Early update post because I'm hoping to start next week fresher.

I spent much of the week trying to get Steam achievements to work, with nothing to show for it. I've received some very kind help trying possible solutions, but in the end I'm no closer than I was with Ouroboros. I currently hate everything. I can be bad with delegation, so it really grates that the one time I'd happily pay money to never touch something again, I can't.

This has been a rough week in general, and maybe I'll get into it more later. Do see my recent blog post for a few links, such as my special sale ending this weekend. Another thing I got finished this weekend is an essay about progression fantasy on Reddit, which you can read if you like.

Since I'm going to be less productive over this weekend, I might as well try to do some more promotion. I'm doing my best with OEA, for example with in the feature article linked above. I also feel like I should try some promotion on Reddit, so if anyone knows of subreddits that would allow NSFW promotion, please let me know. For example, are there places that would find Ulfina cute? Adult jRPG subs? I might as well shoot my shot, but I'd like to target places that would legitimately be interested in the content.

Anyway, that is all for now. Apologies for delayed responses to comments and emails. I intend to have the public TLS update out this coming weekend.

r/lewdgames seems to be the most active one I've seen. r/wholesomehentai is pretty active and might be amenable to art posting. I'm not sure about his reach, but there's this guy on Twitter that goes by @mrhands31 that sends out a mailing list I subscribe to. May also be worth asking if he knows any other places to plug your stuff.

sierralee

Appreciate the suggestions! r/wholesomehentai was completely new to me, and sounds like a good match, but I think their rules state that only doujins are allowed.

Desertopa

There's also /NSFWGaming in addition to LewdGames if you aren't aware of that one already. WholesomeHentai is all doujins, but you could try TheGoodHentai, HuggingHentai, and maybe FemgazeHentai for any promotional materials which significantly feature Wilhelm.

I had no idea Steam achievements were such an obstacle. I wish I could offer any assistance with that. I've figured that I'll probably have to work them out at some point, but hadn't really given them much thought, because I figured, so many other small-scale developers have implemented them, it can't be that complicated, right? So I'm pretty dismayed myself to learn that that's not the case.

sierralee

Ah, let me reassure you there. Steam achievements are almost effortless in Ren'Py, and there are scripts that make them work for VX and VX Ace, as easily as any other script command. But for RPG Maker MV, the process is more laborious and when it fails there's no error message about why. Other developers have made them work in MV, of course, and I'm a bit angry at myself for not being able to work it out. However, I think that most of those projects have less custom code modifying the workings of the engine.

Steam achievements is something I'm looking forward to too, but base quality over extras. I'd much rather see the game get a conclusion that's just as good/better than the game leading up to it than have an icon that says I sat through an alright one.

sierralee

Thanks, I will look into those!

sierralee

I appreciate your support and grateful for everyone who feels that way! I'm just trying to cast as wide a net as possible, and achievements are said to drive sales.

I'm sorry to hear this week was not kind to you. Hopefully you'll be able to breakthrough soon with regards to Steam achievements. For the dlsite post, congrats on being listed first with OEA! That's exciting. One note from the article though: > And that makes it even more convenient to navigate to those all-important H scenes, of which there are more than 150! I think most people will think that means different scenes and not art for those scenes. I'm aware of 32 scenes but I'd believe 150+ CGs. Just wanted to point this out. I read both the reddit essay and the previous one linked in there. They were both super interesting. I appreciate you writing up your thoughts there. I shared both the essays and the dlsite link with people I think will also appreciate them. I hope next week is better for you!

sierralee

Yeah... I do agree that text is misleading, but since I didn't write or approve it, I'm not going to raise the issue. The Steam page lists the correct numbers, which includes 150+ images. So I will take the extra wishlists guilt free.

Jeffrey Lebowski

Sorry, I can't really help you with finding new places to promote since I am not active on many forums or online spaces. But I did create a secondary steam account to wishlist OEA and do my part to boost your numbers just a bit. Also just read your essay and think it is really interesting! I hope next week is better for you.

sierralee

Haha, I wasn't urging making new accounts, but every wishlist helps!

Jeffrey Lebowski

Haha sorry to say I didn't make a new account to wishlist twice (*gasp* wishlist fraud XD), just because I want to keep my adult content separate

Darthjake

Wish I'd thought of that a few years back..... :/

Jeffrey Lebowski

Haha I'm sure NSFW devs everywhere thank you for your sacrifice

Very minor bug report unrelated to new content. In the Erosian War Fucklord's Tower map (the larger map underneath the main Fucklord's Tower node) it is possible to move right off of the ladder at coordinates (055,022) and (055,023) onto the small three tile platform there, but direction fix is set on while climbing, so the actor just crab walks around the platform constantly facing up. This would be fixed by either direction fix on events at (055,022) and (055,023) and direction fix off events at (056,022) and (056,023) or some simple blocking events at (056,022) and (056,023).

DukeLeto7

Another minor one from the same source. In the event at (002,000) at Headquarters B1, the event code that moves Robin's sprite down appears to be taking until after the fade in to complete processing, so it happens in view of the player. I confirmed the report on my own system using a save from the reporting player, which I can upload if needed. It looks like a 30 frame wait between the movement and the fade in will solve the issue, and a matching edit to the event at (003,000) may be needed. This suggests that the size of the game may be starting to put a strain on VX Ace.

sierralee

Though it could potentially have to do with the size of the game (more likely the number of events on the map), my first thought is that it might be caused by the base customization fade in overriding the event in question. I do not have the saves or energy to test this, but if you do, does the 30 frame wait help? I assume we're talking about the "Set Event Location" right at the beginning. If the issue truly is the customization parallel process, then even a long wait wouldn't have an effect. If the issue is something else, then I don't get it, but will make the necessary fixes.

DukeLeto7

I'll mess with it and let you know. It might be possible to work around the issue with two Robin events.

DukeLeto7

Well, that was easy, the wait was totally ineffective. This is true for patching both the (002,000) and the (003,000) events, as the reporting player gave me autosaves for both. Honestly, I think just having a separate Robin event for the later two scenes is the way to go here.

sierralee

Unless the separate Robin event is controlled by a switch that's already set when that event begins, it will cause the same issue. The other option is to temporarily suppress the parallel process (which is already done for some scenes). Either way, I need to know the relevant switches and I'm not going to be checking any time soon.

DukeLeto7

OK, I've managed to hash together a solution that appears to work and doesn't create any new problems. It's a little involved so I can message you with either the edited rvdata2 map files or screenshots of the relevant code pages. Alternately, I can pass them for review to Decanter. Or you can work it out yourself from the below description. The relevant switches for the three scenes are 2851: Headquarters Scene Mode, 2853: Fucklord Disappears, and 2857: Robin Aftermath. Here's the gist. (Current) Robin Event 1 only appears in the scene @ 001,000 (Charging Simon's Spirit Bomb), it is visible when 2851 is on and it is hidden when 2853 is on. Robin Event 2 lives at the edge of the pool and is visible when 2851 AND 2853 are on. It disappears when 2857 is on. This is because Simon (the party actor) pops under Robin Event 2 when warping into the scene at (003,000), and there is a lag before the party is made transparent. We simply work around this by adding Robin to the party and removing Simon before making the player transfer, and have the party facing down, so Robin is now the party leader and actor. (The location of this event is Map 584: Order of Thaumaturgy Guildhall, Event coordinates (012,007), page 2.) The party transparency and movement commands to Robin Event #1 are deleted. The normal Ch4 party lineup is restored by the event at the after Robin Aftermath cutscene.

sierralee

I don't know if Decanter has the bandwidth for it, but it would be good to check these with someone else, because I've made some changes to those maps myself and I'm not up for a complex integration.

DukeLeto7

I used the 0.60.2 code, so unless the mods are in the latest build it should be fine. I'll run it past Fulminato and Grim8P in addition to Decanter, since they ought to be able to comment on the code intelligently.
