Sometimes hiring out work helps things move faster, sometimes it makes work weird when I'm waiting to receive something. That hasn't stopped progress, but it meant I needed to start doing future dialogue, enemies, and other elements that aren't dependent on the missing element. Work continues, but this makes estimating my progress difficult.

This update is going to include a scene with a whole set of new animations/events that took a fair amount of time to get right. Sometimes this doesn't feel worth it, because people tend to assume anything in RPG Maker is just default assets. It's a major event and I want to make it feel momentous, though.

Nobody is here for Game of Thrones hot takes, but I've been watching and it has me thinking about endings. We're still heading toward the resolution for TLS that I've had in mind since the beginning and I hope everyone finds it satisfying. This project means a lot to me and I intend to complete it to the best of my ability.

I was shocked that it turned out to be Arya that killed Tony Soprano.

snusnumrik

Better then the GoT ending is gonna be the new Better love story then twilight.

Badger66

Yeah, honestly I have no doubt that you will write a significantly better ending than GoT. I have the utmost faith that you will not forget the lore, the plot threads, just everything that makes TLS, well, TLS. Your characters will develop in meaningful ways all the way to the end that also makes sense to the characters themselves. Pretty much everything D&D did not do this final season. Like you said, not posting this for GoT hot takes or debates, just pointing out my faith in your writing skills.

sierralee

I was more shocked that Walter White and the smoke monster became lumberjacks.

sierralee

I've been under a self-imposed media blackout because I feel like it would eat into my mental bandwidth but I've still gotten the sense there's a fair bit of backlash.

sierralee

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'm sure I'll need to improve a thing or two after my first draft, but I've had so many of these conclusions in my head for so long, I hope to do them right.

Skull Leader

No one is here for Game of Thrones Hot takes... I don't know about that, I suspect that Nalili would be all for a game of Hot Take on any nearby Throne...

WaxerRed

SL you could literally, literally make the ending Simon taking a dump on Ivala and I still think it would be a better ending then GOT.

Rachnera

What do you mean? GoT's ending is a perfect business decision. That way, the producers will be able to justify a more faithful full reboot (with new and cheaper actors) in a couple of years (let's call it "Games of Thrones Brotherhood") and squeeze cash out of that licence for one more decade. Megail wouldn't have done better

Decanter

The realest take, though GRRM will have to finish the series in time for them to have an ending to be faithful to.

Decanter

I still can't believe Rosebud was the name of the iceberg.

Grey Wolf

While the held sneeze of an ending we got for GoT has galvanized the criticism of the series it is has been in a tailspin for the past four seasons. I didn't read the books but it's fairly clear that while D&D had a fairly good grip on adapting the source material in the first half, once they had only the outline they showed they have little to no ability to fill in the blanks. It's most frustrating when you realize the ending had so much work put into it and if the writing had of been there what seemed laughable and inexplicable could have been something that deserved discussion rather than ridicule. Your assurances are appreciated but unnecessary. If anything the decline of GoT just makes me cherish the few series that retain what makes them exceptional, such as TLS, even more.

DukeLeto7

I thought it was rather droll to introduce the character of Kenny only to kill him almost immediately. Those bastards.

Seil

The problem with GoT's later seasons is that, while they followed the plot of the books they had the source material so to speak. When they went past that, they basically have a set of milestones with no clear way to reach it. For example "This charcter dies later on in an important scene" and what they do is "Let's kill that charcter here and now, because why not". And the whole later seaons could be summarized as Jon Snow fucked up things directly or indirectly hard. Why the "Bells" happened as it did is basically because Jon did the stupidiest thing and basically hurr-durr-derped the whole Daenerys situation. "Let it be fear" indeed.

DuckTogo

After reading this comment thread I must now say that I am also here for GoT hot takes. I hope you will accommodate this in the future.

sierralee

I agree that a lot of problems were in the execution (like Dany) though I think they also made some structural errors (like the Night King). I've been reading the books since before AFFC, so I have a lot of thoughts, but I'll hold back and keep working. But in industry terms, what matters is that the series made truckloads of money and the viewership numbers kept breaking records. I hope this leads to more money being put into fantasy productions in the future. The more series we get, the better the chances that some of them will be satisfying through the end.

sierralee

I have heard the will of the patrons. This is a GoT commentary Patreon now.

Nathan Phoenix

Slightly off topic but I wanted to plant the seed. Have you given any thought to doing multiple endings for TLS? I don't mean "get more than x points to unlock the good ending" but as in Simon choosing what to do with all his power. Like the round table discussion he has with the three women.

r

Hey Sierra Lee, I only recently came across TLS and I must say what an awesome game!! Forgive me for being pushy, but do you have a projected date for the next release? It seems that your updates come out roughly every 3 months, would it be fair to assume next update around August?

sierralee

I've given it thought, but let me just say that the early round table discussion was intentionally put in as misdirection to make players think there would be a simple system of paths leading to those endings. Having said that, when you get to the ending you will have some decisions to make.

sierralee

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying TLS! The previous update was longer ago than usual because I spent over a month working on another project (Once Ever After). But since I'm finished working on that for the short term, I will be returning to my normal schedule. So expect weeks, not months. Other than that, all I can say is check my weekly updates.

Seil

I kinda want Janine's "Unpraised. Unmourned. Forgotten." Or at least some variation of it as one of the options.

Retromancer

So here's a random idea I had... It would be both funny and cute if in a roleplaying scene, like with Lyn and Orlise, if Simon said something like "Qum, come down here!" in a loud booming voice and the castle shook a little bit and then there was a quick animation of Qum's sprite (or whoever) looking scared and scrambling down (using the run function) to the bedchamber to get involved in whichever threesome/foursome scene was written out. Thought I'd throw it out there, might be too much work for the payoff though

Retromancer

Now I have it in my head that's Qum's surprise birthday party orgy. Lots of hugs and kisses and fuckety-fucks

Decanter

Word-of-SL is "Birthdays aren't generally celebrated on Arclent, sorry. Though they do have a good calendar system, not everyone even keeps perfect track of when they were born." There's a citation on the wiki's Timeline page if you want to verify.

sierralee

Haha, you can consider it canon that if anyone engaged in sex calls for Qum, she comes in with a flying tackle.

sierralee

If someone explained the concept of birthdays to Qum, she'd be excited by the idea but would declare her birthday to be that day. Expect more than one Qum birthday a year, because tracking time isn't her strong point. Qum would have an enthusiastic if not entirely accurate response to most holidays, actually.

Retromancer

This was just a joke, sorry to not make that that clearer and offend your wiki gatekeeper sensibilities

Retromancer

And because she like to spread the love around, it would be Stabby Girls birthday, Yarra's birthday, Little Big Healy Lady's birthday etc until the group couldn't do anything else,

DankPotatoes

I'm guessing that the Fucklord will be unclimatically killed by Aka, then Simon defeats the Lustlord and goes crazy from one update to the next. Then he burns Ari Yhilina for no reason. Then Antarion becomes King of Arclent. Did i get it right?

sierralee

Dang, you guessed all my plans to subvert your expectations.

Discomelon

don't know if this is on my side or not(might be just my hifi audio system) but early on in chapter 1 i hear a lot of audio breaks and pops while in feroholm(first visit) and delgar forest. just kinda bugged me and i felt the urge to speak up

Lamsey

I can't hear any issues on my system with headphones or speakers, on either the Youtube clip you linked or in the source ogg file. I can't see any clipping issues in the waveform either. However, re-encoding has solved this kind of "works for me but not for others" issue in the past. Does this version sound any better? https://www.dropbox.com/s/73xcfrn4pwezwq3/Templar%20Order%20%28holy%29.ogg?dl=0 Sierra - the version above loops more smoothly than the original, so you might want to swap it in regardless.

sierralee

I welcome people reporting anything they encounter, but I'm the worst person to ask about audio. As such, I defer to what audio people tell me. Thanks for the new version, Lamsey! I have swapped it in.

Discomelon

i figured it out actually, it was audio latency due to the fact that the game runs at 60 fps but my audio runs at a slightly faster rate so the game was forcing the audio to reverse by about 1 second during that area.

Discomelon

on another note feel free to watch that channel i just started and and I'm using TLS as my starting point for the channel. i would certainly appreciate the subs but just views is more than enough

sierralee

Glad that it wasn't a major problem. Good luck with your channel!

Secular Reason

No way will "everyone" find it satisfying Sierra - this game is far to complex. Some will wish we took all the shards, became the new Lustlord and got all our girls goddess shards replacing the current pantheon, some will wish we don't disappear into the ether (the Tower would be a good hiding spot to vanish to now that I think of it) others will wish it became impossible and Simon ruled the world. Still others will wish we "solved the universe" learning every single bit of lore, leaving no mysteries left (that's me!) and you'll not likely be able to make the ending that makes everyone happy. Just focus on making it the best you can and staying true to your vision and characters.
