- New segment finishing the Gathering- 2 new scenes- Equipment from dead orcs is now given back to you prior to the orc event.- More healing for parties in between segments.- New character bust art thanks to Lamsey.- 4 new illustrated scenes: Aka x Tentacles, Carina + Qum, Iris Doggy, Balia Table

I described this update last week, so I won't repeat myself. This is the culmination of several major threads, so I hope that people enjoy it. Beneath the surface to varying degrees, you'll also see the consequences of your work so far in the Gathering. Though I tried to find a reasonable balance, it almost certainly requires some reworking.

I described being exhausted in a $10 post recently, but I've actually been feeling great most of today. I have a lot of highs and it was fun finishing this update. But I predict that as that wears off, I'll be pretty tired. Though I hope to be as present as normal during the release period, I may need to step back at times. Also, maybe put the public update two weeks out even though this one isn't huge. We'll see.

The next weekly update will come out after the weekend so that it can coincide with a minor announcement. Look forward to another writing thing, but meanwhile, please enjoy the update!

Why would you release it as im about to go to work now i wont be able to focus ar work 😭😭

Big windows in the Alabaster hall on either side of the clock are clippable.

Ripe

Ummm, if you use waiting room save from 52.x to start the chapter you have Xestris in the baths at Yhilin palace at start... which is something I don't think should happen considering the conversation.

John Smith

Bug?: The white-haired girl says we broke our agreement to not fight the Lustlord as part of Nyst's thing. But we never fought him directly, only bypassed the Empress's domain & gave Mestran some mana

werewindle

Picking tower exploration after the incubus tower defence game leads to a black screen after winning the fight against the crystals.

Edward Culham

By the way, I have started another game and there is something that I am curious about. Getting the second house of Pititions is required that you killed the chosen right after coming into power. Though I was unable to do to having to low acceptance. Wondering if that is planned or an oversite.

Captain Hair

Whew. That was a roller coaster of a finish. And so many ramifications! Bugs seemed limited. Noticed the window clipping (Chaya was apparently flying around the room) almost immediately. Main issue I noticed was a handful of instances of revised lines not being deleted, including, amusingly, your "final thoughts" message on the wait screen. I can't remember the instances of the others as of yet, I'll have to go back through it. One thing that is odd. Ginasta and Sabitha (and now Esthera) are not on Yarra's harem list. I thought you fixed those first two. Storywise.... yeah. Big stuff happened. Wasn't expecting the twofer at the end, but it was nice to see both those two get their due. And the twist with the Lustlord's harem was so petty of him. Such a petulant child. The Anak, well I can't say I didn't see his last scene coming, but given how devoted Xestris was during this whole thing I kinda did. I get the feeling if he dies, it's gonna be to his hidden opponent, and it's gonna be a death due to his own hubris. Minor Kings, let's see. Lord of Blood is gonna get bitchslapped eventually, that much is obvious. Other than that I can only say Mestan better not get himself hollowed out by Lilith with this "go it alone" crap. The Pan Succubus Council was nice. Nicer still was that I didn't have to Gawnfall that thing. So much redoing was done during Gawnfall. The defensive event wasn't really anything to write home about, although some of the interactions were nice. The rebuilding defenses scene was good fun. It's always worth reading when Simon gets tired of Trin's crap. Noticed she wasn't around during the debrief. Now where could she be, hmm? I'll admit, that's a perfect way to keep her relevant in the story. Much better than more random people to copy. Last things I can really think of to say: It's always fun when the Doom King mask comes off, the Lustlord's reaction being no exception, and watching Aka continue to say "Fuck it" and embrace Yarra's mentality will never not make me laugh.

DukeLeto7

It looks as though Philon is now at a Beige alert. Xerces has no strong feelings one way or the other. If he doesn't survive, tell Xestris he said "Hello.".

Runcible Technician

That was an awesome update, I'm really getting the 'game is ending soonish' vibes of culmination and revelation in this. I played through with a fairly optimized save, but I could tell that there was a loooot of stuff that could have gone differently. It's gonna be fun to play through a few times. But, this being an early release, I should mention the bugs. Aside from the speech overflow and clipable terrain mentioned, I had Uyea get trapped in the library as Simon spoke with Robin and Riala and thereafter become unreachable. Also, I had a very strange moment (at the yhilin palace at the end) when I came back from one of the conversations that take you to a side room and suddenly it reset the dialogue for about half the sprites on screen, but not all of them. I don't know if it was set to a variable or just reset on the map loading again, but it was clearly not intentional.

werewindle

That was a great showdown, you caught me off guard with the conclusion, I didn't expect you'd go for that guy's throat in such a rush, plus the Empress twist as well... welp, nice. Anyway, a small bug... When back in Yhilin palace at the end of the update, Wendis's text scrolls out her picture. Also a bit of an annoyance: When I was rescuing Ginasta, I didn't have a proper weapon for her, so I just handed her Simon's battle axe, cause his support was more important in that fight. But now I'm hours of playtime and days of gametime later, and Simon is still weaponless. I mean, it doesn't technically affect anything, since Simon doesn't fight in his regular form throughout the summit... but it's a bit annoying. How disruptive would it be to add some basic ass sword in a chest before the Ginasta rescue fight? edit: Oh and I gotta say, I'm running a fairly optimized party, but I did poor Lustlord dirty with Hilstara/Aka/Carina. HIlstara drawing hits, boosting eva, Aka debuffing constantly, Carina on pretty lazy heal service... I felt I didn't even need Robin as the 4th and could've gone with Varia to just speed the HP grind up, heh. Not really complaining, but yeah it was pretty easy.

Troqu

I've been doing a new playthrough the last couple weeks. Man this game is great and it's been a while (the last thing I have concrete memories of is the final major vote of the Gawnfall council, not the minor ones) I've enjoyed the revisit. Downloaded the new build to continue and believe I found a bug: The section where you're playing as Ginasta just before the gathering has the Anak's second in command near the pools. The conversation references things that I'm quite sure haven't happened yet, but I might have just missed some thread in the various open world segments. Also as much as I enjoyed this replaying of the game. I can't ever see myself going through it all again as is. While some of the 90 hours so far is definitely just letting it sit there while I did something else (eat, use the bathroom, etc) most of it is pure game time and a LOT of it is combat with small enemies. I know there are checks in the game that punish you for cheating, but is there any chance for getting like a new game plus once it's all over, that would make it easier to breeze through and enjoy the excellent story and see some of the divergences (I went with keeping the church whole, but I'd like to see the new succubi religion one day, or have a game with an alternate Altina) or just a way to disable cheating checks somehow so I can go ham without hurting myself? I like most bosses in the game (tower nodes are becoming a big asterisk here), but constantly feeling like I need to kill everything I see unless there's a story reason not to (not just for the flags that check stats, but also just to keep things manageable) is what would hold me back from a third major playthrough at this time.

Actual Personman

I have run into a very interesting problem. I'm playing through the content again to see what changes with different choices, and was surprised to see that during Ginasta's initial scene with the rest of the harem, that Xestris is still standing next to the pool area. This is from a save prior to the current game version. I have no idea what's going on, but there's some RPGmaker fuckery, clearly. This now happens after closing and opening the application as well. Continuing to bug test.

Seil

So, that happened. Regarding the final fight. I am not sure how many factors were at work (for example Xestriss helped) but Varia, Carina, Ginasta and Vhala didn't have any trouble whatsoever. Ginasta was mostly on the debuff duty, Carina kept defenses up and healed and Varia just Blade Danced every round with Vhala helping out some with Arrow of Abstinence. Now onto the events. I went to get as many Vunne points as possible and in the end she survived and asked for our help. I assume she might actually die if her points are low. As such Tanurak won the Nyst's event. Also went along with Trin's plan. Trin and Tanurak's scene. I am not sure how the dialogue differs if she's not locked but i enjoyed their interaction. Plus the talk with her afterwards. "Do yo trusts me? => Yes. => Then forget it". Apparently cooking has been super effective and from what i can read we did really good. Sabitha being there was a nice touch. Nom nom nom. Judging by Riala's reaction the pan-succubi council also has been a huge success. Now what i am confused about is Philon severing all the ties, even though i did a lot to influence Anak and the value should have been super high. Or maybe that's the reason why. Can't really say without looking at internal numbers. The final talk in Yhilin Palace. Getting Esthera to join the harem happened sooner than expected. Seeing her asleep in the morning was really sweet. Had a really long chat with Xestris. Is she going to be more permanent member of Simon's team? Also somehow Tertia dropped by 3 points and i am not quite sure why. Maybe it was the Trin's Ravaging Conquers, but eh. Sorry about this being sorta a messy wall of text, but those are mostly my initial thoughts on the matter

Zaq Reman

So, obviously there's a lot to unpack here, but I want to focus on the most important part: that monster invented pop and we encouraged her and said it would be a hit with kids. No matter what other good we've wrought, this world is doomed and it's our fault :p

Lamsey

Spoiler warning: do not read if you have not played yet. ... ok, I was expecting it to go to shit, but not quite like that. The endgame definitely feels like it's starting to loom significantly, so I find myself speculating more than usual. The Incubus King herd is definitely thinning now, at least in terms of significant players, though the Lord Of Blood threw up a few surprises so I'm still wondering just how much knowledge and power he will turn out to hold. Xerces's casual dismissal of Xestris came as a surprise - I find myself wondering if he's deliberately manipulating her into working with Simon for some unknown reason. If it is a ploy and she's part of it, then it's very subtle, since she seems genuine. My suspicion that Xerces is "that monster who has Zelica" is strengthened by the further ominous hints about the Theoson harvesting. Still wondering who is behind the Ivalan manipulations, though. I think everyone from the Anak's earlier "gift of knowledge" is accounted for, if we assume Alonon is one of the Arclentian unknowns and the unseen manipulator is the other. Oh, wait, I've got it. Annah is too obvious, so it must be that Sanctified Priestess outside the sisters' chambers in Feroholm. That's one hell of a Chekhov's Nun. I wonder how much longer the fiction of the Doom King will last. It seems like everyone who matters knows, and Tanurak is hardly the discreet type. I'm interested in Trin's plans too. I find myself trusting her despite the obvious reasons not to. Nyst's event is an interesting little puzzle. I wasn't clear on how much mana I needed to keep in reserve for defence, so more experimentation needed there. Lots more in general, in fact. I seem to be getting the second-best result in a lot of things, including the orc event this time around for some reason. It also seems like there's only five investigation opportunities, unless I missed something. Going to be tricky to choose... The Lustlord felt appropriately durable, and I liked the transition from the initial unwinnable fight to Simon playing support and letting the rest of the party have at him. The final battle was pretty straightforward, though. It was fun pounding on him with all guns (Varia, Vhala, Robin) blazing and Carina keeping everyone topped up, but I never felt like I had to get out of third gear.

Zaq Reman

As far as the Lustlord fight, I didn't have much trouble either (couple unlucky deaths but I was able to rez them and keep going), but I'm not sure it should be buffed based on these early returns. The Venn diagram of people who give feedback on a new update within 18 hours of its release and people with (near-)optimized saves (in terms of combat meaning no missed stat buffs or experience, full Sublime+Unique gear for at least one full party, etc) has to be almost concentric circles. If you make encounters that push us to our limits I suspect those encounters will be a nightmare for the median player.

Khinzaw

Great update! I just wanted to point out that I encountered a bug. For the final investigation I chose to map the tower and after finishing that the next section wouldn't load. I had to chose the other remaining option to progress.

DankPotatoes

Well holy fuck damn, you did it again Sierra. Probably my favorite chapter 5 update so far. My hands were actually noticibly shaking for the last 20 minutes of the gathering, after shit went south. Excellent conclusion to the Lustlord and Empress' conflict, though I did find myself wondering why the Lustlord never made use of his power before in his previous fights, when he appears to be leagues stronger than any of previously fought Incubus kings, and Esthera herself. I don't know if half a line of dialogue explaining why he doesn't do that usually. "argh, going super sayincubus 3 hurts my very soul, but you left me no choice", or something a bit more well-written. As for balance, he was a bit of a pushover. I realize that there is a large difference between various player party power levels (say that 10 times, in quick succession), but I actually found myself struggling more against the common enemies from 0.52, in his base. I suspect that the average player will be able to deduce, on the save screen before the fight, that you fight him as a solitary enemy, and you can suspect that his strengths and weaknesses are similar to previously fought Incubus Kings. At this point in the game, no player is a novice. They have made it through around 60 hours of gameplay, at the very least, and I'm guessing they can make a solid guess at which party members are best for the fight. So I suppose, what I'm overexplaining is that I think he could use a buff. Tanurak is getting scary, Trin is breaking my heart, and I hope to God we can prevent her from turning 100% Anakin. Though everything about her temptation with chaos has been set up excellently from a storytelling perspective, since she was introduced way back in chapter 1, so great job. In other words: Thanks, I hate it. Nysts little strategy game was a fun idea, but I felt like I was stumbling around in the dark even more than usual when playing new updates. There is little hinting or clues as what is the smartest course of action. Nyst is a pushover, but Fireboy and Lord of Assholes can't actually be hurt? Maybe some pondering on Simon's part when interacting with new opponents, might add some clarity, but Idk. It might also make it too easy. I find myself liking Ginasta more and more in recent updates. I like her as a foil to Simon, since having the leader of the magical illuminati surrounded by countless "yes-men" is a bit sinister. While Simon, and everyone close to him are benevolent in actions and motivations, it's still nice to have someone question him, and if it will always be so. Hope to see her front and center for the rest of chapter 5. The "find Xestris" mini-roam section felt a bit... empty. As any other completionist lunatic I ran around the entire city to check for new dialogue, only to find that pretty much no one had anything new of significance to say except Mestan and Xestris herself. What felt like a minor waste of time could easily be turned into a fun section with no more but a few new quotes from the citizens of the empire, or some minor characters like Chaya making an apperance. Just a comment or two on the results of the gathering to get that dopanine flowing. Minor details, I know, but it was the only part of the gathering where i felt my attention drop. As a final, and a bit more personal note, I feel like you seem a bit more... tired? than usual after an update drops, Sierra. I won't presume or meddle, but I hope that you understand that no one will condemn you if you took a break. You still work at 3x the rate of any other patron I know off. We appreciate you, girl! And know that even these petty criticisms that I brought up are minor, in comparison to how much I enjoyed this update.

Noble Ward

Always great to hear from you S.L.!

One succubus mentions formal orgies as a prelude to negotiations, which I'm having fun envisioning different ways. Black ties and jackets with nothing else, and little black dresses with accessible necklines and no panties underneath. Waitstaff walking around with champagne, lube, and champagne lube. (n.b. if it's not made in the Champagne Lube region of the Chalice then it's just sparkling fuck juice)

Kyle S

No idea if it has been covered or if it is my mistake but the agreement between simon's harem and the lustlords harem girl was broken. The only thing I did was trespass through esthera's territory. Is that breaking the agreement? I thought as long as didn't engage him directly it was safe?

Jeffrey Lebowski

Glad to hear you were feeling better and hope you continue to pace yourself. Just got time to play the update and it was fantastic! As you said, it wasn't too long, but it was absolutely packed with story beats and more novel content! I have one major bug to report, which is that Xestris appears in the Yhilin Palace before the Gathering ever begins, which might or might not have caused me to scramble trying to figure out if you added Xestris to Ginasta's extraction from the LL. I absolutely loved the final confrontation with the LL, the culmination of years of tension really paid off in a satisfying way, as was finally reaching the climax of Esthera's arc. The amount of effort you put into paying off all the tension and uncertainty stemming from both characters really shows. I also really enjoyed Nyst's event, though it was a little easy considering you could consume as many mana potions as you wanted. I also just liked being able to walk around in the armor for once. I am really glad that Mestan is more present and I had a lot of fun trying to reach out to him over the course of the Gathering, even if he is being a little shit the entire time. I've also always though Xestris was fascinating and I was really happy with how much we interact with her in the Gathering and that it looks like she will be a bigger presence going forward. She's much more emotional and passionate than her early appearances suggested and I really enjoy seeing her character explored. Overall I really liked the theme of balancing larger goals over the immediate obvious ones with the events, especially in the orc fights (sparing an enslaved OE orc sends an important political message, but is throwing the fight for Nalili really worth the clout and advantage lost during the Gathering?) and with all the negotiation during Nyst's event. Amazing update and now it is once again time for my bi-monthly ritual of pining for the next one XD

WaxerRed

Great update! And one where you didn't wait for the dust to settle on one major event before jumping to the next! That being said I'd think I'd trust the Lustlord at our base more then Xestris! But in all seriousness I hope you feel better SL! And feel free to take as long as a break as you need. Whether it's by working on some other project or just blobing out on the couch for a bit watching TV. We might all be TLS fans, but we are also SL fans as well and just like the game, we aren't happy if you aren't the best you can be!

PZK

Forgot to mention last update, the interactions between Aka and Sabitha are adorable. I'm not sure if that is the reaction you'd hoped for. But either way, i love the direction you took with Sabitha and the way she articulates her nature. :D

FormerHater

Sierra, you've really outdone yourself with this one! So many unexpected and satisfying turns. Unfourtunately I've only had time for 1 quick playthrough but i really enjoyed the couple hours i was able to play! I apreciatted the prize from the anak's competition, i worked hard for it and i was affraid it would end up dissapointed. I'm glad to be proven wrong. I also expected a bit more of a fallout from the Tanurak debacle, considering that at least the Anak knew what and who he is. Though it is interesting to see him play people by mere experience and subtleness. That got me thinking that this update had a very fun and engaging balance between "subtleness" and "overtness" This is what the game has been about for me. Knowing when to fold and knowing when to break. Nyst's game was fairly interesting. after resetintg that specific part a couple of times i was able to keep victory away from Tanurak without burning any bridges. That is something I felt throughout the update. I felt it was too lenient. by merely using some mp pots i was able to share quite a bit of mana, attack and defend impecably with only a few resets and without having to make any particularly hard decission. Both the feast and the council felt like a very interesting change from what we had been used to in the first episodes. A substantial flexing of our political and cultural muscle. I was hoping to see this sort of soft power politics more and these 2 events really hit the spot for me. Raw displays of power will only get you so far when it comes to winning people over your side of the compass. I was mostly satisfied with the results. Even this part alone inspires me to play through big parts of the game again to see if i can get even better results. Once I actually find the time, that is... I had expected to see the weaponized chosen ones again and their return was most certainly a blast, no pun intended. To see everyone react to a direct attack was very interesting. Things definetly went volatile very fast. The exasperation of the situation by Tanurak was fun to behold. But it takes me to the part that left a sour taste on my mouth. The fight with the Lustlord honestly felt like a joke. The 3 volatile chosen ones were much more of a threat than either of the Lustlord's forms. I don't know if he just never really unleashed his good attacks on me or if he just failed them outright, because with him being vulnerable to debuffs a convined effort from Aka and Ginasta's debuff skills had him on check on the first part. constant defense debuffs and heals from Carina were enough to stall indefinetly and to be honest Simon was just there to look the part. I never really felt threatened and was thinking on a different strategy to start dealing more damage but then the combat just stopped. It felt quite anticlimactic and not threatening at all, definetly not what i had wished for in what had been presented and foreshadowed as an endgame country level menace. While the entire context and situation of the battle was engaging the battle itself was not. I don't know if i inadvertedly ended up fighing a much weaker form of the lustlord because I had the same composition as before and just had Varia replace Simon for pure raw damage and not once did i actually feel even one of my party memebers could potentially fall, let alone lose the battle. Perma debuffs from Aka and Ginasta made it so that even after he buffed himself he never really got a chance to attack in order to show off his buffs. Carina kept everyone healed and kept the shields up and Varia just did what she does and kicked the Lustlord's ass pretty decicevly. The entire segment after the battle was pretty satisfying and intense, a lot of things no longer weight my mind as much. I am very happy to see the Empress willing to live at least a bit longer and try to find a bit of joy in her life and in her bed. The world has been opened a whole lot more so i look forward to what will come next. The dialogues with Xestris were great, and having such information revealed felt necessary given everything that had happened. Xestris, oh Xestris. This feels like a ploy from the Anak, i doubt he really just figured she was a liability and left her to die just like that. He is definetly cold blooded but i don't see just how that would make sense, perhaps she will be used against us later on without her consent is what i'm thinking. But man, Xestris with droopy ears felt like a punch in the gut. I always observed carefully how her expressions changed since it was hard to completely guess what she thought and felt behind that mask but seeing her so vulnerable and hurt really flipped her character in the blink of an eye and made me want to give the girl a good old hug. I read that the next update will probably take some time and i think it's fine. These 2 last updates really gave many things to savor for a long time. Even if I won't be able to truly sink my teeth into this update for some time I think I will be sated for a while. I won't have much free time until early December anyways. As a last comment i would just like to ask to see if the combat balance can be re-adressed in future updates. I realize that it had to be beatable to even weaker parties but I don't feel like the most min-maxed guy, and even then this felt like a walk in the park. Without anything else to add i wish you the best and hope you managed to enjoy this october. Remember to look at the night sky for the gifts October holds for us! Cheers!

After I did the territory minigame and tried to do a mapping in the investigation room, my screen went to black and I could not do anything besides going to menu or quitting.

Fulminato

very good update, i was expecting some fire crackling in the end, but for sure not an horde of self-explosive chosen ending with the lustlord death (from some 'pattern' in the code i was thinking/hoping about his premature demise, but not at the end of the gathring itself) in the code the only thing i found 'odd' was again the event leaving LL rooms. the [inv lustlord] -1 (variable #0361) for leaving with the key is present only in the last page (day six, point to the second climax visit) not the previous pages. in regard of the balancing. i realy HOPE the ability of obtain all the "good" result in the pan-succubus council if you spare orgasmic orc during solo competition and save all LL harem is intended. [i'm talking about switches and material effect, not about max stats gain]. i found a couple of combination for achive this. the first is a "double sapience increase and orgy zirantian plan" [try1] the other is a "double magic increase and orgy slave plan" [try2] https://www.dropbox.com/s/6iknb567ltbzkxk/Try1.txt?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ptpajjge3qefu5j/Try2.txt?dl=0 in detail you need a gathering influence and gathering philon 10 for OE-Philon trade. at least gathering orgasmic 8 for slavery reform and obv gathering rodak 7 for LL harem. the obvious choice, free gains and best result in the events will bring Gathering Influence: 13, Gathering Orgasmic: 7, Gathering Rodak: 2, Gathering Philon: 4 with 14 'points' to allocate. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ndkbba9ic2lwvx/Blank.txt?dl=0
