Well... the silver lining from this week is that most of this is stuff I shouldn't have to do a second time. I'm way better connected to the fledgling NSFW game industry, that has to be good for all future game development, but I've spent so much time on emails... -_-Headline of the moment: Ouroboros is on its possibly final version. I've done my last testing and I'm going to submit it soon, but I'm paranoid - if there are long time patrons out there who have the time/inclination to test the game right now, regardless of your pledge level, message me and I'll send you the game. $10 backers, it's been updated in the old thread.

TLS progress this week was okay, I really need to receive the finished parallax map to finish things up. As I said in a comment last week, I hope it will be done before the end of the month - if not, I shall be quite frustrated.

That's all for now, lots to do...

Guess I'll play through Ouroboros again, see if anything broke compared to last time. Just to be sure, what name/number is the version you want tested?

sierralee

The version currently in testing is "Ouroboros 2.0 beta v6" - thanks! Hopefully it will just be the game with some refinements and additions, but I appreciate anyone who helps with the last second checking!

In the next TLS version, will there be any scenes with Robin yet? Or is that too much of a spoiler?

sierralee

The party is under too much scrutiny by the elves to have a lot of sex this update. Robin and Simon have a private moment to talk, however. Their relationship, like much of TLS, will be a slow burn.

As much as both love beta testing/breaking games and love Ouroboros today is simply too busy. I shouldn't even be typing here right now. If tomorrow is an option, then I'd absolutely love to dedicate a solid chunk of hours to it, but you know. Sad panda.

2026-09-25 01:00 I love both the games! Keep it up =D however, I'm more hyped for TLS than any other games ;p I also like to hear how you're doing as well. hopefully you're in good health too.

I'm not sure how much ability I'll have to update on Nutaku, but further testing could still be useful for later versions uploaded later. And you've been a supporter for a long time, I think you deserve a copy of the game. ^-^

sierralee

I'm happy to have created Ouroboros, but I'm eager to get back to TLS full time too! I'm doing... complexly. Not badly, but I don't want to make any simple positive statements. My health is one thing I rarely have any cause to complain about.

KingPufferfish

Sent you a direct message as well, just replying here for extra visibility. The game seems entirely fine except for one small inconsistency. Amiel's relationship scene seems to be the only one that doesn't start with the image blurred out.

sierralee

Thanks here as well! Answer to the Amiel part for public record: the blurred scenes were to have something on screen when the image didn't match the current text. Since I had a pre-sex CG for Amiel, I didn't have to use a blurred image for her scenes.

sierralee

Thanks to all who helped with last second testing! I have sent the game for Nutaku to review, so while bug reports are always welcomed, there's no need for more volunteers. Now I just need to try to stay productive while waiting for important emails. >.> As a reminder, all $10 backers will get a copy of the final game. $1 or $5 backers, if you've been with me a long time, I'd be happy to send you a copy as well - just send me a message if you want a link.

Surly Thyme

I'm a decently long timed 5$ backer, but I'm more than happy to support you on Nutaku, too!

sierralee

Thanks, I appreciate that too! While Patreon is my career, releasing a commercial game is another kind of public debut, so my reputation is sort of on the line, haha.

Seric

I'd be happy to test Ouroboros also really looking forward to TLS been a 5$ backer for a little over a year.

sierralee

Sent you a PM! Thanks for all your support!

Now this is the kind of thing you want to come home to after a long day! I really appreciate it. The games good enough that I'll probably buy it too, depending on how tight money is. Seems that since I left my last job that's too much of a concern, but I digress. Now then, as far as the testing goes, before I start. *POSSIBLE SPOILERS* I haven't noticed anything game breaking, though I didn't really expect to. A few little bits, though. The old jumping over blocking events bug rears its head. You successfully blocked off pretty much all of them, but I did find three. Maybe four but I think the last is something different. The only one worth mentioning at all really is that you can jump up to Emantha's house before going to the castle the first time, but this has no real impact on anything other than being unintended behavior. The next two are jumping over scene transition points and landing off screen. You can't do anything other than walk back into the screen transition, but it breaks immersion slightly. I mean the cycle isn't real so it's not even that huge a break in immersion, but still. The two spots I noticed this at was heading from the forest to town and heading from town to the castle. Given, I didn't try every screen transition so it's still quite possible there are others. I can do that if you really want though :P The last "bug" I thought to mention was that during Emantha's cycle in the fire caves you can jump right over the large stalagmites and explore the rest of the cave. That wouldn't matter too much since you can't LEAVE the cave, but there are a few random speech moments from Atreyan you can start, and he isn't supposed to be able to talk too much right here. The only one I really noticed was the grate inspections, but theoretically you could get the bit for crossing the wooden bridge, I suppose. Not certain that's possible, but it seems like it should be. Then you'd have slimey talking too and that would just be bonkers. Something I noticed that just seemed a bit off was the way people looked walking on the edges of the castle palisades(Is that the right word?). The way they walk on top of the stone squares lining the edges looks off to me. It's no big deal, but I know what a perfectionist you are. Speaking of the palisades, you can trigger the battle with a soldier on the left side of the palisades during Amelia's cycle from three stories above the soldier. That seems a bit odd, but really she's a mage so... eh. I would also just like to say that all the new content for Ouroboros is fucking fantastic. The fact that I couldn't catch any grammar or spelling errors in so much text alone is impressive, but the fact that the writing is so damn good is infinitely better. There's too much that's great to single out one thing. Did you add some different cycle intros for Atreyan or were they always there and I didn't notice? I can't remember exactly how it goes but the one that's like, If you tell me what direction to go I will find the limits of pain that sentient life can bear, had me fucking stunned. Normally something that hardcore would make a character seem a little less likable to me, but it fits so well. Especially since it probably mirrors the player's feelings. The art is always nice to see too. I suppose an adult game would be a bit lacking without it, but honestly I wouldn't have missed it too much if it wasn't there. It's not that the art's bad at all and it certainly brings more life to some of the scenes, but I come to these games for the writing more than anything else. I know different people are allowed to have different tastes so some people might not like your writing as much, and I normally wouldn't say this, but those people's feelings and opinions are clearly just wrong. I didn't know opinions could be wrong, but in this case, they just are. Sorry if I fanboy'd too hard there. That's embarrassing. Thanks again for the copy. Can't wait for the TLS update!

sierralee

Glad you enjoyed the game so much! ^-^ Thank you for your feedback, too. I'm not sure that I'm allowed to make any changes to the Nutaku version, but I've fixed things for updates or other versions. I believe I blocked off all the event jumping instances you mentioned - there may be more, but hopefully we have all the serious ones taken care of. >Something I noticed that just seemed a bit off was the way people looked walking on the edges of the castle palisades(Is that the right word?). That seems a bit odd, but really she's a mage so... eh. That's how the tilesets work, so neither of these is too easy to change without potentially causing complications. For a game earlier in the development cycle I might change things to avoid this, but in this case I think it's acceptable. >I would also just like to say that all the new content for Ouroboros is fucking fantastic. The fact that I couldn't catch any grammar or spelling errors in so much text alone is impressive, but the fact that the writing is so damn good is infinitely better. Well, I've had help from a lot of testers. I always try to write clean text, but proofreading something you just wrote is always difficult. >.Did you add some different cycle intros for Atreyan or were they always there and I didn't notice? I added many variations to multiple events to try to give a bit more flavor. Glad some of them worked so well for you!

Email is the bane of productivity, sex and human existence. My heart goes out to you. Also I'll try to run through it again, should be able to some time this week. Have a beer and try to wash the taste of email out of your mouth! :0 Also, gratz on $2800! Lastly, what IS the latest version of Ouroboros, just so I know I'm testing the right one? >.>

Username159

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS* Pulled a full run through in just a couple marathon sessions today and found no big problems. There were some nitpicking details that I did notice. When using the bomb you bought in the fairy village on the primary rubble pile there is still the dialog about not being able to blow up both piles. In the Infinite Bliss gallery save you can walk through the bottom right miscellaneous scenes marker while all the others are solid.

sierralee

The last second testing is done, but feel free to enjoy the game and report anything you find. The latest version is v6.

sierralee

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to have another confirmation things are mostly smooth.

Meridion

At the beginning of a cycle when you are going north, and then east to the castle, you can get to Emantha's place before going to the castle by jumping over the invisible barrier.

SJ99998

Ran across a minor issue: If you interact with the altar of rebirth after completing all of the single-character cycles but haven't reawakened anyone during the current cycle, you still get a conversation involving all of the awakened characters. Also, not sure if this is intentional or not, but when you read the sign behind the counter at the inn with unawakened Atreyan, awakened Atreyan's face is displayed in the text box.

2026-09-25 01:00 Okay so I just downloaded and beat Orobouros in one sitting, it was fucking amazing. I havent played it before so I dont know whats new, but in my six hour experience I didnt notice one thing that I could consider a bug, so yeah!
2016-10-19 12:00

sierralee

Both new bugs, thanks for the reports!

alcath

Yeah, I'll back that . I played the Last Sovereign (and loved it!) but Ouroboros really cemented your creative genius for me! Keep it up!

Rc160

I finally got around to play and finish Ouroboros the other day, and I must say that the story is awesome! I'm seeing some parallels with Albert Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus." Especially, about the curse to repeat life's toils over and over again. Is the story based on this essay?

Jax

Hi Sierra! Would it be possible to get a Mac download link for Ouroboros? (I looked around a bit and didn't see one, but I totally could have missed it!) Thank you! Loving all of your work!

sierralee

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The origin of this game is nothing so high-minded as that, I'm afraid. Believe it or not, it started with thinking about the Legend of Zelda franchise. The idea of the same thing happening over and over again struck me as tragic in a way different than was intended. No quest, no matter how ostensibly important, can survive endless repetition. From there I got to thinking about what it would do to a person to live through such repetitions, and everything spiraled out from there. Ouroboros got pretty far from the origin of the concept, by the end, since I discarded a variety of elements that were part of the original idea. I found what I felt was the real heart of the story and then pruned away elements that didn't contribute to it. But yup, the origin of the idea was Nintendo, not Camus. XD

sierralee

I've got it uploaded, check the Ouroboros post soon!

Jax

Sweet! Thank you!

Rc160

Ah I see. I'm not familiar with the Zelda franchise, but I think that's an interesting concept too! If I started as an idealist but hwas cursed t o repeat the same thing over and over again, I can't say I wouldn't be tempted to try being evil just to kill the boredom. I probably would fail the quest haha

Argenten

I actually found that it reminded me of Plato's "The Cave" and The hero and his ladies eventually being the only ones to see the shadows for what they are. It was a great game that I really loved to play and the lack of need to worry about levels and grinding mean that the story had to operate purely on plot progression and character/environmental interaction, which it did superbly.
