We have what may be a first: a fan comic! I hope people enjoy it. So much of this fanart has come from patron Argo The Ratfolk, so I want to thank him especially. He's added so much variety and cuteness to the TLS experience. ^-^

Meanwhile, lots of stuff happened this week, but it didn't trip me up. Simple TLS update out that will hopefully put that bug to rest for good. Also a new image post for $10 backers, if you want to see the new scenes in much higher resolution.

One bit of bad news: I try not to complain excessively about Patreon, but it's almost perverse how they manage to take a step back for every step forward. Recently, I've occasionally not received an email notification for messages, which isn't great. But this is made far worse by the fact that the "messages" tab now doesn't seem to tell you when you have messages. All of which to say: sorry if I seem to ignore your messages. Patreon has done its best to hide them from me.

Okay, I think that's all for now. Lots going on, and you should be hearing about it over the coming weeks!

Captain Hair

You can't convince me that this isn't a spoiler for revealing Mestan's true fate. Obviously Antarion is Mestan in disguise, and his true endgame. He realized that the only way Simon will truly include him is if he becomes a world leader, so he intends to marry Tyna and then essentially ignore her in favor of flirting with Simon.

This is the greatest thing I've seen all week!

Good ol' Patreon. We just have to remind them to put their hearing aid in sometimes.

So we've got a pair of bug reports from Discord and the forum for your attention. First is a problem with one of the special Tanurak boss battles after the 2nd Gathering. The player had been using Autosave for the free roam section in question, and when they went to fight the "Pure Sex Bosses" in Esthera's throne room, they were automatically saved in the autosave slot, but were unable to beat the bosses. But the autosave was from when they first entered the Tower Altar map, just before the fight with the bosses started but after you were committed to it. Since their last regular save was ~7 hours previous, this caused them to lose a lot of progress. I think this can be handled with a simple script toggle and I'm going to experiment with that this weekend, unless you don't think it's worth looking at. But if we turn off autosave before these three fights, it raises the question as to whether we should ever allow an autosave to be made at a point where it commits the player to a fight on loading. And finding all of them would be a monumental pain in my ass. (But I have some ideas.) So let me know what you think of that. The other issue is that it seems that for players who missed Robin's transformation research at the end of Ch 3, her transformed form appears without any introduction in Ch 5, either in the Extradimensional HQ before the Ginasta rescue mission or during the Wendis rebodying, whichever happens first. If you want to address this, I think the logical way and place would be either the Chapter 5 new powers introduction at Headquarters Courtyard (000,001) OR at the tail end of the conversation before you return to HQ after meeting Tertia and showing her the Deepwilds Shrine (Deepwilds Shrine (028,006)). Probably better to have it at the end of the extended excursion from HQ. That added conditional would have Robin pop her head into the conversation if switch 2019 Robin Crystal is off to note that she has her new transformation to demonstrate yada... yada... yada..., then you can add another page to Robin's sprite event allowing the latecomers to see the Robin Transformation scene. Ugh. Researching that took like, an hour longer than I meant it to.

My feeling is that, while autosaves are meant to make the player's life easier, it is not possible to completely eliminate situations where players screw themselves over. For that reason, I am okay with removing autosaves from a few key challenges without doing this in all cases. Does Robin's transformation really not have a second introduction? I had the aspiration to do this, at least. =/ Ugh, while this is a reasonable request I'm afraid it would be easy to make a continuity error right now.

Let me see how impractical the means I came up with for extracting a list of "key challenge" candidates is, then I'll get back to you. Re. Robin. So I thought that my method for checking for instances of Robin's transformed sprite was sufficiently thorough. (I looked at every case where the transformed Robin faceset appeared in the dialogue in the event contents dump.) I reran the check anyway though. It turns out the suggestion I made above WOULD cause a continuity error, because I found that her transformed face appears during her confrontation with the Fucklord in the Erosian War/Erosian War Camp/Erosian Mountaintop scene (000,000). This time, however, I AM sure that I've made a clean sweep, unless there are some cases where you included the Transformed Robin sprite on the map without giving it any dialogue, which I don't think is something you generally do. To check for that I'd need to modify the event contents dump script to output info on the event sprites. So four suggested options: 1. Fuck it. 2. Retcon the current continuity gaffes out, reintroduce Robin's transformed form at the time and place you want (if at all). Make Robin's face/sprite dependent on switch 2019 Robin Crystal in the: Erosian War/Erosian War Camp/Erosian Mountaintop scene (000,000), the prelude to the Ginasta rescue at Tower HQ (022,017), and the Wendis Rebodification @ HQ B1 (013,029) 3. Go with my above suggestion on putting a note from Riala to come and talk to Robin at the start of the 1st Ch5 free roam @ Deepwilds Shrine (028,006), then only retcon out the appearance of the grey face in the Erosian Mountaintop. (I previously said Robin should bring up the transformation, but see below.) For the purposes of a consistency edit, you'd need to duplicate the change made here to 4th page of the autorun event in the CHAPTER 5 waiting room (000,000), for any freaks who've been sitting on a version 0.48 era save. 4. Instead of putting the note at the start of the first ch5 free roam, place it at the start of the last ch4 free roam before the Erosian War, located at the 2nd version of Stenai: Teleportation Site (008,006), the final talk with Esthera. Either way with option 3. and option 4., the sensible approach is to just turn on switches 2019 Robin Crystal and 2730 Prime Robin Scene on when Robin mentions wanting to talk about her research before teleporting back to HQ. That will just push the conversation path with Robin to the pre-existing dialogue scene with Simon and Robin. If people don't talk to Robin, that's on them. You will want to put the preceding conversation between Riala and Robin before the Robin Transformation scene that is only relevant in the aftermath of the Ardan Succession Crisis in a conditional. (Or create a different version of the conversation as an else. I'm working through the switch logic here, not trying to write a revision.) For the Pre Erosian War version, you'd want that conditional to be based on 3342 Prime Searching. For the Ch 5 transformation intro, use 3761 MISC: Open Roam. I THINK I've covered all of the game logic consistency issues here so you don't have to.

I appreciate you going to so much effort, but given my current state, I think I'm choosing option #1 by default.

Note also that I put the analysis into text file so it can be pulled out again if you want to revisit the question at a more propitious moment.
