imagine there are hygiene manifestations of it. Though rationally they probably wouldn't shave, I imagine there are going to be cosmetic concessions in other areas already - for example, all the human warriors would be as ripped as Aka; Hilstara even more so, but Carina, Varia and Vhala, and possibly even Altina, though not sure if the elves would muscle as much. Uyae would be likewise. Yet I am guessing a majority of ripped women is not intended (sadly) but I'm figuring it's likely to be toned down (pun intended) to the more stereotypical softly feminine. Wouldn't complain if it wasn't, mind you. Simon seems accurate as shown, both in regards to hair and apparent age. As for scars, I think a number of prominent ones would fit but it really is dependant on ease of reproduction. Magic again serves as an answer for the lack of realism if necessary. I think a selection of SFW scenes would be as beneficial as the NSFW ones. Almost everyone I believe plays TLS for the plot, not the sex. Though the sex is very well done and a definite draw (and I'm looking forward to 'seeing' it) the rest of the game between the NSFW scenes is not there to fill that space. Also, for characters who don't have NSFW scenes for a significant length of time, showing them in SFW art earlier would possibly prevent them seeming like secondary characters by comparison. Another option would be to have art for each character's introduction, possibly the reference art. Just a full body shot, if not a posed scene. I'd be in favour of character references, consistency is very important for large projects and currently we have all the time you might need to have it be done correctly. We're all still playing without the art, so better to have the art done properly than try to get it out faster and not have it be as good as it could be, with a potentially avoidable 'off-model' issue arising over time being included in that consideration. On a selfish note, maybe patrons could get the character art to enjoy? : v I think the current facesets are fine, though if the effort it would take to differentiate them further from the RPGMaker stock assets wouldn't be too much it could be something to consider. My main request would be to have both facesets and character art be consistent. Whichever one you prefer overall, the other should match, please. I'm not too concerned with the generic mook enemies, but significant characters might want to be unique. It's really late here, so I'm hoping I haven't overlooked anything or sound too brusque. I'm actually quite taken with that Aka, she's really pretty, and pretty ripped. It's very nice. I'm now quite looking forward to more.

I like the art quality of the piece shown above and would enjoy such art included in the game. Cosmetic Questions: 1) I don't mind body hair. Except Sasquatch like thick body hair would be too much. 2) I don't have a strong preference about pubic hair, but a slight preference well groomed pubic hair. 3) The depicted look is fine. I think it makes less sense for Simon to be shaven, but I might not notice. 4) I think it might play into the rejuvenation aspect if he starts with many and the diminish with each passing chapter. However I don't know what level of complication that could add, so I'd be fine with fewer scars. 5) De-aging is fine. 6) Blurred edges/fog effect maybe. Something to show that something is up. Procedure Questions: 1) There are some significant SFW scenes that can benefit from art and they could be a missed opportunity. Maybe between 1/4 and 1/3. I think more would help the game feel more natural, but I imagine others want more lewds. 2) Having the characters with consistent looks is worth the effort. 3) While I like the existing face sets, matching the faces and art would be a boon in the long run. 4) Custom battlers would increase the finished look of the game especially if the art style is consistent. Variations: I would base the number of art variations on the number of pages of text in the scene. Final Thought: Three types of scenes should be done: Introduction, first sex scene, and significant character developments.

I know that these are still mock-ups but I think that construction is subpar. Annikath seems stuck in the no-mans-land between being true to their style and being "on model". Annikath's relatively realistic way of rendering bodies really doesn't jive with the way they're doing Aka's face here. It looks like she's wearing someone else's face. Everything I've seen from annikath is very flat and stiff. I'm not confident that they have the chops to render these characters in an exciting and dynamic way. Especially when there's as many scenes as there are in tls. I think that maybe I've missed the boat to weigh in on this but I think annikath is the wrong choice.

Core Questions Huh, haven't quite been keeping up with this issue. I'd probably fit into the minority that don't feel additional art is necessary, but I can see the way the current is going. So, I'll give some thoughts. I’d say go with the soft shaded style. It tends to make the details more subtle, which makes the larger picture more important. I prefer when the composition and larger outlines are well done than when the small details are perfect. In the case of TLS art, soft and well-proportioned figures matter more to me than anything. The picture of Altina and Simon is my favorite so far. Good figures and shading, and some details to help fill out the figures. Regarding the number of pictures. Overall, I’d recommend being conservative in filling in art. A single picture for each sex scene is less ambitious than several for more complex scenes. Getting a single meaningful piece for all scenes seems more efficient than having to stumble over providing several for the more complex scenes. Maybe after you achieve that you can really look at popular sex scenes or ones you or the artist prefer and add additional ones. As for what to do first, I’d say do a picture for each of the harem members first. They’re the real important characters you can romance, so ‘getting’ them seems the achievements which could be where we get illustrated art scenes as a reward. Although maybe not the first time you have sex with them. Megail’s scene would be better in the real reconciliation rather than the first time where she runs off afterwards, while Lynine and Orilise are sort of a package deal so the threesome scene where Simon actually ‘gets’ them would fit more than the brief scene where Simon sleeps with one. After each harem member has a piece of art, you could start filling out other sex scenes based on preference or popularity. I understand your thought to fill Chapter 1 out completely to hook new players, but as someone who is already hooked, I sort of am rooting for artwork from several favorite scenes throughout the game first. Example, I’d prefer to see the threesome scene with Nalili and Esthera (still one of my favorite scenes in the entire game) before a number of scenes in Chapter 1. So, I’d say do a piece for each major character, and then four or so additional pictures for scenes in Chapter 1. Maybe put up a poll for everyone’s favorite scenes they’d want a picture for. Then Chapter 2, etc. Finishing all the art for Chapter 1 might finish that part of the game for you, but focusing on just a few memorable scenes and working your way through the game would, in my view, allow you to focus on the highlight reel of fan favorites first. Cosmetic Questions Regarding body hair and aesthetic appeal. I prefer less. I could see some of the characters preferring otherwise, and that can give them character. I’m however influenced by my own habits and that of what girlfriends I’ve had. I trim myself less out of aesthetic as neatness, and most of my girlfriends felt the same. I like to feel well kept when I will be seen. When I don’t have a girlfriend, I’m not as careful. In the innately sexualized environment of a harem of an Incubus King, where sex is damn expected, preparation or thoughts of sex seems inevitable. I would think any such behaviors would be less about any sexual expectations, as personal preference and how they want to appear in the harem. The harem isn’t too competitive with each other, but I doubt any of the girls want to appear to be the lazy, ill-groomed one of the bunch…maybe Balia wouldn’t care. I was most studious with grooming when I had a girlfriend who was very attentive to that with herself, as even if she didn’t care I felt…lazy and ill-groomed in comparison. As for the trouble, I have difficulty imagining that there isn’t magic for that. With multiple mages in the harem, I think it wouldn’t be awkward to ask for a quick cleaning. Sexual magic seems ideal, so Yarra could be the go-to. Would save a lot of time if a quick spell can do the equivalent of a body wax in a minute with no pain. So, conclusion. I’d say in the harem, there’d be attention paid to that. I could see Hilstara or those with more sexual history as having references to refrain, but most would probably get caught up. So, most would probably go fully hairless, but Janine, Hilstara, and probably Megail leave bushes, thinking removing that is just weird. Maybe Uyae and Balia just don’t bother with it all. However, for realism, if they aren’t in the harem they can be ungroomed. I can see Aka and Hilstara to have not been groomed when they first were with Simon, but could see them then going out of their way to clean themselves up once they end up in Janine’s palace. As for Simon, a bit of chest hair. Any back hair is removed. There’s enough pubic hair so that he doesn’t look bald, but cut short enough that oral is easier. As one of my friends once told me, ‘if you expect anyone down there, you can expect that they don’t want hairs in their mouth.’ As for scars. I’d prefer quite a few minor ones, but can see the problem. So maybe two or three scars that are ket consistent across the art work. As for the de-aging question. Since Aka seemed pretty attracted to him, I always sort of imagined he was a very in shape fifty-year-old (some of them are cut!). If he did indeed de-age though throughout the game, maybe a bit of subtle changes. That might be expecting too much though…maybe combined with the scars, the artist could simply make one semi-noticeable change between Chapter 1 and 2 when there is a time gap of six months. Make Simno’s scars fade a bit, his body smoothen, etc. Or do that between every timeskip, between each chapter. Just two or three changes that you barely notice unless you compare and contrast. That might be better for the facesets alone. On one hand, I am one person who didn’t know about the prologue and it almost warned me off. Making it seem sillier might have made me think I might have stopped before I got past it and thus missed an amazing game. As someone who has already played, I love that idea. Making Simon look really old as a caricature and then show a decent looking guy afterwards could sort of play with the idea of Simon getting better looking throughout the game. Procedure Questions I’d say SFW pictures should still be valued. Plot is just as important to TLS as the sex scenes. I’d be fine if it ends up 50/50, or even favoring the SFW pictures. I’d say do light character references. Unless the artist feels confident enough to make the details truly matter in the pictures, a general idea will probably work fine. They’ll probably get a picture in their mind for each character’s appearance as she draws them. I’m attached to the current faces. I could probably get behind a few minor details changed. Full sized pictures of the characters wearing different clothes between chapters, changing hairstyles, etc. I’d probably have difficulty if you made Aka look different, but giving us more than a single picture would be appreciated. I’d love to see Janine having her hair up in a more elaborate hairstyle for formal occasions, Carina wearing a different outfit, etc. A change between chapter to show the changing of time, mainly. Maybe a few special pictures unlocked for reaching certain points with them. Same faces, just giving us some variety to show how they might dress themselves up for special occasions, battle, dates, etc. I’d like the occasional unique enemy art, but I’d say it is lower priority in my view. The battles of TLS have never been the center focus of my experience, and any roblems there are easily waved off. I think that is everything I can think of, and probably more than you wanted. Hope there’s something of value in here.

I am actually on the side that I would rather time and money be spent to continue and conclude the game rather than art. I skip most of the scenes in my multiple play through and only read it once or twice to see if there are changes to it. (speaking when the screen goes to full text mode. I would love to see more unique enemy battle spirits as most look the exact same with different names; and while that is common in many RPG's, still wouldn't mind seeing variation with it, but not a rush. Most of the characters do have a uniqueness in them as is; though some of the secondary cast could use some work.

Retromancer

1) Leg hair, please count me in as violently opposed. Underarm hair I don't care about as long as it is light 2) I really like the idea of variations in pubic hair being extensions of each girls personality. Succubi nude, naturally, Hilstarra would keep hers more bushy, I think (and Megail as well, and maybe Janine), the Elves might have a landing strip, Robin would be very neat and clean triangle geometric type of thing, etc. My specific ideas are likely bad but I like the concept. 3) Simon is fine, although in the text of the game he seems bigger, and 4) the scar running through his eye is enough of a visual cue. I don't need more than that 5) Forget prologue scenes for art until the main game is done - it takes little time to get through. Instead, nail the Rialla and Simon scene artwise. That will be the hook. 6) Simon looks old enough in this art people can look over it SFW scenes? If they are very important like a moment between Robin and Simon, Simon and Yarra etc. then yes. Emotional moments Character references? Helping consistency is better, I don't mind waiting some - and it seems you are excited about this potential development from these last posts so I have a very positive feeling about it Facesets? I would hate it at first and then just grow to like them. Enemy art mismatch? Never noticed it and don't care Variations? I was going to make a joke about many multiple art variations and a certain project... nvm. Three at most would be best, I think. Less if it calls for it

DuckTogo

Oh hai, I like this piece a lot more than the previous ones, but the art is still not for me. However, I wanted to answer some questions that were less about art and more about how to use it. Cosmetic: 2) I agree with the people casting pubic hair styles as reflections of a character's personality. 6) In my opinion this is the most important decision in this post. There's still people running around on the planet who can't tell if the prologue is serious or not and appropriate art could help them overcome their doubts. It would be difficult to just make straight up porn for this part of the game, because this certainly wouldn't improve the situation. Instead I'd suggest something like this: In the lower right we can just see the face of the girl the hero is banging (I am out of better words today). Her face is comically ecstatic - basically ahegao - the whole nine yards - exactly what you would expect from a porn game. (Exactly what you would see in some of the games I have mentioned in other comments.) However, instead of being able to see the two in the act, we see Simon and Altina behind the two. Altina is looking on with disbelief, maybe even shame, likely gripping Simon's sleeve as if she was about to jump behind him and hide. Simon on the other hand is not surprised at all, but rather... tired. Not disappointed, after all, what else could he expect? But watching it run its course, confirming his suspicions, is still draining for him. ... Or something like that. Essentially a SFW scene that focuses more on Altina and Simon, two actual main characters of the game, and how opposed they are to what is unfolding, giving a hint towards the rest of the game. As you can tell, I think this is a great idea, so please ignore it. :D Procedure: 1) Eh? You hired an artist for a lewd game and you want to spend time drawing non-lewd things? Shame on you. To be more serious, I think some major plot points, like the ends of certain arcs, e.g. Simon's 'abduction', should get art pieces. The focus should nonetheless be on the sex scenes. 2) Character References are invaluable. This is especially true for a project which will likely get a different artist at some point. BUT: I personally don't like the artist and I am not convinced other artists will find her references useful. Additionally there are just an absolute boatload of characters. It would take ages to make all the needed references just for the harem. Your plan of finishing Act 1 (and the Prologue) first seems more reasonable than spending time on references. 3) I think you should spend some time redrawing the faces of side characters. On one hand, I just think some portraits for side characters look incredibly cheap compared to the rest of the game and on the other it will make for better screenshots, which show the effort that goes into the game a bit more. Characters which would be convenient for this would be major plot characters that have barely appeared yet and some of the important characters in self-contained scenarios, like the succubus that tends to your room in the meeting of the kings. Of course, giving the next harem addition original art would be nice as well. 4) Maybe some art for the orc battles at the meeting of the kings would be nice, but I don't think this is terribly important or helpful. That's me. You already have a lot to read, so I feel for you, but I felt I had some things to say. Have a nice day!

This is exciting! Here's my thoughts, simple as they are: Core Questions Yes to art. I like both of the styles we've seen, but I do agree that it would probably be best to pick one and stick with it. Maybe the SFW scenes could be done in the painterly style, and the NSFW in the soft-shaded? Just a thought. Cosmetic Questions 1) Prefer less hair in general. 2) No pubic hair at all would be weird though. 3) Simon's body hair is fine as demonstrated. 4) Just one or two major scars, best to cut down on a timesink, but it would be weird for him only to have the facial scar. 5) If this means aging him up for the first part then don't. I don't feel like the game significantly misses out by a little technical inaccuracy. Specifically this one. 6) I agree that a different art style would be better, but I also like the suggestion I saw that these don't matter as much as the first Riala/Simon scene in the prologue. Procedure Questions 1) I heartily approve of the concept of SFW scenes. As others have mentioned, it's all about the characters anyway. I honestly wouldn't mind if there were more SFW than NSFW art. 2) Character references sound like a good idea. An investment in making sure the art stays consistent, and that's the goal, right? 3) I think redrawing facesets is a bad idea. It would be like coming home to find that someone replaced your sibling, but everyone else doesn't notice. Jarring and eerie. 4) Updating some of the enemy art would be cool though. It would make the game's world seem a little wider. Edit: I think I misunderstood this one. Anyway, insofar as it makes the game more consistent, I see it as a good thing. Variations I see someone watching in the corner...Yeah, I think variations insofar as they are feasible are a good idea. I think even the minimalist style demonstrated would be great. It would be weird to look at a smiling Simon while reading about him being conflicted about having sex with Aka, so the variation there is important. Likewise for other scenes. I hope this continues to work out! Starting out with the 1st chapter strikes me as a good way to start things off, and I'm excited to see things develop. Thanks for involving us in this process!

Innocuous

So, first. About the public response to art. I'm in the indifferent to mild-positive on adding art, but reading through this post made me a little worried. I think you see a lot of people positive about art because it's a solely additive question: do you want more stuff? Of course most people will say yes. I worry, as I imagine others who are more hesitant about art, because I've seen this type of feature creep bog down or even end projects bigger than TLS. What's the logistics of art delivery? TLS has, what, over 100 scenes? If Annikath can deliver, say, 3-6 scenes per month, you're still looking at several years of continuous development to create these art assets. What happens if Annikath becomes unable to continue to support this project part way through this cycle? Do you get another artist to try and match styles? Do you accept different art styles for different scenes throughout the game? Do you leave art assets as is for the scenes they were made for, while the rest of the scenes remain text only? Do you pull them out so the art is consistent throughout the game? I didn't mean this to sound as pessimistic as it does, but art is very often the biggest bottleneck for these types of projects. I think you've cultivated an audience for TLS interested in your storytelling and world building, I know that's why I'm here, and I would not want those to be held back or slowed down purely for added visual aesthetic. In short, I'd prefer to see what happens next in TLS rather than what the visuals look like. All that said, I still want to be optimistic about art, and I do have faith in your ability to manage projects and deliver content. If you think this is a good idea moving forward I trust your judgement. I would prefer to see art added first for the game's most critical scenes rather than just all stacked on Chapter 1. In conjunction with my concerns above, I think this approach would 'scale' better if your artist situation changes down the line. I would also prefer some effort to SFW scenes, in particular I'm thinking the meeting of Janine/Riala/Sarai/Simon at the end of Chapter 1, Simon's return in Chapter 2, the Doom King takes the Yhilin throne in Chapter 3, the end of the Incubus emperor. Actually, even though those are not specifically sex scenes they could be NSFW images. Also, whatever you do please do not skimp on the prologue. I first played TLS not knowing, and watching the prologue play out is absolutely what sold me on giving the game my attention. I am okay with it being caricature or heavily stylized, so long as it does not look cheap or ugly (or, in other words, as long as the prologue is not devalued to devote more time on other scenes in the game 'proper'). I think the game needs to sell the idea that the player will play as Kai, right until the rug is pulled under from them, for it to have maximum effect. The prologue is very important for setting tone of the story and expectations of the player, and the art should help convey that. Assorted other questions. Hair on women? I had to come to terms with Robin being added to the harem despite personally finding it distasteful. Point is, not everyone gets what they want all the time. I would prefer to see hair for women when it makes sense for their character. I think it's better to have variety and have appearances that work with and make sense for the character, rather than trying to conform to a single visual at the expense of the characterization of the characters. Scars on Simon? I would give him three scars (not counting the one on his face). A cut or gash over his heart, a burn mark or arrow wound in his back, and a cut on his left side that wraps around from his stomach to his back. This would mean you would always see at least 2 scars if Simon is drawn on front or back, which conveys the characterization without being overly complex to draw. Facesets? Not worth the effort unless you can bring a second artist for it. There's nothing wrong with the current face sets. Plus if you remade Simon's faceset it would (presumably) no longer be a variant of the generic RPG maker faceset, which is part of the appeal of Simon's face set in the first place. Enemy art? Also not worth the effort, at least at this time. Focus on the other art assets, because those will be the ones with the biggest impact and the most memorable.

Handsome Stalin

Alright, here we go Core questions - Do I want TLS to have art? Yes - What kind of art? Definitely agree on soft-shaded. - How many variants? Example at the bottom seems just enough to me. - How to go about it? I like your laid out plan Cosmetic questions 1) Body hair I'd need to see Annikath's attempt at it before passing a judgement, but I'm against. At least from what I've seen in art it never comes out looking right. But I don't have any strong opinions against it's inclusion. I would like it if it varied based on race, so maybe dwarves are significantly hairier than others. As a sidenote, a question that popped up while I was thinking about this: Do your halflings have Tolkien feet? Does Sarai have two more carpets to match the drapes? 2) Pubic hair No strong feelings here, I think a large variety would be the route to take. 3) Simon hair I'm similarly partial to the above. 4) Simon scars I think just one or two prominent scars under his clothes would be enough to signify he has battle experience and too many scars tend to look goofy anyway. Maybe two in front and two in back so it shows from both sides. 5) De-aging I'm actually a big fan of this one just to show his power has effects on him. I'd be fine with seeing his droopy old-man nutsack in a few scenes in exchange. 6) Prologue I really like this idea. I actually think something like that would convince more people without context to finish the prologue, if the scenes are obviously tounge-in-cheek. Procedure questions 1) SFW scenes I'd be fine if significant time was devoted to these. 2) Character references I'm all for spending significant time on these. Outside of helping consistency, I think it would be great to know how exactly various characters compare in terms of physicall proportions and features. 3) Redrawing facesets Eh, I'm fine with how they are now. Do you have any that you'd want redrawn/altered? 4) Enemy art I'm all for this, even if doing so would delay scene art.

Blue Dragon

Here are my thoughts. I'm going to steal Handsome Stalin's organization though, even though it accidentally posted before I was ready. Edited as a result. - Do I want TLS to have art? Neutral, shading to negative. I'm not sure what we've seen would work. - What kind of art? I think soft-shaded is best. - How many variants? I like the variants on the bottom so far as number/variety. - How to go about it? I think if art is added, the plan would be the way to do. Cosmetic questions 1) Body hair No strong opinions on body hair, provided it looks right. 2) Pubic hair I think a variety which matches the characters' personalities would make the most sense. 3) Simon hair I have no strong feelings here. 4) Simon scars I'd rather see the number of scars change over the course of the game -- so a relatively large number in the beginning, then gradually fewer until we only have a couple of big ones as his power changes him. 5) De-aging I think de-aging is appropriate, because it follows the plot. 6) Prologue I also really like this idea, although I'm not sure the caricatured style works. Procedure questions 1) SFW scenes I'm almost more interested in these, honestly. 2) Character references This sounds great! 3) Redrawing facesets I like the current batch. 4) Enemy art I don't have any strong opinions on this. That said, I'm still generally against art, and haven't necessarily thought Annikath's art fit thus far. I'll echo the comment earlier about it seeming stiff and the faces looking off, but what bugs me about these pictures is the angle -- Aka and the ground seem to be at a tilt (presumably to show off her *ahem* assets), whereas Simon is not. It's rather jarring.

Here is my best go at getting my opinions across; Yes to art. The soft-shaded art definitely suits the style of the game better and just feels cleaner. 1 - 3 images depending on the scene Your scene plan sounds good for now but multiple choice polls would be great down the line a bit. De-age him a little but not too much (no more grey hairs.ect) Females: Absolutely no leg or armpit hair and preferably no pubic hair or at least neatly trimmed and subtle. (no hair can easily be explained by a little bit of magic) Simon: the facial hair and pubic hair shown here are fine, a bit of chest hair wouldn't be too bad either, but same as the pubic hair it needs to be neat and subtle and definitely no back or ass hair. Only major/important scars to help with drawing as well as the fact that magic could easily remove all scars when it heals/rejuvenates him but he would want to keep his major/important scars for sentimental reasons. De-age him a little but not too much (no more grey hairs.ect) I think changing the art for the prologue is ok as long as it's not too stupid/different/cartoonish. Definitely, SFW images, if anything I would prefer that SFW images for things like important places and events take precedence over NSFW images. Definitely, do character references please as it will help a lot with consistency and allow patrons to provide feedback until everyone is happy. Please keep the current facesets the same but minor tweaks are ok if necessary to keep art and facesets similar. Feel free to improve the enemies facesets and do unique enemy art. Also if Annikath can make sure her work is pretty close to the existing facesets and there are no ridiculously large breasts/features that would be great. Sorry if any of this isn't explained enough or is difficult to understand. PS: I think Simon's ass is too flat in this image, guys can have muscular booty too ;)

Core questions: - I don't want scene art, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. - I'd prefer something that matches the existing style, but I've been annoyed by style mismatches since the first Starcraft came out 21 years ago. - I don't really care about the number of slides per scene as long as it doesn't eat into your creative effort. - I don't have any strong opinion on the ordering of scenes to be drawn. Cosmetic questions: - I won't be surprised if Balia and Uyae have substantial body hair. TLS is not a one-hand game, so I wouldn't be too worried about including it or not. - Pubic hair is fine for some variety, I don't have any strong opinions. - Again, no issues with body hair on Simon. - Scars: as much as your artist can handle repeatedly. Have a few conspicuous ones, at least. - Older guys can still look like Gianluca Vacchi, I wouldn't be too worried about very visible aging. - If you can get the artist who drew the scenes for Ouroboros to do the prologue, I'd say their style would be a perfect fit. Procedure questions: - I don't care about spending time on SFW scenes as long as it doesn't eat into your time. - Character references are a must, in my opinion. - New facesets? I'm VERY attached to the current facesets for the main cast (except Elleani, of course), but some of the generic faces could use a redraw if Annikath can replicate the style. - Unique enemy art is something I would welcome much more than full screen scenes, to be honest.

I don't have strong opinions on the questions, but I'll chime in anyways. Yes to art, definitely. It's good enough and the game will be more popular with it, text only is kind of hardcore nowadays. The soft shaded style looks nice. I have one issue with Annikath's pics so far however: the soft smiles during sex. I'd expect more passionate expressions, lovingly smiling at each other belongs to the afterglow shot. Or should I say, it's okay for Janine, but Aka there was being consumed by lust, she should look more excited and wild. To all the questions re: how many this and include that... if you have Annikath exclusively, squeeze as much as you can out of her. Absolutely minmax her. :) Whatever seems to be the upper realistic limit. The first item to leave out would be facesets, imo - we're used to the main chars looking this way, maybe redraw some of the cruder looking NPCs only? Cosmetics: No to hair on women except neatly trimmed patches. It's magical reality, not 17th century Europe, it can be a part of the heal spells for example. As for Simon, I don't feel qualified to comment on the daddy avatar fantasy, so go wild. Slight deaging for plot purposes is good though. Love the prologue idea, but don't go overboard with the cartoonishness. Maybe exaggerated anime style works as well?

Runcible Technician

Core Questions: - Yes to art in general, SFW or NSFW, a picture tells a thousand words. - Soft Shaded is fine, matches the rest of the custom art so far. - No animations on this AAA budget? Lol, seriously most games with porn have like 3 pics for the entire scene. - First chapters are important, sounds like a plan. Cosmetic Questions: - It's a fantasy story, I imagine people could use magic to shave, but why would fighters bother? Maybe a succubus does it for them? I have no strong opinion. - Lol, lady gardening? I'm imagining Varia with an intricate skull and crossbones pattern. Seriously though, anything is fine in my opinion, but I am laughing at the thought of distinctive sculpting. It's like telling characters in anime apart by the crazy hair. - Why would Conan the Barbarian shave his chest? Why would he oil himself up? We know all know why, and it's okay if Simon does too. - This one I actually think is interesting. The text repeatedly says he has many scars. I know it would be tough on the artist, but I think they should be there. Gutz in Berserk had them, and that was awesome. - This reminds me of anime too, old guys that are a threat in combat are always sexy/ripped. This should be easy to sell to an audience. Most scenes talk about how muscly Simon is. - Pencil line sketch, like a wall mural or a drawing in a book. It's a decent way to open or close a tale too. The best example I can think of is the opening of Record of Lodoss War when they talk about Kardis, goddess of destruction. Procedure: -SFW scenes should just be at the big moments in the story, especially at particularly dramatic character moments or an important blurb of exposition or time jump. I would love to have scenes for little things like Simon and Uyea at market, but the game is enormous. -This is an important question, specifically because of a common mechanic in the game, Yarra's disguises. I had trouble telling Simon as Darguy apart from scenes of Simon as Simon because there was no difference in chipset or character image. It was hard to understand certain characters interactions with him as a result. Some character images when talking would be awesome. - I would love the entire game to have a unified art style with everything on model, but that would take a fortune and a million years. Stick with the current portraits, they are actually very good. - More enemies as interesting looking as the Succubus Mass would be awesome. Actually, on that note, there is something off about Yarra's battler image. Maybe it's the placement on the screen or the angle of the image, but it definitely doesn't match the style of the rest of the game. The last three images for a whole scene is fine by me.

Decanter

Comments on the Piece Annikath seems to show ongoing improvement, which is encouraging. For this picture my concern is that Simon's eyes never seem to show tenderness, so that his smiles look a bit smug rather than caring. I think this is less the case when we view the picture in full resolution and can see more detail, but we (quite unfortunately) won't have full resolution in-game, so it may be necessary to exaggerate the differences in Simon's expression here. Possibly the eyebrows in particular? Also, flipping between them, there are significant differences in coloration/style between pictures. Aka's face, nipples, and genital area are the main ones. I expect this is partly an artifact of the latter two being unfinished? In this case low resolution works in our favor and makes it less noticeable, however. The firelight is good, and I like the detail of Yarra peeking out at the end, which is appropriately subtle in reduced resolution. Core Questions Yes to art for TLS. I generally agree that this soft-shaded style seems better. I feel it would be nice for major shifts in the emotion to be represented with a variant, and hopefully it's not onerous to do variants like the example here. Major shifts in the action of a scene would be nice to acknowledge sometimes too, but I recognize it's impractical to have a totally new image each time a scene shifts (for example) from oral to intercourse. I would hope that, outside of the orgy-type scenes, art tries to incorporate all participants, or at least all female participants in the case of Simon threesomes. Annikath seems to be steadily improving, so I would actually propose deferring art for early game so that it gets the best art possible, and maybe do art for new sections in the meantime. Play the long game, y'know? Cosmetic Questions 1) Strong preference for no body hair, save on Zirantians as appropriate. I agree it would be odd for Aka and Hilstara to take time to shave, but it's also odd for Aka to be that agile with tits that big... or really a ton of other things about the setting that are odder when you think about it than "people are generally less hairy than in our world, which also has completely different fundamental physics btw". Actually, I question the assumption that people in this world (including Aka and Hilstara) have body hair worth shaving in general - we have no reason to think they evolved from apelike precursor animals that ate lice out of each other's fur, and they've all got innate magic that could serve instead, and they all seem to have discovered the advanced tech known as "clothing". Most our cast in particular are from Arclent, which seems to range from temperate to hot. Also, would rather not have Annikath spend time on body hair. Lotta catching up to do, lotta CGs to make. Aka is actually a kind of bad example, come to think - there are people in our world who have such fine blond body hair that it's nigh-invisible, so having naturally unpigmented hair might be even more extreme in effect than that. 2) It is probably unsurprising that I'm not a fan of big unruly bush, but I agree some variation by character seems appropriate. 3) Reasonable to have body hair on Simon, but again I think we could go with "people are generally less hairy in this world" and do it as seen above with just a bit in some places. Please no back/neck/ass hair, if nothing else. 4) This also seems like a thing I wouldn't want the artist to have to keep bothering with. But here's a possible compromise - most scars vanish as Simon de-ages, eventually leaving just the face scar that he probably has ingrained into his self-concept by now. 5) Yeah do it. Simon's canon age of 55ish is a little past what most people, even those into DILFs, would want realistically portrayed. Or so I expect. Heck, if you want it reflected in his faceset it wouldn't be *that* hard to clean up some of the age lines in it... 6) I don't have a strong opinion on this, but what you propose seems sensible. The more dissonant the prologue seems with the promotional materials, the more likely people realize something's up and keep going, is that the idea? I could see it working. There are other chances to have sexy scenes of random succubi and lamias. Procedure Questions 1) I feel some art could definitely enhance certain SFW scenes, and am willing to leave it entirely to your discretion. After all, it's not like most of us are playing this game solely for the NSFW parts, so why take a different approach with this aspect? I assume there would be a future thread for suggestions about this. 2) Consistency is important, I feel. Plus, if there's an issue with one of the portrayals, better to catch it before scenes are drawn. However, you are correct about it being a timesuck, and I would not protest if you decided against this. I do think we've gotten used to going without art and a little more time without isn't that big a deal. 3) I do not think this is a great use of time. The existing assets are fine, and changing them means potentially making dissonant any dialogue accompanying the changed face. Tweaks here and there yes, redrawing entirely no. I could perhaps see making an exception for anyone stylistically inconsistent with others... the only one I can think of for this would be Elleani. Having Annikath draw some new faces when you don't have assets you like for a purpose might be worthwhile, though. 4) It's a good idea, especially in the early game for the sake of first impressions. Would be happy to go through the enemy list and suggest possibilities. Tangentially, that reminds me, how come we're using the Stineford succubus facesets for Withered Mountain instead of the standard ones that don't look as weird?

Eldritchreality

I know this may be an odd thing to be hung up on, but I swear I'm trying to be constructive. It's about clothing, the thing that stands out for me in the picture in this post (after Aka's blush ///>_<///) is that Simon is wearing a stretch-fabric t-shirt. That just felt super odd to me. On all other points, I'm pro-art. On body hair, I'd actually like to see a variety on each character as they move in and out of civilisation. E.g. I can't see Aka shaving her legs in chapter 1. But I can see some of her approach to her femininity changing as she gets closer to Yarra and Qum. I don't think she'd do it all the time or when it would be a pain, but maybe sometimes experiment with it during the political sections. I am definitely attached to Simon's current faceset, because of ridiculously expressive they are, but the others are definitely still up for grabs.

Core: Yes, I'm in the pro art camp. Disable art option seems like a reasonable approach. Soft shaded seems like a better fit for the tone of the game. One image per scene seems like a reasonable start, with additional / variant images added in later as you deem fit. Doing chapter 1 first seems like a good call. Though I'd suggest you share those images with patrons since frankly I don't see myself replaying that chapter just to see the art. And you should get as much feedback as you can in the early stages. Cosmetic: 1) Not a deal breaker for me, but I'd prefer to avoid body hair. I get the realism angle on this, but I doubt this detail will break the immersion for anyone, 2) Regarding bush: Variety is the spice of life. 3) Regarding Simons body hair, I really don't care. Whichever is easier for the artist. 4) I take the one big scar as representative of many others, so I don't think there's an actual need to draw them. This may vary depending on the zoom level of the image. An extreme close up may be the right place to add some extra visible scars. 5) I think the right move here is to have simon de age a little, in the small details only. A lock of gray hair, an extra crinkle in the forehead, even something as simple as a more tired expression for the initial images. We don't need a full grampa to hunk transformation here. 6) Having a distinct art style for the begining sequence sounds like a great idea! It's another way to "sell" the perspective shift. It doesn't have to be crude drawings, just different from the promo art to clue in observant players. Procedure: 1) The occasional SFW image would be a nice surprise, but I doubt that's a priority at this point. 2) A clear yes to spending the time to work on references. This is a minor price to pay for increased consistency and production speed later on. 3) I like the current face set. I'd probably like a new set too once I'm used to it. But since the current one is nice already, I doubt it should be a priority. 4) unique battlers are again under the title of nice to have but not a priority. I'm excited to see art in TLS, really, any art at this point. Would make recommending it to others that much easier. And now we pray that the Patreon gods won't swallow this message.

Shading style: I think the style in the new Aka scene works well in terms of being consistent with the faceset/bust images without sacrificing any quality, but to be honest I'd also be perfectly happy with the shading in the Qum/Hilstara scene. Variants: I would worry about the complexity of having lots of variants, just purely in terms of the amount of work involved. It would be very easy at this point to bite off more than can be chewed, and set unrealistic expectations in so doing. Perhaps scene variations could be planned, but left until the end of the process, so they don't get in the way of the core goal. That would also tie in with a second pass where any inconsistencies in the earlier work could be tightened up once Annikath has hit her stride. I guess the only caveat there would be whether Annikath would prefer to fully complete scenes in one go, rather than going back and revisiting them later. Ordering: I would recommend initially focusing on the core scenes which you really want illustrated, and slowly fanning out to the less important ones. That way, once you've got the core scenes done, you have a finished product of sorts, even if things don't work out down the line for whatever reason. After that point, it's a case of broadening and improving what you've already achieved, for as long as time, money and commitment allow. I don't think it makes sense to go chapter by chapter, because it'd be a nightmare to have chapters 1-3 fully complete, only for unforeseen circumstances to get in the way of doing chapters 4-5. You might consider going through the story and putting each potential scene into categories, then working down the tiers in decreasing order of importance. Something like "If this scene isn't illustrated, there's no point in doing illustrations at all" -> "This is an important scene but not critical to the core story" -> "This is important for character development, but not plot" -> "This will be a crowd pleaser, but not particularly important", and so on. After you complete each tier, you have something that you could be happy with releasing, with increasing amounts of happiness as you go. Cosmetic questions: 1) Given the in-game resolution, I don't think there's much point in even trying to show leg hair on the women, since it would tend to be more subtle than you'd see on a man, even if left untrimmed. I suspect this is a case where aesthetics may trump realism, and I like the idea of having a conversation about magical epillation. Some tidy underarm hair would maybe be thematic for the fighters, since they're going to want to be able to sweat efficiently (since hair increases the available surface area for the sweat to evaporate). 2) I agree that variety is probably good for pubic hair, though again, I don't think that modern sensibilities are going to allow for big bushes. This would be a good way to get the sort of differentiation between races/characters that you mentioned. 3) I would expect Simon to have a bit of body hair on his chest, legs and forearms, but not excessive amounts. This might be an opportunity for the shard to develop his body a bit. I can imagine a scene where Aka says something like "I've been meaning to ask - have you started shaving? You used to have more hair than this." and Simon replies that he's noticed the same thing, but it's been a gradual change over time, which prompts Yarra to start teasing him about how the shard is turning him into a succubus. 4) Simon should have as many scars as he has sustained significant injuries in the past - only you know how many that is :-P. I would imagine having at least one on the upper part of his shield arm would make sense, since it's probably the most likely place for an injury, and it's in a visible location where a scar wouldn't be unattractive. The chest would be another obvious location, since it's the typical target area for arrows and sword thrusts. 5) Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are roughly Simon's age, so it's perfectly reasonable for Simon to look similarly well-preserved, given his lifetime of keeping himself in fighting shape. That being said, I think it makes sense to de-age Simon a little, given that it's explicitly called out in the story and he's not exactly the kind of guy who'd use hair dye to mask the onset of the salt-and-pepper look. I would do it subtly, mainly through hair colouring and the receding of minor scars (though not the one on his face, since it's part of his mental self-image). I'd hope that adding a bit of salt and pepper in the hair wouldn't be too hard, and fading scars out would make life easier as time goes on. If it's not too much of a nightmare coding-wise, you could maybe reinforce it by changing the hair colouring in his facesets between chapters 1, 2 and 3, since the chapter breaks represent a significant amount of elapsed time. 6) I like the idea of doing the prologue in a totally different style; it'd really make the switch to Simon's perspective hit home. You could even use a different artist entirely if Annikath isn't keen to do it. You might also consider the idea of the prologue scenes being softcore, to emphasise the point that they're not the real deal. I definitely think you should be aiming for people to know TLS's true nature before they start, so that when they hit the prologue, they know it's not representative (that was my intention with the trailer, anyway). In effect, the prologue itself is the twist, with the "this story isn't about you" bit being the point where the player grins and thinks "ah, here we go" to themselves. Other: Aka's right thigh looks way too big to me, and I've noticed similar issues in some of the other illustrations (e.g. the one with the orc and the elf). I dunno if that's just a feature of Annikath's art style, but it's the only thing I've found really jarring from what I've seen so far. Procedure questions: 1) Time should be spent on scenes in proportion to their importance to the plot and the characters, regardless of whether any particular scene is sexual in nature. This game is not mere porn, and I strongly feel that the art should reflect that. The tricky bit will be deciding which scenes merit flipping from the map and sprites to an illustrated scene, since it's only really the sex scenes which aren't currently depicted using the game itself. 2) I think it would be worth doing things right with references, especially since there's a lot of room for interpretation in how the characters translate from the faceset/bust images. It would be better to thrash out those details first so that you're not constantly asking Annikath to change things in the finished scenes. A good example of this would be Hilstara's upper-body sizing relative to Simon in the earlier scene with Qum - it would involve a lot of redrawing to get that right, so better to get it nailed down beforehand. 3) I think it would be jarring to change the facesets of any of the core characters at this point, beyond minor cosmetic tweaks. I'd be more interested in filling out any missing bust images, particularly Simon (both before and after getting his Shadowweave outfit), and replacing any NPC faces which are derivations of core characters (e.g. there are a few Simon clones around, like the guy in the bar in Feroholm). I'm not sure if that needs to be a job for Annikath, or if her load could be lessened by someone else who could match the faceset/bust styles? 4) I agree that it would be good to address any inconsistencies between enemy sprites/facesets/battlers, and to have unique battlers for any major enemies which are missing them. However, from a gameplay perspective, I think the most important improvement in this area would be to ensure that each enemy mob has a proper representative sprite, rather than a "unspecified bad things ahead" sprite (e.g. the red/blue floating flames). It's easier to know who to take into a fight if the sprite gives you an indication of what you'll be facing. Scene variations: 1) I'm imagining that's Aka feeling self-conscious and overwhelmed by the corruption, but to me, she looks scared and Simon looks too severe. I would instead imagine them both looking uncertainly at each other. I'd be concerned that it might look rapey to the untrained eye, especially with Aka's gritted teeth and the downturn on Simon's mouth. 2) I like the expressions in this one, it looks like they're connecting and getting into it. 3) This works well as an illustration of the post-coital bliss, and I really like the subtle silhouette of Yarra. If it doesn't take too much extra time, I think it would make the scenes feel much more alive to have this kind of progression, since it opens up more possibilities to show the emotions of the characters. That's going to be a lot more difficult in scenes where the characters are changing positions, though. As I mentioned previously, I think this is the sort of thing that might be best left to a refinement pass later, once you've managed to get through the core work of creating at least one image for all the scenes you want.

Body hair (of everyone): Fine with it. Scars: As several people suggested, a couple of big ones should do, with the other handwaved as only being visible from up close. De-age: That may be interesting both art-wise (a different take on the same character) and narration-wise (visual cues of Simon slow acceptance of the shard). Prologue: Okay with the idea of delusional CGs in an utterly different art style, though finding the right balance to subtly suggest parody will probably prove quite difficult. SFW: I'm totally biased in favor of as many SFW scenes as possible. Characters' reference sheet: Probably worth the initial investment in the long term, and this is a long-term project. New facesets and enemy art: Not a priority I would say.

No Escaping Destiny

That is a lot of questions but here goes. Core Questions 1.Yes I would like art and the option to turn it off sounds wonderful. 2.The soft shaded would be good for many scenes but the other would be good for the scenes that are more fun, like Qum hopping onto everyone. 3.The number of pictures per scene should probably start with just one per scene and add extras for when the scene adds characters suddenly or the tone shifts. 4.I agree with having the major scenes in chapter one done first then doing individual scenes like you say. Cosmetic Questions 1. I personally like shaved or small tufts and think its one area realism should be ignored if for no other reason than it adding to the complexity of the drawing. I can see completely shaved or hairy bothering people so maybe just a small bush as a compromise? 2.Certainly have some variety, maybe the hair shaped like a S for cock-whore Altina or something like that. 3. Hair on Simons arms looks good but not much on his chest. The previous hair on his chest looked so funny it made me laugh (not being mean, it was my honest reaction). 4. Don't give him as many scars as Geralt but maybe one big one across his back and some on his arms. 5. I did not realize Simon's face de-aged so I think it would be a good idea to have a 50 year old Simon in the first scene with Aka and Riala but then de-age him. 6. I like the idea of having the chosen's scenes be drawn in a rose tinted glasses type style, I can just see the sparkly anime background. Procedure Questions 1. I think SFW art should only be used for scenes that are emotionally memorable that you found hard to convey with words. 2. 100% spend time for character refrences, sweet god please spend that time. Many other NSFW games I have played did not have consistent character art and it made recognizing who the characters where hard unless explicitly stated, which defeats the purpose of the art. 3. The only face set that I would re-draw is Aka's second form because it is hard for me to visually tell the difference. That may just be me though. 4. If you have the time at the end to match the enemy character sprites then go for it because that sounds like a polishing stage of game development.

I can't really commit on hair question since it doesn't matter much to me either way (except Uyae she needs to be smooth shaven. Smooth as a baby bottom) But I think the idea to make the prologue feature more comical art from the choosen's perspective can be a really cool idea to work with. Sort of like you did with "Liz Vision" in CG2 you can have him perceive all the females as hyper sexualized versions of themselves. Like drawing Altina with tits down to her ankles, or the succubus loving his cock while in reality they are sort of 'meh.' For Simon there could be cartoon stink lines drawn on him, or even have him be the sort of grey faceless blob shadow most 3D games have when they don't want to take the time to render male characters. Sort of showing how anything without a vagina sort of just fades to the back of the choosen's mind.

Too many scars is a sign of not knowing how to dodge or block.

>Do we want TLS to have art? Yes! Obviously the game works without art, or we wouldn't all be here commenting on it, but I do think it would be very beneficial. >Another major question is what kind of art. I agree that this shading style is a good choice. >One substantial question is how many variants each scene would have. I think this depends on the particular scene. In the Aka example here, the changes in her expression are important to the feel of the scene. A lot of scenes would be just fine with only one static image though. >Finally, there's the question of how to go about the task of drawing such a massive number of scenes. Before I suggested spacing out the early art, but only out of fear that fully illustrating the game might prove too big a project. If you're confident it will all get done eventually, starting with the art for the first chapter makes sense. Cosmetic Questions 1) I think a bit of visible leg hair and such on some of the women would be fine, as long as it isn't too pronounce. 2) Have a variety of pubic hair. It would make sense that they don't all groom the same way, and it makes sure different player's preferences are all catered too. 3) Simon level of hairiness in this art looks good. 4) Don't have a strong opinion on this. Maybe after he gains the shard, most of them heal? It would make sense that the one on his face stays, because it's part of his self-image from seeing it in the mirror every day. Perhaps one or two others that have significance to him also stay. There could be a conversation about it at some point. 5) Maybe his face didn't change much, but the rest of his body rejuvenated to his prime? 6) I like the idea of art in the prologue being in chosen-vision. I'm imaging something like Rob Liefeld's style. With Kai looked excessively muscled and square jawed, and the succubi having huge boobs and wide hips with absurdly tiny waists. Maybe an even greater exaggeration during his delusion of overcoming the succubi with the power of his dick. Then switch to the game's actual art style to show what really happened. Procedure Questions 1) I'm in favor of having a good amount of non-sex art. I'd actually love a few “slice of life” scenes with the harem members just hanging out or having dinner together. Of course you can also have scenes that aren't sex but are still NSFW. Like post-sex cuddling, or anything with Qum. She's always NSFW no matter how innocent her current activities. 2) It's probably a good idea to take the time to establish consistent character models up front. Plus some full body portraits of each character would by nice to have for its own sake. 3) At this point any serious changes to the main character's faces would probably make them not look right to fans. Though I would recommend removing the face Simon is based on from the game. It's a little weird when you talk to a minor NPC who looks like Simon's sandy haired twin. 4) I wouldn't consider this a high priority, but it certainly wouldn't be unwelcome.

If arranging to have art created for the game (and all the issues, concerns, costs, etc involved in that) is a thing you can do and there's an option to turn it off, I can't possibly imagine that being a downside or a negative in any way. Core + Process: Just a brief comment on the off-chance that no one has mentioned it and you haven't thought of it yourself. Create a list of all the scenes in your game that you might want to give some art and then sort and order that list so that the scenes that are most important to the story, the characters, and most important to you are at the top and the things least important are at the bottom. Then you can go down that list and say these things at the top should get more pictures, more variations, more time, more detail and these things at the bottom should get less if any at all. It'll also give you a good way to determine where to make cuts and where to take shortcuts if you need or want to. That list also doesn't need to be limited to just scenes other places or things you think about adding art to can go in it as well. Cosmetics: You are never going to make everyone happy with every character. You are never even going to make everyone who has a particular character as their favorite happy with their favorite character. Listening to your fans and supporters opinions about the characters and their cosmetics is great, but don't stress too much about meeting *everyone's* hopes and don't feel like you need to go with the majority vote. In terms of the specific cosmetic things like hair or no hair or shaved legs or not, just have a mix. Some characters some way, other characters others. You also don't necessarily have to lean into the hair for example. It won't meet everyone's tastes but you can have hairy characters that are something of a middle ground where there's definitely hair there but it's not all that significant. That said I also agree with what I saw someone else say above as I skimmed the comments, this is a magical fantasy world. If you feel like having all the characters be completely hairless for any reason at all that's entirely fine.

As a few have said above perhaps have some of his scars play into his 'deaging' process. So in the initial scene with Riala go all out showing dozens of sword scars, magical burns, monster bite marks, covering Simon's body. Really go to show he has been fighting a losing battle for 40 years now and is really beaten down. Then post shard have his body start to heal itself cleaning up most of the scars (save his iconic eye scar of course) Maybe add a bit extra dialogue so the audience knows the scar loss isn't a continuity error in the art and a deliberate choice. Simon could even talk about how his scared eye isn't blurry any longer, or how the knee he took an arrow in isn't preventing his adventuring anymore ect. It's touched on that Simon can control his age but doesn't since he still sees himself as an old man, (and would probably raise a few eyebrows if he was fifteen again.) But maybe talk about how externally he might be 55 but his internally his body is as healthy as it was when he was twenty. If you want to get REAL subtle you can even lower his agility in the prologue and boost it after to represent this. Sorry if this ended with more of lore idea then art idea but those are my thoughts! I hope they help you're doing great SL!

Sundry thoughts in no particular order- Body hair on female characters seems like more effort than it's worth to depict. If it's not mentioned in the narration one way or another, I doubt many people are going to complain if it's not visible. Simon's level of body hair as depicted in the current pictures seems appropriate. As far as pubic hair goes, personally, I have a pretty strong aesthetic preference for a lack of it, so I wouldn't complain if it wasn't there. But more than the characters all catering to my sexual preferences, if the characters are going to be illustrated, I'd like it if the art highlights how the characters are all visually distinct. So depicting different pubic hair, or a lack of it, on different characters, seems appropriate to me. As far as Simon de-aging, since it's explicitly referenced in the narrative, I feel like it's appropriate for the art to reflect that as well. I think it might be prudent to explicitly hash out with Annikath what signs of aging Simon shows at the beginning of the story, and at what point they've disappeared. Could maybe do a nude reference portrait from the time of the sex scene with Riala at the very beginning, one as of his arrival in Stineford, shortly after integrating the shard, and depending on how much the process progresses from there, maybe a final version after that, or another intermediary reference around, say, the time he's captured by Esthera. Practically speaking, the more signs of aging he shows, generally the more effort he's probably going to take to draw (unless he becomes extremely lean and so more effort has to go into drawing all his muscles.) So de-aging him would probably save work in the long run relative to depicting signs of aging throughout the game, whereas it'd probably seem incongruous to never depict them in the first place. As far as scene image variants, more than action transitions, I think that expression changes are both more practical and more meaningful to incorporate into the art. Frankly, I think most porn games suffer for their narrow focus on illustrating things like penetration, ejaculation, etc. with very little attention given to changes in expression at other emotional or sensory transitions in the scenes. Especially since TLS is such a characterization-rich game, I think it'd be kind of a waste not to leverage the art to show differences in expression and body language between the characters. There are some elements which can be adjusted between morphs to make the scene seem less static aside from facial expression, but which involve smaller amounts of work relative to major action transitions, like curling toes, sweat, flushing, etc. One relatively low-effort visual shorthand which I like, which I feel is underused in 2D porn art, is tremble lines to suggest orgasmic quivers. I think this is also an interesting way to depict sexual differences between the characters. Does Varia get the same sort of orgasmic trembles that Lynine does? Probably not. As far as illustration of non-sex scenes, I think that some of them are probably more worthwhile to illustrate than most of the sex scenes. The emotional relationships of this game are more of a unique selling point than the porn, I think the art is best used to enhance that. Some of that is best applied in the context of the sex scenes, but some of it is probably better used elsewhere.

Honestly when it comes to Simons Scars, I like the idea of most them disappearing as Simon "de-ages". Obviously some will still remain (Larger ones like his eye) but the more "filler" scars will disappear. On body hair, it's very dependent on personal preference. In my head, they aren't shaved, mainly due to the fact that they are always fighting. It makes sense for the succubus's to be hairless naturally, but humans and elves not so much. A good middle ground for this would be to have an option set to enable pubic hair or disable it. Drawing wise this shouldn't be to much of an issue as all the pubic hair would be is an extra layer drawn on top of the image. The down side to this approach is having an extra version of each image with pubic hair on it. Personally, I'd be really sad if everyone was completely hairless, but I could understand why it had to be done. Sorry for the wall of text, formatting on a cell isn't the best.

Cosmetic Questions: 1: body hair: whatever you think makes sense for the character (agreed on aka and especially hilstara not bothering to shave) 2: pubic hair: see above 3: body hair on Simon: see above (yes) 4: # of Scars on Simon: (42). Scars seem interesting to me from the point of view of the latter question about aging. I can totally see the reconstructive power that reverses aging also having the capacity to heal scars. 5: Simon De-aging: Old men can look pretty fine if in reasonably fit shape as would be expected of a soldier, de-aging seems quite fine. 6: prologue scenes: I think that is hilarious, +1 from me. Procedure Questions: 1: how much time on SFW: I personally would want as much time as possible on SFW scenes. A sex game like this one is way more about characters and relationships rather than the sex itself and I think that the art should definitely reflect on that. 2: character references for main cast: Yes, and release them 3: facesets: I liked the new succubi facesets, however I think new facesets for the main cast would have to look very very similar to they way they do now to the point where they would only be minor cosmetic improvements if any. 4: enemy battlers: sure? but I would rather not have anything divert from what everyone really wants.

Cosmetic Questions: 1) How do people feel about body hair on the women? My preference is none but I think because everyone is different maybe have it as a chat option with the charactor in game. This would be effort but allow people to customise their ideal. Or you could have the option in the charactor references, maybe with a picture people can see for each setting. 2) Extension of the above: pubic hair, same question and same reasons. Same as above although I prefer a little hair here myself. 3) Likewise, body hair on Simon? No rel preference as long as he does not look like a mammoth :) 4) Trickier question: how many scars should Simon have? Keep the major ones and lose the rest as the power he wields grows. 5) Should we have Simon's body de-age in the beginning of the game? I like Simon's face and do not think it should have any drastic changes made 6) Changing gears entirely, there's a question of how we should approach the prologue scenes. I like your Idea of having fun with it. You could do it through the eyes of chosen. Procedure Questions: 1) How much time should be spent on SFW scenes? Definately some of these would help. If they are any good at cityscapes, setting the tone/style of the current location helps. Also want to see Cum's love bomb in action. This still may be my favourite scene. 2) Should we spend time on character references for all the main cast? Yes! Being able to see each charactor in full would be nice. Some basic stats would be good even for none harem charactors like the unwomen (not Dari) who's name escapes me currently. 3) Should we put effort into redrawing facesets? I love Cum and Robin's facesets so do not want those changed but unless you actually do examples I don't think I could commit one way. 4) What about unique enemy art? Consistency would be good take the time to change them.

Cosmetics: 1) Body hair is fine! 2) Pubic hair is fine! 3) Simon hair is fine! 4) I think the scar question is something you should sort out with your artist. Illustrating the game is quite the undertaking, and I’d be hesitant to have the artist commit to a character design that might prove difficult to maintain in the long run. 5) I’m torn on this. I much prefer looking at hot!Simon, but it makes narrative sense to do some de-aging. The easiest way to represent this might be the number of grey hairs? 6) If I were to recommend this game to anyone, I too would warn them about the prologue. Some further indicator that it’s satirical of bad ero RPGs would probably help. I’m fond of the notion of crude, joke-y drawings of some sort. Maybe crayon? Procedure: 1) Sure! SFW scenes where it’s important to convey the importance of a moment or the character’s feelings would make sense. 2) Re: character references, your call. This sounds like something to sort out with your artist. 3) I vote no. I’m attached to the current faces. 4) I’m indifferent re: enemy battlers.

Cosmetic Questions: 1) How do people feel about body hair on the women?
I prefer no overall. I think it’s okay to not be incredibly realistic with the level of detail in the art? At least in this sense. Realistically, I do agree that it seems a little silly that some of the women might be shaving their legs though. It won't make me not want to play if there is some body hair. 2) Extension of the above: pubic hair, same question and same reasons. I have no problem with this. 3) Likewise, body hair on Simon? In my head, I imagine him having a little more body hair than what was shown in the art? But honestly, as is is fine. 4) Trickier question: how many scars should Simon have?
The one over his eye, obviously. Maybe a couple more big ones on his chest or back? Like, a long jagged scar that goes across his back or front (because he got slashed there during the war, etc.)
 5) Should we have Simon's body de-age in the beginning of the game?
I think it’s fine. He’s clearly older, and everyone playing the game knows that. I think de-aging him to look younger than that would be weird. That being said, the “de-aging” could reduce the amount of scars he has? Maybe have some early art before the transformation where he's more scarred, and then after the shard injection his body changes. I think someone else said this too, but maybe the “main” ones remain because they’re an integral part of Simon’s identity and how he views himself. 6) Changing gears entirely, there's a question of how we should approach the prologue scenes.
Doing the distorted scenes from the POV of the Chosen seems really fun! I support that. Procedure Questions: 1) How much time should be spent on SFW scenes?
A lot of time! I think the SFW scenes are just as (if not even more) important as the NSFW ones. Some major moments there could include: Aka fighting in the underground arena; the creature from the void crawling up toward the Fucklord while he’s in the Tower; the death of Skullcrusher; scenes showing the clash of armies (Yhilin, Incubus King, etc.) Orcent battling the other orcs at the Gathering, etc. Some cityscapes of new locations (like Ardford, the Elven Forests, Orgasmic Empire, the palace and the ruins in Zirantia, etc.); some scenes where major acts of diplomacy is occurring (the Ardford Summit for example); A shot of Alonon sleeping in his throne among his advisors. Maybe the death of Commander Geoff at the hands of the Incubus King? Anyway! I fully support devoting a lot of time to SFW scenes. The NSFW stuff is fun, but you’ve created such a rich, vast world that I think it would be a shame to not spend any time developing art showcasing it. 2) Should we spend time on character references for all the main cast?
I fully support this. 3) Should we put effort into redrawing facesets?
I think it would set the game apart even further than it already is. I don’t see anything wrong with “updating” the facesets to make them more unique to your game as long as they still look like the characters. I’m fine with either option though. Also, if you’re not going to change the characters then at least change some of the NPC facesets? Overall you’ve done a fantastic job of keeping them unique, but some of the art is repetitive. 4) What about unique enemy art? I wholeheartedly support this. Consistency is key — some of the art doesn’t match, and I think it would make the game look even better.

Quiet Stranger

CORE QUESTIONS Yes. I would like this game to have art. The amount of art is unimportant. Please prioritize quality and consistency. I have come to regard this series like one might a favorite book, and my expectations for the artist are unavoidably high. I have a particular image of these characters. I have known them over the years through the basic assets already in place. Deviations from this style displease me. They are contrary to my nostalgia and are difficult for me to internalize as anything except fan art. New supporters won't have that problem. They shall know you by the modern assets you put in, which I suspect shall include portraits, banners, and more. That does mean that their impression of the game (and thus whether they stick with it) shall be determined by how much they personally like the art used. And that makes it even more important to put forward your best. When it comes down to the breakdown of each scene, I suggest that we only have one picture per entry on Simon's memory lane (appearing at the end of the erotic story). If we decide it's important to have more dynamic scenes, we should shell out for a proper animator instead of developing a slide show. I would prioritize key moments in the story; that often has included sex, yes, but I can think of more than one defining scene that had everyone's clothes on. We can worry about fleshing out the game with more art assets afterward. I honestly view the Last Sovereign as a character-driven RPG above all else. The sex is just window dressing. COSMETIC QUESTIONS I enjoy the idea of different races having different amounts of body hair, as part of their distinction. Although I find it unattractive, I think it would be appropriate, interesting touch, which wouldn't take much away. The variety is in and of itself worth pursuing. Pubic hair should similarly be a reflection of race/personality. Simon should also follow the distinct logic of the character. But it is possible that as he rejuvenates, he might also become glabrous; it could be a discreet display of character development as he becomes more sexual and accepts the influence of the succubi. On the topic of old age and scars, I believe that this should follow the logic of character development. Let them fade across chapters. It is an artful, subtle indicator of how far he's come. And juxtaposition with a caricatured prologue is the perfect way to start. PROCEDURAL QUESTIONS Do this right. Even if it takes longer, I'd prefer we leave as little margin for error as possible. Make it consistent. I want the art to match the current facesets, not the other way around, but I don't want any disparity of style between assets. I'd sooner have a uniform image that I didn't like than a game which jumps between different designs. Many of the Aramite faces, for example, are a point of years-long irritation for me. That preference, of course, includes enemies. But they are the lowest priority.

Rachnera

Thinking back on the issue of female body hair, I feel like if you want to go for it, you should go for it regardless of what the comments say. It's one of those damn feedback loops that one cannot break without being pushy: Women are almost always perfectly shaved in media, and especially in erotica, so people grow accustomed to it, so they reject body hair on women, so media producers keep female body hair nonexistent in their shows. Maybe I'm a bit optimistic there, but I feel like your target audience is tolerant enough to be at worst neutral about this once it'll be a fait accompli.

Troqu

Sorry for the late reply here, but I really only have a few things to add to the conversation. About body hair: I'm fine with it if it's done right, but more often than not it's, well not. Especially on characters with light colored hair. That shit is really hard to see from any distance excepting a close inspection on most people so the overly thick brushes required to make including it at all visible means it looks awkward as hell usually. The brushes thing is actually also true of darker haired characters but because they actually might have their hair visible it's less bothersome (though I get that might be hypocritical). Personally I'd vote against it at all unless Annikath is positive they can get it right. The pubes as drawn seemed fine to me, but there is generally a stronger concentration of hair there than on arms and legs. On Simon de-aging as the game goes on: I say keep it in sync with what he's supposed to be canonically. On the scar situation: Has his rejuvenation not taken care of some of these? Scars fading as we get older isn't an actual age thing but just a replacing of our skin, so I would thing de-aging would entail a similar amount of skin replacement but more rapidly done with magic. As many as is reasonable of course, but at the same time if you go with de-aging him IMO less and less should appear anyway.

SerEaglenose

My thoughts on hair is the same a many others; what makes sense for the character. The problem I had with the idea of art in the game was that the usual pornographic images just wouldn't suit the tone of the setting, all the characters outside the succubi are beautiful in a realistic way in my head, not bland identical replicas. That's the Incubus King's world, not Simon's. On Simon's scars and de-aging, from what I understand, isn't it linked to his view of himself? Like he'll always look somewhat middle aged because he sees himself as such, he'll always have the scar over his eye, because it's part of his self image. So I suppose one or two large traumatic scars should remain, but smaller ones would disappear, same with age lines. So maybe have a more heavily scarred Simon at the beginning and then gradually make him more healed. Maybe even in the above Aka scene, as Simon embraces his power have the biggest scars disappear? So people don't think you're just losing detail as more art is made.

smurf

Core Questions: I'm not clamoring for art personally, but if it's optional it can really only add to the game. Of the two styles previewed, I'd say I prefer the soft-shaded style. Facial expression variations for dialog and the emotional arc of a scene make sense, but drawing multiple poses for each scene definitely seems like it'd be too much work. Frontloading the early game with art makes sense as a place to start, for sure. Cosmetic Questions: My main wish here would be to make sure that the cast has a variety of different body types and sizes, and aren't all just the same basic frame but with different cup sizes. Anything that can be done to create a wider range of looks would be something I'd support, which would extend to stuff like body/pubic hair and scars for Simon and Hilstara. De-aging Simon makes sense given the story, I think the way he looks in these preview pieces is perfectly fine. I think caricatured scenes for the prologue are a strong choice and would do a lot to help convey the tone of that section. I definitely would not want the prologue scenes to be presented in the same style as the rest of the game. Procedure Questions: The more SFW scenes the better, in my book! Especially for important moments like meeting new party members, the various costume changes and transformations, and Simon and Janine's wedding; having unique art there could really help sell those big moments. I also think it'd be super neat to have an establishing shot of major cities and other locations the first time you visit, though obviously I understand that'd be a huge amount of work. Drafting character references at the outset is probably the best way to keep all the cast from ending up being drawn too similarly, so I'd very much support doing so even if it is a bit of a timesink. Straying too far from the faces everyone sees in dialog for hours and hours might risk creating distance between the player and the cast, and I don't think it'd be worth the effort. And unique enemy art would be cool, but isn't a huge priority for me.

Argel_tal

Art is nice but i don't like how Simon face is drawn , he should be more brutal i think, tho it's just mah opinion.

Jordan Frank

I definitely think that more art for TLS is an undeniable positive, but I also think that making it non-optional would be a serious change from what the game is currently. I really appreciate being able to play the game wherever I like, and to discreetly breeze through the text-only sex scenes when I'm more excited to advance the story! I suppose you could count me firmly in the optional art camp.

Pheebor

My quick 2c is that scene variations, the sorts you mentioned previously without much redrawing, can have a powerful subliminal effect. Ok, that was 1c, so I suppose here is the other. Big moments and establishing shots, one each for the major characters at least, one each for the major locations, and one image (or one variation set) for the major plot set pieces. I believe that these would give the greatest bang/buck. Some NSFW would be appreciated of course but I wouldn't go overboard; I believe that TLS has long ceased to be a mere porn game, if ever it could have been called that. So it would be great to have a SWF and NSFW portrait of each of the major characters, but if budget and time is limited, I'd say the SFW one is more important. With that said, there are NSFW scenes of tremendous plot importance and impact, such as the scene with Aka, above, and what happens to Altina and Varia, and I'd say the first time with Robin is a pretty big moment.
