Two new pieces of fanart today, each exploring a fantasy scenario that wouldn't be included in the game! These are Robin and Sho expressing their affection for dwarves and orcs, respectively.

That aside, the TLS release is public now. I wouldn't say I'm tired, exactly, but I am creatively very inconsistent right now. Huge energy for some things, none at all for others. I will need to get that under control, because OEA is coming out next month - not that long at all, really.

Thanks to all who gave suggestions for promotion. Between everything, we've actually had  a big surge in wishlists, getting within a hundred of the lowest tiers of indie stardom. I meant to do more promotion this weekend, but it didn't happen.

Anyway, more updates next weekend, hopefully reporting a variety of kinds of productivity.

More than get it under control ill say you should just let it flow, we all know how the muse is with inspiration, it comes and goes as well as the mood, sho is cute but its clear she sees orcs just as friends (so far) and for robbin, i have always wonder if she will get a scene with someone ells like the rest of the harem or if she will be exclusive like she is now

Jeffrey Lebowski

Lol I literally just found the conversation you added to Wynn's quest at the Fuckball arena. Amazing stuff XD Exciting that OEA is nearing release!

sadcat

No not robin :(

Jeffrey Lebowski

Well, she did get that scene with Qum (but who can say no to those puppy dog eyes), so I'd be completely unsurprised if she at least has a threesome with Riala at some point.

WaxerRed

Robin's dedication to the dwarf cum joke has really gotten next level! And it seems THAT was part of Sho's duties back when she worked at the orc pools, who knew!?

Reddy Bread

Yea i would say the Sho 1 is more realistic shes cute and shy but she got really flustered when they joked about her with the Orc's. I assume this was at the request of that genericname guy? He/she have a really great imagination haha. I like demonic Robin better then regular robin but the Sho 1 was def 1 I would have liked to see happen. Its good to be part of this community.

sierralee

Yes, perhaps I should have said these were commissioned by genericname12345. But they're from the same artist as before, so I figured people would recognize them.

A couple very minor reports from .3: > Typo: the givini mage guild instructor who disappears and reappears while Wynn is working on her test says "I'm we can get back to normal" just looks like a missing word. >(Actually from 0.59) Dialogue consistency: In Ardford during the IW aftermath, talking to the "lecherous priestess" IF Trin copied her during the Ardford Succession Crisis AND Trin is alive, Carina commands the copy to "free her women." However, when we first copied her, we only directly saw her with male prostitutes (or economically enslaved sex workers or whatever the nuance in that situation is) and its implied that she probably has women as well. So maybe change that to a gender-neutral reference at some point. A quest question: > Are we going to get another Crystal of Stability at any point, or are the Orcsphere and Sanctity Plate going to be purely mutually exclusive? A conversation suggestion for some point down the road: > Altina (especially sane version) might be able to relate with Simon about being captured, tortured, broken mentally, and having a slow recovery. It's not exactly a unique perspective in the harem: Riala had her mind borked, Wendis obviously was tortured for a subjective eternity and her mind broke, Ginasta has been captured and tortured many times. But Riala recovered very abruptly because she sequestered a portion of her mind, Wendis had a rather opposite reaction to Simon: more explosive than implosive, and torture never really broke Ginasta: being manipulated and killing an innocent person did. So I think Altina would be the person most able to relate to him on that (if that's a good conversation to add at all, but I have really liked Altina's growing social and interpersonal influence in these recent updates after so long spent mostly as a combat mage who added a bit of elven perspective to negotiations). Though now that I think about it, Altina actually has much clearer parallels to Mythin, and there is an interesting angle to explore regarding their different decisions about allowing Simon to reshape them. A couple of lore questions: >At the end of the first stage of the Incubus War, Xerces seemed troubled by a particular ally of Simon's, saying that "The Tower entity in league with Simon gave [him] pause." Who was he referring to? My guess is Ginasta since she is an actual mechanism of reality, but he could also be referring to Wendis or Sabitha, which would change the framing of why he would be troubled by such an alliance. >This could be another instance of me totally overthinking things so I want to ask: was Ginasta's Tower role forcing her to hyperfixate on Incubus Kings? Her passion was clearly her own, but she seemed to completely fixate on Incubus Kings, was nearly incapable of engaging in a productive conversation on ethics with Simon because he was one, and was weirdly dismissive of the tyrannical potential of goddesses. Given that she is a balancing force and the active King/Goddess ratio was very much skewed towards Kings, I've long assumed that her perception of what constitutes a threat was manipulated by the Tower. But it could also just simply be the shown fact that Ginasta does really not enjoy introspection or interrogating her philosophy (given that she reacts in anger and tries to aggressively reject or flee such conversations) and is often overly secure in various convictions. Assuming my guess is accurate and not another paranoid "Xerces orchestrated every major event in Chapter 5" level theory, would Ginasta regaining her powers trap her in her role again (as its implied that entities like Lilith and Ginasta are bound and potentially consumed by their roles, I've found it odd that harem members like Aka and Yarra are encouraging her to try to regain her powers)? Or was her metaphysical epiphany after the Erosian War sufficient to empower her to take charge of her role rather than her role take charge of her? Of course, that last set of questions only makes sense if I wasn't totally off track on my role-bound Ginasta theory. Ok this came out longer than I intended (as is my wont), so obviously just to ignore it if you don't have the energy for questions/suggestions like these.

Long Tran

Great fanart, but not st sll a fan of the subject matter. Just, not my thing. ...Kinfs picky like that is sll I guess.

DukeLeto7

FWIW, I was under the assumption that the entity that gave Xerces pause was Wendis.

DukeLeto7

(Quietly cancels the order for custom Deepfake Warwick Davis/Peter Dinklage porn he had commissioned for Long Tran's birthday...)

Jeffrey Lebowski

That was my first assumption as well, but then I switched to Ginasta because she is a "balancing" entity and that is kind of Xerces (purported) thing

DukeLeto7

I'm going to invoke the privilege of asking a possible spoiler question because I've found a fix for PartySwitch. (I'm trying to get as many other bugfixes into a build for Decanter to review this evening.) It might actually not be a spoiler though since the two characters most likely to explain it are canonically dead. Why did Tanurak say that the Incubus Prison was the creation of Alonon? Was he lying or mistaken, and why in either case?

Jeffrey Lebowski

Given that Mithyn reported that the unknown agent was a woman (and we saw the silhouette) at a time when Simon was already in the prison, I interpreted it as an obvious lie Tanurak was telling just because he's a general asshole who lied like all the time and to keep Simon off balance. Given the multiple little lies he told throughout that section and during Palina's scene, he just seemed to be aggressively bullshitting Simon for fun and to goad him into easily countered attacks

sierralee

DukeLeto7: Tanurak was 100% lying there. His first goal was to potentially disturb Simon, but in the likely event that he couldn't kill Simon, he hoped to mislead him. By the way, if you're a glutton for more work, can you or someone else check on the bug V1sible Darkn3ss posted in the 0.60.2 thread? I don't see how the scene could be getting triggered, but it could be just an event I didn't wade through. Jeffrey: A reply to your long comment has been sitting half-finished in my inbox for a while, but I won't finish it until I take care of all the issues. I intend to respond, it will just take a little while.

DukeLeto7

I'll give Mr. Shouldn't Use His Password as a Username's issue a look then... :)

Jeffrey Lebowski

Sierra: Cool sounds good, thanks for intending to respond at all!

Long Tran

@DukeLeto7 HAHAHA! THat was good! Made me chuckle!

DankPotatoes

Highly skilled Tower-walkers don't seem all that surprised at the idea of central Tower mechanisms being subverted or controlled. Xestris didn't sound *that* worried, when she explained that might be Tanuraks plan. On the other hand, Xerces and everyone else aware of Wendis did seem absolutely positive that she had nothing but manevolent and chaotic intentions for the world. Suddenly she's working with a guy who is anything but manevolent and chaotic If I were Xerces, I know which one I would be the most surprised to see working with Simon

Jeffrey Lebowski

Yeah I totally agree with that, though it's been established that Ginasta can't really be "controlled" in the most aggressive sense. I definitely think Wendis would be the most threatening and produce the most "wtf how did did Simon negotiate with Hate Incarnate?" kind of reaction. That could give him pause in the sense of "let me think if I have any weaknesses a being like that could exploit... *chuckles* I'm in danger!" Given that he made a comment about "not even she would be able to stop me" that seems like a reasonable interpretation and was certainly my first one. However, what ultimately made me reconsider my thinking was that this comment was made in the middle of a conversation with Xestris where she was questioning his actual goals and the sincerity of his dedication to the world's balance. Ginasta seems like the Tower entity most inherently in line with Xerces' stated goals. Her role is presumably "designed" (or evolved or manifested or however the structure of the tower came to be) to maintain a balance between the light and dark shards, and possibly other forms of power. This type of balance is something that Xerces has explicitly stated that he is concerned with (though he was obviously obfuscating his primary concerns). If a person can be judged by looking at their enemies, what does it say about Xerces if a core Tower balance mechanism allied itself with an Incubus King she hates to prevent his goals? That could give him pause in the sense that he might want to spare a thought as to whether he is still on the right moral/ethical path. "Maybe I am out of touch? ... no it must be reality itself that is wrong." That is why I think we could learn a lot about how Xerces thinks just by answering this one question. While the line is ambiguous enough that I am not at all confident in any interpretation, I do think the Ginasta interpretation would highlight the currently growing theme that all three of the remaining power players are relatively reasonable (though extremely zealous) people, and that it is a tragedy that neither Xerces or Hester feel like they can really open themselves up to negotiate except for small actions or rethink their plans because they have already gone so far.

sierralee

It took a long time for this short response because I took care of all the things I didn't quote. >Are we going to get another Crystal of Stability at any point, or are the Orcsphere and Sanctity Plate going to be purely mutually exclusive? There will be another during the sidequests. >At the end of the first stage of the Incubus War, Xerces seemed troubled by a particular ally of Simon's, saying that "The Tower entity in league with Simon gave [him] pause." Who was he referring to? My guess is Ginasta since she is an actual mechanism of reality, but he could also be referring to Wendis or Sabitha, which would change the framing of why he would be troubled by such an alliance. Not to cut off this discussion, but these were meant to refer to Wendis. >This could be another instance of me totally overthinking things so I want to ask: was Ginasta's Tower role forcing her to hyperfixate on Incubus Kings? Her passion was clearly her own, but she seemed to completely fixate on Incubus Kings, nearly incapable of engaging in a productive conversation on ethics with Simon, and was weirdly dismissive of the tyrannical potential of goddesses. There's some of both: Ginasta's role turned her toward certain ends, but she influences it as well. No comment regarding her limits or future roles.

Jeffrey Lebowski

>Not to cut off this discussion, but these were meant to refer to Wendis. Haha, I had a feeling this would be the answer! As soon as I put my theory down in words, I just had to start laughing at my mind's tendency to sniff out *the most* convoluted interpretations of any given event or line and start rationalizing it XD. It makes me pretty good at predicting twists, but really easy to fake out with red herrings (including those not at all intended to be red herrings)! Thanks so much for the answers!

Got another minor bit of errata from SeriousBlueJewel. If the Warden of the South quest has not been completed before Simon returns from the Incubus Prison, the party can complete it by departing for the tower library before Simon is healed, and the Elleani first time scene will play even though Simon is not yet ready. SeriousBlueJewel says blocking the depart for the tower library option until Simon is healed is the best way to prevent this. (New Givini/Givino Vinai Courtly Chambers/(057,018)/Page 6) I'm more inclined to make the Elleani First Time conditional on Simon being healed, and let happen it at Elleani's Estate afterwards. Your call. The same situation appears to be true with Neranda and Eustrin Final. There's also the question of Dari and Wynn if some idiot has managed to ignore them until now.

Jeffrey Lebowski

Considering those are tender and possibly cathartic (considering the long-standing romantic tension with both Elleani and Neranda) scenes with people he loves (and the aromatic relationship with Dari), I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to just leave them as they are. Since Sierra's already expressed that she doesn't intend to block off every possible instance of sex, those events can gate content unless she makes a way to trigger those events but delay the sex scenes as you suggested (which might require some dialogue tweaking, especially for Eustrin final), and leaving them would just be easier. But since Ivala and Mithyn's first times are gated by Simon's recovery, I can totally see the opposite argument from a narrative consistency perspective. I think either call would be fine.

sierralee

I never intended to lock off plot sex (Simon is weary, not incapable), but it seems like people are going to keep reporting. Making events happen at multiple times is a large potential source of bugs, so I'm inclined to just add variant dialogue like I did with Tertia. So... Elleani, Neranda, Dari, and Wynn? I will put it on my list of things to do.

DukeLeto7

Sorry, must have missed the whole not intending to lock off plot sex. Duly noted.

DukeLeto7

Addendum. thisgamething reported that the Iris Lingerie scene at the end of her clothing quest is also potentially an issue, although again this one is probably best addressed by alt dialogue. They also thing the Eustrin Final quest is already locked off, but I honestly dunno what they mean. There's also everything in the Base Bed common event to consider, and I guess the restoration of Wendis' body as well.

DukeLeto7

So I'm doing some debugging in the Ardford Royal Retreat map in the IW to try and figure our what the hell was up with Nadassar's disabled menu bug, and I noticed that the Doom King armor is sitting right next to Tyna. And Robin and Carina are discussing Robin wearing it in front of her... This is another one of those abstractions isn't it?

teivel

hi sl, i have a question i needed to ask, quite a few people following a playthrough was missing 5k experience in tower depth section, recently i somehow managed to unsolve the mystery of the disappearing 5k experience, so im just going to ask whether it is intended for one specific enemy to disappear in tower depth section? ( blue wandering enemy in furthest south before the abyss, it disappear after simon recognizing the entity and havent kill the blue enemy ) thanks

sierralee

I believe that enemy disappears so it can't be running around during a cutscene in that area.

teivel

so it is intended thx sl

Jeffrey Lebowski

Ok Patreon ate a comment, but that's for the best since I made an erroneous bug report because I couldn't navigate a map. Other than that: Small bug report that you probably already got from someone. After Robin's Shining Gear event, she just hangs out frozen in Ivala's Pillar. Typo report: After giving the test in the Hall of Mental Strength, Ogront misspells "correlated" (he forgets an r) Also, this time around now that I know how it was supposed to work, I actually had a ton of fun with Wynn's quest! I enjoyed making little notes of places I'd have to come back to and the specific metrics I'd have to improve. Also, managed to find the shining sword this time :)

sierralee

I saw the notification, but figured Patreon ate it. I'm glad the one thing was erroneous, because that one puzzled me. Robin staying is due to me changing her to take more than one round of items, but not giving her a new line of dialogue for when you have nothing. And the typo should be fixed. Anyway, glad you had fun with Wynn's quest! I'm trying to use different feels and mechanics for the different quests, and I figured numbers heavy running around would fit Wynn's test.

Jeffrey Lebowski

Haha yeah that was not the best way to realize I was a blind fool who took the least efficient walking routes every time I entered that building! And ooh that makes me even more excited to see what you do with the other quests

DukeLeto7

"Where are we?" asked Shadow. "Am I on the tree? Am I dead? Am I here? I thought everything was finished. What's real?" "Yes," said Whiskey Jack. "'Yes'? What kind of answer is 'Yes'?" "It's a good answer. True answer, too." -Neil Gaiman, "American Gods"
