UPDATE 2: Version 0.44.3 is now live. This one is nonessential for most players, but for those who look under the hood, I've done my best to fix all placeholders, respond to all balance suggestions, and generally get things ready for further suggestions. Everyone else, expect an update post on Sunday.

UPDATE: Check the new links for version 0.44.2. I hope this one is a polished foundation for those who look deeper and discuss balance. If you were waiting to play or wanted to see the previously bugged decision, now is a good time. Future updates should be less bugfixing, more improvements and balance.

ORIGINAL POST

I'm proud of this update and I hope everyone enjoys it! Having said that, like any complex update, there will definitely be balance changes before the final version. You don't want to overwrite your old saves until this one is stable.

TLS 0.44.0

 - Double update finishing the war.

 - Three new scenes.

 - Tons of new/improved assets. Thanks go to Bug Reporting, Annikath, Decanter, and Lamsey.

TLS 0.44.1

 - Quick update to fix a pathing bug that stopped the game.

TLS 0.44.2

 - Massive polishing update. No major balance changes, but tons of things were smoothed or improved.

 - Some affection added for Lynine and Trin.

 - Rodak Elites: There's a new save point, and their stats/skills have been tweaked in many ways.

 - Ginasta: There's a slight tweak to her AI. Let me know if this ends up seeming weird.

Notes/questions for players:

1) There's an optional boss (you'll know when). Let me know if you think it's too easy.

2) During one section, you're given new ProN. I also considered giving a temporary resource and not allowing the use of old ProN, since I fear that might remove the need to make any decisions. Let me know if ProN feels scarce to you.

3) Overall I suspect that I didn't push the war tradeoffs hard enough and that's it's too easy to get all three fronts up to their best values. These should probably be more difficult, but I wanted feedback from more saves before I increased them.

4) Those who decrypt, please report if variables seem to be missing from areas where they should have an impact or if it would be logical to add more RP bonuses.

I actually didn't burn the midnight oil on core work this time, but that doesn't mean there aren't any bugs. There are several fights I'm pretty pleased with, as strategy is enough even with weak saves. Overall, I hope this is an update everyone finds satisfying.

WaxerRed

-After a hard battle, just now gotten Ginasta to her last sliver of health. "Hey I wonder if the dominate skill has any special dialogue with her like it did with Rialia." Uses skill. FUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

genericname12345

Those 4 Rodak Elites are more dangerous than the Incubus Emperor ever was - two Icehammers is enough to either instakill or bring a party member so low it doesn't matter, and your DPS is too low to kill them fast enough. Maybe lower enemy defense/HP? If you can take out one or two them fast enough then the fight becomes a lot more manageable.

Zyrus

Another bug. I know for a fact I got the best church cooperation result at GawnFall, yet during the Zirantia fight, the cutscene with Hester implies they didn't prepare at all.

Edward Culham

Going on about the battles that I see everyone is talking about on here, felt like the battles were hard but hard for good reason. Though, I did wish that with our armies in certain places that we could have a party of 4 with us taking some random orc/ succubi into the battle with us. Though, found the Natili section to be really difficult as she is buy herself with still some heavy hitters that can make a unlucky range state go to game over. This was the playthrough were I had her def and magic def up over 250

Lamsey

Well, that was quite exhausting. I wish I'd taken better notes as I went along. I'll probably have more feedback later, but I'll put some stuff down now in the hope that you'll see it in time for 0.44.2. I assume that people know by this stage, but still: SPOILERS AHEAD. You definitely succeeded in terms of giving the war a chaotic feel, with lots of powerful and unknown individuals tipping the balance in various directions, and pulling the party around from one potential crisis to the next. It felt very different from the methodical, inexorable progress of the Third Arclent War. It feels like the final chapter will be more focused on these mysterious powerful Tower walkers and their sentient constructs (including Mestan now?!), rather than grand army battles between nations. This is good, since we've built ourselves up from the conventional warfare of the early chapters, through the combined warfare of chapter 4, and are now moving towards the transcendental in chapter 5. There are a lot of visible pieces on the board now, even if we're not sure of the identity, motivation, or capabilities of many of those pieces. It looks like Tanuken (if I'm remembering that name right) and whoever's controlling Chaos Girl are being teed up to be the next Big Bads, along with perhaps the Mother, with the other goddesses perhaps being neutral or friendly. So far, it seems like that will work well. I'm also looking forward to seeing how things develop post-war with the likes of Sabitha, Ginasta and Fheliel. I'm pleased by the Fucklord's final act of defiance, since the domino effect of Esthera's plan would have left Simon too powerful, too quickly, and would have forced the Anak into acting. Wendis's plan to deal with Estaven's soul is pretty disturbing; my Simon won't be allowing it, but it'll be interesting to see if that generates any conflict. I forgot to take notes on war front progress. I'll do this on my next playthrough. I don't remember getting any obviously sub-optimal results, though. In terms of the ProN question, I had no problems since for once I'm not broke, due to saving up for the Givini ruins. That allowed me to spend a little more than the million, to avoid having to make a tricky tradeoff (I think the only thing I didn't go for was the farmland). I do wonder whether some players won't end up spending the million and instead banking it for later, which seems contrary to the fact that it's not actually our money, having come from Arclentian donors. It'd perhaps be better if we had to spend the million in Erosia or lose it, with the option of augmenting it with our own ProN? I'll split out the rest of my thoughts into replies to this comment, to avoid breaking people's scroll wheels.

StormyAngel

Something I just remembered: Did Estaven have a skill in his last two fights that affected how my party's health was displayed? Because there are a couple times I was confused by the fact that all of my character health bars were completely full despite the fact that he just hit them all with an area of effect attack. And the numbers seemed low to me, around the 200's when usually they're up in the 600's. If so, that's pretty clever, cause the first few times I just shrugged it off and didn't stop to heal. If the fight had been intended to be difficult that might have actually been a problem. But I mostly wanted to bring this up because all it ultimately did was manage to make me feel Even More Secure in the feeling that Estaven was no match for my party. XD

TheCursedAndTorn

Not sure if its been reported on already, but the investment opportunity in Kyangan regarding the fields is bugged slightly. You can make additional investments into it even if you already did once, and the Pron gets taken in full each time.

Ripe

How do you beat those four Rodak Elites? Because unless Aka and/or Robin manage to get lucky and strike a critical hit in rounds one or two you loose. That's not counting needing to get lucky and have the surviving Elites in round one spread their damage (or miss) and not pile up on single character because then you loose. You might win by reviving dead characters if there is only two elites left, but with anything more you have no chance. And to make everything even worse, when you loose you have to replay the whole sequence (two fights and conversation) to even get to them... which is getting rather boring (here is a word I never thought I'd be using with this game) fast. So far I can't see any strategy in defeating them other then pure luck...

Minalia

Got a game freeze during the battle where the rodak elites attack the mages. It occurs just after the undead elite kills the orc mage helping Balia. Just when Kai and the party is about to save em the game up and freezes. I repeated the scene multiple times and it is always at that point that the game freezes.

WaxerRed

Not really a bug, but no RP gain for Trin coming in to defend the harem against her male counterpart? Seems like an appropriate time after she said so many romantic words about the harem.

sierralee

Version 0.44.2 is out! If you have bugs/comments regarding the newest version, please put them below this comment for the sake of organization.

Cilmawyn

Bug note - not sure if it's 0.44.2 specific but it's the first time I've seen it - when going to do the first research in Ch. 4 (Orcs/Unpeople/Purity/Defense) post first tower visit, my research screen shows the Orc research rotating as if it were completed and does not allow the option to select it. Also, Aka appears to the left of that path for some reason.

Roy Cabaniss

I'm reasonably certain this is not a bug related to this version, and also I think I saw a comment about this bug earlier. During a replay, the research cycle which happens after the Unknown Entity arrives does not work. The current research is still unselected, the mini-scene in which the Entity, Riala, and Robin discuss future research does not occur. Instead, an Aka sprite is on the left. This makes it impossible to perform Advanced Research, and I'm convined the flags are in a bad state. Comment - Just saw Cilmawyn's comment - same issue.

DukeLeto7

Starting a new QA response chain now that I'm caught up to the Royal Palace in the spreadsheet. Will add info as needed. Allue and Alluon's blades mentioned in dialogue might be interesting kit as weapons or key items. They could be retained and/or reforged as weapons for the party's sword wielders, or they could be returned to the duo to score diplomatic points in Zirantia in a later update.

Loomenaro

A placeholder that never got replaced. When determining Sabitha's score at the end it checks Tower Front >= 1 twice.

Hell Satan

Why is Aka floating in the research thing what you call it again?

Runcible Technician

Yeesh, I finally get time to play the update and literally everything I noticed is mentioned twice or more. I liked the update, I feel it did every character justice. I really liked the Balia discussion (I opted for the orcsphere and was surprised at the result). I noticed the Fucklord getting easier and easier as I went along (good war prep I guess) and only used a few items along the way with my optimized save. I had a Crimson Grey moment at the decision with Wendis at the end. The subtle horror of the yes/no made me stop for a second and really try to think about what was best for someone in her mental state.

Zyrus

So I just finished the update, and I'm looking forward to seeing the new figures on the sheets. I managed to save the Impaler on my first run through the war, but I've never managed it after that. Secondly, I absolutely adore the way Simon twists Estavens logic against him if you allow the torture. I could definitely appreciate the irony, and the way Simon doesn't treat the whole situation as a problem.

WaxerRed

Just want to note that the super holy attack from Hester that knocked the piss out of Estavan during his speech was super badass! Way to go Hester.

WaxerRed

Minor bugs Dari faces the wrong way when talking to the tribe man. Box in the center of the 'dead land' still doesn't do anything.

Jan Dietrich

If any of you guys that finished the update could tell me how to beat her, i'd really appreciate it. I'm probably too stupid to see the obvious tactic here. EDIT: Sorry, ignore please. I completely forgot about Sexual Aegis. My bad.

WaxerRed

Oh an since I don't think it's been mentioned yet since you tweaked it. Ginasta is a pretty good optional boss. Hard but not impossible for a fully leveled party. My only 'complaint' is that after Ginasta, The fucklord, and Sabitha all have moves they use to double debuff the party I wish there was some sort of healer skill to combat that. As King's Aura is kind of Simons most powerful move, an its more or less negated by them instantly.

DukeLeto7

And off we go again... With Mestan in the Ghenalon II phase appearance, the dialogue tree accounts for the possibilities that you sent him to scout Erosia or the borders, but not the possibility that you gave him no orders or didn't bother talking to him in the Erosian Pass in the first place. The variation on the Caesar Cipher used to represent Dari's native language is pretty easy to break, although I doubt it was intended to be difficult. I'm refraining from putting up a full translation on the wiki forums until I get the big giant spreadsheet done. I assume you have no objections to this.

Xenos DB

44.2, only simon, the wife, and estaven are in there during the afterdeath scene, wynn+ the rest aren't

Zyrus

I think I see where my problem is with the Orc stand. My saves are all bugged to not have Stark revived or talked to... so I don't have Stark at the stand. I originally had him fine, but then you changed up conditionals or something and now I can't get him. How do I fix this? A save editor?

Jan Dietrich

Playing through the last battles now, but it appears i definitely have to replay the council of gawnfall, just to save The Impaler. What reason is there to play this game without my favorite social darwinist? ( ཀ ʖ̯ ཀ)

Jan Dietrich

It probably already got reported, but there's a typo in the end gathering. Lynine says "that could get into rather heady philosophy".

DukeLeto7

Minor note: The check for 25+ Early Troops Path in the Tanurak Reaction section can't possibly be met, because the maximum legal value is 24. This probably doesn't matter all that much given the starting bonus to Erosian Front.

Olaroll

Minor suggestion: There should be an area change confirmation at the entrance to the erosian temple. I was wandering around the forest with most of my party at half hp, when suddenly I found the entrance by accident. That immediately starts a fight that's rather tough when unprepared. I had to load an earlier save.

Darthjake

I'm actually rather upset right now, I just got through the Gawnfall Council and Simon's Anger at Wynn is still at 1. Checked the guide and I obviously missed the key conversation that lets you eliminate his anger completely. I'm probably going to go ahead push to the new section, but I'm going to have to redo the game *again* just to get Wynn in the harem. Not really anyone's fault but mine, but it's still frustrating considering how many times I've done this. And because of that I usually miss something, last time it was Stark that I missed. Anyway rant off.

Darthjake

Has anyone else had troubles against the Erosian Elites with the healer? Seems she resists all of Robin's spells and even though Qum's whip is a weak point, she takes no damage. After my first defeat I got the right Lust defense equipment on the party so no lust stuns, but that group is hard to take down even using HIlstara's bash.

WaxerRed

Hi SL, looks like you pretty much weathered the new release storm of comments! Now that it seems to have died down a bit, do you mind if I ask a minor story question? Why was the fucklord using the Divine claw to gather women and magical ingredients? Okay maybe I can get the women part, but the magical ingredients seems a bit random. Also were said missing women ever returned?

goi

So just a check but I think it is a meant tradeoff in that if you didn't support anyone back in Zirantia, you can only get a max of 85 Auxiliary Size and need 90 for best result in the Ghenalon Auxiliary Check unlike the other way where you get 95 max size both can clear the quallty one

onepot

Well, hereby I'm officially checking back in! o/ Had to start a full rerun though and am currently preparing for the Ardford summit, so it's gonna take quite a while before I get to check out whatever happens after Gawnfall. I've got a question though, Sierra: Will the country scores be of some greater significance in the endgame? I'm asking because I was rather puzzled when I noticed that Yhilin Final State is triggered by Acceptance, not Yhilin score. Duh. Not sure what gave me the wrong idea in the first place, but when I scoured the wiki, I couldn't find a single instance where Yhilin score is used for anything. Doesn't mean there isn't one of course, if anyone knows of an instance, please tell me. ^^ Anyways, it just makes me wonder.

Lamsey

0.42.2 feedback: The balance of the last Rodak Elite fight seems improved - taking out the elite aide in the first round now feels like a high priority, and it seemed like surviving the first few rounds was less luck-sensitive. I probably need to do some more testing to back that latter assertion up. Having replayed to avoid taking out the blue demons at the Tower crossroads (I knew I should have listened to Varia, dammit), I was pleased by Sabitha's eventual reaction. I wonder if Sabitha's gift in that scenario means it's not so important to hit her with Iris' seed in that first Tower encounter; the demonic seed was what convinced me it was the right move previously, but unless we have a use for more than one, then it might be a waste. As an aside, it'd be handy if the red demon mobs had a red flame sprite in that section, to help with hunting for the right mobs and make it easier to notice that the blue demon mobs aren't aggressive. Not sure if that would be a problem with the convention of the red inverse flame being a boss, though. If any sprite/battler recolouring would be useful, I'm happy to help. It was gratifying to see Estaven's announcement interrupted by Hester and Sarai. However, I noticed that the music doesn't change from the Erosian Town theme after the previous cutscene, when Simon and Riala teleport out to confront Estaven. It should change when it cuts to the Ivalan cathedral, and again when it flips back to the Zirantian royal palace. I also think the music should change when switching from Fuck Palace to Wendis after the final fight. My vote would be for the Tower Sombre theme, since we're seeing Wendis' dark side. On the subject of Wendis' dark side, the post-torture conversation made it a bit less disturbing, and Simon's reaction to Estaven's pleas was an epic zing. I still don't think I have it in me to let it happen, though. Following up on my earlier comment about the Fucklord seemingly being ignored as a threat during the period between the announcement and his reappearance, there are actually a few brief mentions of him which I didn't remember from the first time around. That being said, I think a more substantial mention in the middle of that period would not go amiss, so that it still feels like the Fucklord is on the radar. One possibility: when Simon is talking to Uyae after the first Ghenalese battlefield section, I think it would make sense for Simon to mention the Fucklord again when discussing with Uyae why he must return to Erosia. Even if Estaven is licking his wounds (which possibly bears mentioning), I'd imagine that Simon would want to stay alert for a possible revenge attack, especially with noncombatant harem members like Megail and Iris in the field.

sierralee

Version 0.44.3 is now released! Comments about it can go below this one.

DukeLeto7

Going over the whole 0.43-0.44 content from the top, I found another orphaned switch: {3367: Detection System] is turned on if Robin helps implement the Detection System in the Erosian Pass in either Early Troops or Hold Back. It never gets used or referenced again.

Iamdexter

I wonder if there is any chance to invest the optional dungeon between after the Great Thenoursian War and before Chapter 5? Maybe you had answered before but it is too much to read over 300+ comment. And I think Tanurak Strike>=2 should switch on T T-Erosia as well, not just T-Demons

Rachnera

One fucker down, and so many new questions.

Lamsey

0.43.3 is looking good. I like the change to the final Fucklord battle's intro text - it makes it much clearer that he's on his last legs (incidentally, I went all-out on attack this time and squished him in two rounds). The change to Sabitha's post-war reactions also makes sense and now I must replay the early part of the war... I had a poke around under the hood to see if I could spot any obvious bugs; the only ones I found were in the Gryndine River map. The blue-balled Mother's Guard is in an impassable location behind a tree, so he never moves from his starting position and so never becomes visible. Also, there's something odd about the airship succubus - she's set to show up when "airship elf" is set, not "airship succubus". I didn't find anywhere else where either switch was used. Typos / suggestions: First paragraph: 'other succubi' -> 'other succubus', or 'as if she was' -> 'as if they were': https://www.dropbox.com/s/fd9l2kgqok43s75/Screenshot%202019-07-20%2016.36.53.png?dl=0 'raised this' -> 'raised (at/in) this'? https://www.dropbox.com/s/a77peqgerbzqy49/Screenshot%202019-07-20%2017.52.09.png?dl=0 feel -> look? https://www.dropbox.com/s/3qt7y9mqyycmy8l/Screenshot%202019-07-20%2018.29.54.png?dl=0 Might be a nice touch if Uyae looks sad and says "..." when interacting with these two statues after the Antiala incident? https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjodeqgyb5harc7/Screenshot%202019-07-20%2019.26.21.png?dl=0 Faceset swap needed (all other instances look OK): https://www.dropbox.com/s/sx24igy3m0el5wk/Screenshot%202019-07-20%2020.08.08.png?dl=0 continencies -> contingencies: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a5uhg7s72afqsie/Screenshot%202019-07-20%2020.24.00.png?dl=0

Zyrus

I'm getting errors when I try to download the game from mega.

genericname12345

Will there be a .44.4, or is .44.3 the one that has the balance changes you're satisfied with?

WaxerRed

Hey SL this is more opinion more then bugfix but there were two things I saw while looking through DukeLeto7's amazing spreadsheet that struck me as odd. I can't believe I'm saying this but I think you actually made a score check too easy. 'Bait Melymyn' requires a religion check of 20 which is pretty darn low. I realize that perhaps a disastrous Gawnfall might perhaps have subtracted some religion points, but still in an optimized play though where I was scrapping by certain checks, I was able to blow through that check with over 40 religion. The other thing is for Sabitha who seems to have gotten a bit more fairly picky who is a tolerable mammal. Which is fine, it fits her character and I kinda feel bad now for blasting her with that seed. But Should we not get any brownie points with her for torturing Estavan?

DukeLeto7

OK, I'm confused about what's going on with the ProN variables in the Kyangen section. I'm going to describe how the code currently works below: Let's say that I am very frugal, and I have an uninvested surplus of 375k ProN at the outset of the war. (I'm certainly not in the possession of millions of surplus ProN from save editing, and anyone who says I am is slandering me.) That value is saved in the Temp ProN variable. I managed to avoid wrecking Kyangen, so I am given 1M in new ProN in addition to my saved 375k. There are 1.375M worth of available investments, all of which I fund, leaving me with 0 ProN at the end. Since this is less than the 375k I started with, the ProN variable is overwritten with the value of the Temp ProN variable, leaving me with 375k ProN. So instead of being penalized for having lots of uninvested ProN, I'm rewarded for it. This doesn't seem like what Megail is talkin' about in the game dialogue...

DankPotatoes

Have you concidered balancing the army size/ quality for the main army Sierra? I feel like it is too easy to get the best quality rewards for main army quality. I breezed through with a score of 47, when the best results requirement was 40. Meahwhile main army size is, well, literally impossible to max out as far as i can see. If you somehow maximize every factor, including having an army bigger than 225 after 3AW, then you still only reach 175, which is only barely enough to reach the second best result at the first relevant calculation in the beginning of the war. I believe that 90% of players will end up somewhere between 140-170 size, which is only covered by 2 out of the 6 results. I think you need to tighten the restrictions on the top and bottom results so that the players realistically can end up with different results.

Zyrus

Did you intentionally make the Ginasta fight harder? I just tried it three times, and Varia had literally everything blocked by her after a certain point. Without Varia, you simply don't put out enough DPS to get through her endurance power, especially if you don't bring Aka with disabling assault.

XJ84

Hi Sierra, thought I'd just give some thoughts on the balancing side of the war, now that I've spent a lot of time going through it (many thanks to Duke's spreadsheet). Overall I think the in-war variable balancing, stuff like the fronts and whatnot, are done very well. I especially like the tradeoff between opening/not opening the ruins; it's not mandatory by any stretch, but it does confer some nice benefits (especially with regard to Zirantia score, at least for my run). Tower Front check is kinda brutal near the end but I think that's a good thing, more constraints make things more fun for the minmaxers. I agree that the Gryndine River section has some very lenient thresholds (FWIW I have 49 religion and 65 acceptance going into the war, but my run is pretty optimized). I don't really agree with one of the above poster's on army quality though; it does take a decent chunk of forethought to hit the 40 quality IMO. Army size I can see how everybody sort of falls into the 150-174 bracket, never really thought about that. I suppose whether or not that's a bad thing is up to you (and whether or not that's true, I only really pay attention to runs that emphasize the same things that I do). Will write more as things come to mind.

DankPotatoes

Hey again Sierra. I've done a bit of nerding with the spreadsheet and summarized every complaint or thought i had. Hope it helps with balancing: -The Erosian Captives do very little when considering how far out of your way you had to go during The Erosian Crisis to capture them. Perhaps rebalance The Erosian Front so that they add more than 1 point? -It seems pretty harsh that The Impaler will die, no matter what if only you fail to gain the Synod’s support OR didn’t support the orcs with spells. It may just be coping with loss, but maybe it’s worth lowering the requirement by 1 point? -While preparing for Tanurak I found investing MP to be impossible for Simon, for the simple reason that his maximum Mana wasn’t above 500, like Riala or Robin. This only seems more likely for lower level players. Maybe replace some of the lost MP with HP instead? -I thought it was a bit strange that the Base Magic and Military requirements for best results during the Counterattack Check hadn’t changed since The Erosian Crisis, or were even lower. At this point I think it’s fair to demand that some players have reached 30 in both stats, especially since they had 4 chances to invest in Bae Defenses -I agree with those who say the Elven Negotiations are rather easy to max out, especially with that ridiculously low Religion score requirement. That being said, I hope the airship counter will be much more relevant in the future, as going out of your way to invest early in airships is very costly and harms your maximum potential when it comes to investing -I think getting a good Ghenalon Support result on the battlefield is juuuust a tad to easy. Even if Dari hasn’t joined yet, and without Demonic Research you can still max out.

DukeLeto7

OK, SL, I've come up with what strikes me as a problem. I felt clever for figuring out that you could use Dominate on the Shadow Succubus enemy in the Fucklord's Tower are to recharge Simon and Riala's MP pools when it's last opponent standing. OK. And we were told not to attempt to control the Incubus Emperor's orcs way back in the Battle of the Passes because that would alert him and every other shardholder that Simon was in the game. We were also told that our defeating and de-brainwashing Riala would be sensed by the Incubus Emperor, but written off because he simply assumed the Doom KIng was raping and dominating her. So Incubus Kings can sense instantly when other Incubus Kings dominate one of "their" servants. And we are infiltrating the Fucklord's Tower pursuant to making a surprise assassination attempt on Estaven. So are the Shadow Succubuses under Estaven's control, and shouldn't dominating one of them alert him that another IK is messing around his Tower defenses, blowing the operation?
