Here we go! This update is jam-packed with almost everything on the list, completely wrapping up the endgame section (at least in theory). Please enjoy. ^-^

TLS 0.73.0

- Vhala has a "harem" quest, starting in the base hallway after the Incubus War.

- Stineford has been entirely overhauled! This is one of the biggest visual updates I've done to the game and I'm just crossing my fingers that I didn't screw something up during the upgrade.

-  If Sarai was sexually restricted in your game, you can now get her to join the harem via her personal quest (if you already finished it, there's an alternate event in her tower). This is functionally the same, but involves some new conversations and dialogue variants.

- Nalili's quest now grants an additional reward, which can be found in her room even if you've already completed the quest. This is necessary for...

- A short quest that will grant a final battle item, if you've gathered all four major ingredients.

- Fuani now appears in the Renthnor Wilds guild, offering tips about all incomplete harem quests.

- Yarra's upgraded sex room now has two alternate configurations, for those who complained about the original tiles.

- Additional details around the base dependent on country scores, now covering Darghelon, Gheldaron, Zirantia, Erosia, and Rodak.

- Depending on the Entity Cohesion variable, you can see a scene resting under the tree at the Nostalgic Home.

- The final Shining Sword bonus is now available. I intend to add one more in the last optional dungeon for flex, however.

- During the Orilise segment of the elven forests sequence, the timer running out should now cause game over. This needs more testing.

- Did you know that the majority of cases refer to "Miners' Junction" but in 29 locations I accidentally wrote "Miner's Junction"? Well, not anymore!

- Bug where you could see Wendis transformed early fixed.

- Thanks to Rachnera, TLS has advanced keyboard remapping options in the System menu.

- There are now control tutorials when starting a new game.

- What may be the final investments of the game, pending any final balance tweaks.

- The placeholder in the teleportation room has finally been replaced with Riala, who will check preparedness and lead to the final battle (next time).

- One new sex scene.

- New illustrated scenes: Elleani Relief, Megail x Iris Anal, Janine Wedding Night

- Assorted bugfixing and polishing.

Misc Notes

Aside from the new content, this update includes both stuff necessary to polish up the game before the wider release and details that only hardcore fans will care about. It took longer than I wanted, which I regret, but I think this was a necessary step toward the final game.

Apologies to those who got so hyped about the Fuani note, but she is just a mechanism to help players stay organized. That's what I get for not having her finished by last week, I guess.

You can read the release notes for yourself to see the various details. Special thanks to Rachnera for taking on the keyboard reconfiguration project. Otherwise... I guess the only other one I want to mention is the details appearing in the base over time: they might seem less impactful now, but I hope they'll feel nice for people playing in the future.

Vhala's Quest

Her quest is meant to be a lot of payoff and reward - not extrinsically, but related to the intrinsic motivations of optimizers. That is, making optimization a satisfying experience with worthwhile benchmarks. This is one of the most theory-heavy optimizations I've ever done, because I just don't have the saves to thoroughly test every likely scenario. Thus I'm sure that some rebalancing will be necessary and welcome feedback.

However, Vhala's quest also serves as a helpful mechanic for players who may be behind. I was actually thinking of including a mercy bonus, but couldn't decide what to use. It needs to be something that identifies saves that are less optimized, but not something that optimized saves could ever attain to exploit for further optimization. Maybe I'm missing the obvious, but I didn't choose anything in time.

Also, I tried a sort of "guided searching" mechanism for the quest-like parts, aiming to make most locations a player might try be viable paths forward. My hope was that this would feel engaging without being an exercise in pure wandering, or just sending the player to jump through numerous hoops, but let me know how it works for you.

I just realized, while typing this, that I didn't create Dari's event. =/ Not great, but I guess that's just one more thing to work on for the .1 version.

Overall

This update went pretty well overall, but basically everything else isn't, so I am disgruntled. -_- I will actually be AFK for a while after putting this out, so it better not be broken. But if it is, I'll be back to take care of it this weekend.

In general, I want this to finish off the entire endgame section. So this is the time to bring up any final details, infelicities, and so on. Want a clean slate before moving on.

Hey SL, As one of the optimizers in question, my immediate thought for 'Benchmark to identify struggling saves that optimizers cannot exploit' would be 'total ProN return from last investment cycle,' or something similar. ProN returns per cycle are a broad measure of how well-optimized a save is, as it's difficult to have high results in events without having a solid ProN engine to back it up. I also can't fathom a scenario where it would be worth it, from an optimization standpoint, to tank one's ProN income in order to obtain a mercy bonus. Since ProN returns are compounding cycle by cycle, in order to tank income enough to meet a hypothetical 'low' threshold, one would need to basically sabotage their own save...to get a bonus that's meant to help struggling saves. Hopefully I've explained the idea well, and if it is the method you choose, that it is helpful to you.

Dragof2

"Vhala has a 'harem' quest" Gaddang it. I was all amped to play Solium Infernum, and now I'm not going to be able to resist ditching it to play Last Sovereign instead.

WaxerRed

One big bug to report, I am unable to change my party members, they all seem 'locked' somehow. In the formation menu I can't select a new character under "change" and "remove" no longer removes the selected party member.

Jeffrey Lebowski

I've finished a quick run of the content (and love it obviously; always glad for more Vhala). I haven't compiled all the bugs/typos I've found yet (or tested New Stineford) but I wanted to jump one bug up early since it blocks a bit of progression. When doing the short quest for crafting an item, talking to the person in the Wilds and then returning to the Hermit just replays the event telling you to go to the Wilds. This means you cannot complete the item crafting at this point.

Liking the update so far, some quick bug reports that aren't just me hitting the wrong button! Stineford looks great! Though there a small problem with sound, as the correct bgm does not start playing when you enter town. Instead it keeps with the overworld track. This is less a bug and more a pet peeve, but with wandering sprites they have a tendency to sometimes block the player for where they need to go. That just happens and you usually can just wait a second. But on this particular section of the map it's become somewhat brutal. The right corner here is 6 tiles of 1x1, and if the fat merchant wanders in, he can get stuck in there for a literal minute or two just wandering back and forth, blocking the players from moving. If possible, can you widen the corner here to be 2x2? Perhaps by shortening the roof of the pub? https://imgur.com/a/9nFSHFg For the Wendis and Simon scene under the tree, firstly very wholesome! But some bugs. The sparkle on the tree does not have 'stepping' on so it is stagnant. Additionally the event is off here when Wendis says this line. Instead of changing to her abomination appearance the map resets to show itself like this. https://imgur.com/a/ZzcOPbf Also, might just be me, but the sprite of the tree clashes a bit oddly with the Simon sprite. It looks like the tree is growing from his head!

Alistair

So I found a text error, if you choose the carina option in the Vhala projection then spend an influence point, when you interact with the sparkle again it shows the text box for the Ardoheim sparkle.

Abso Haram

Glad to see more with Vhala. She's one of my fav characters. Lack of sexuality doesn't mean lack of personal relationships after all. I want more Goddess Trainer in the future though...

Innocuous

First pass notes. I usually use a keyboard for TLS, but I tried a controller and had no issues. However I got a little confused on the 'Gamepad Help' text in New Game. It says: "If you have trouble, I recommend using the Controller Settings option in the System menu. If you remap keys via F1, this will be doubly complicated." It was not immediately obvious that you meant I needed to start the game, then go into Menu -> System -> Gamepad Settings. I was looking for something else in the start menu, then looking in the files folder for something, then wondering if the wording was confusing and you meant I should be using the F1 menu, before finally realizing I needed to start the game to get to the menu that it was referencing. Maybe the language could be cleaned up to make it a little more clear. Also, the README could possibly use some updating, as it only refers to the F1 remapping. Stineford is gorgeous. As a small thing, the transition from the market district to the noble district is slightly obfuscated by pillar geometry. I wonder if a new person might be unaware it's a place they could walk. Or maybe between the guard there and the fact you can enter noble district from the outside will mean this isn't a concern. The other thing, and I almost hate to say this, but the outside is now so pretty that it makes the interiors look a bit droll by comparison. I did 2 fights in Vhala's quest (one in Rodak and one in Gheldaron). Both seem pretty reasonable as optional challenge fights. I couldn't do enough in Vhala's quest to complete it, but the save I was using has a bunch of random previous harem quests incomplete, and I didn't fully explore all options around the world. Will get around to it later. Is there a way to access the alternate configurations for Yarra's upgraded room? I'm not really sure about this bullet point. I found the special secret by talking to Riala and got access to the entire end of the game. Bold choice to switch to a 3D space looter-shooter for the final act, but I guess technically impressive that you built the whole system inside RPG Maker. Finally, 'long broom joke' in the Renthnor Wilds hut with Fuani. Not sure if that was a placeholder, or if that was the joke, but I'm okay with it either way. Amazing update : )

Runcible Technician

Ran through it. Can't wait to see what Annikath does for the final image on Vhala's harem quest. Should be the hottest one yet (if it wouldn't sequence break quests I would recommend Orcent's philosopher painting be at the bar in his place, but alas...)

lostone2

When I open the game the size of the window is 1300 x 1027 pixels instead of 682 x 553. Pressing F6 solves the issue but I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned yet.

Hotenhornay

When viewing the Nostalgic Home scene, the unique layout of Wendis and Simon beneath the tree changes back to Qum and Wendis in their default positions mid-conversation.

Rhinedog1963

Is this updated on steam when patreon gets updated? or do i have to wait a bit?

Rhinedog1963

That's okay. I'm nowhere near endgame anyways.

Just made a fairly quick pass so far, will retest next version. The new gamepad options are good, thanks to all involved. Adding an option for the dialogue history button would be a nice addition, if possible. The ordering of the dialogue on the sparkles in Vhala's quest is awkward; the hints about work to be done are only given after the options to lock off the country, but you'd never want to make the final decision before hearing the hints. Multi-target combat animations seem to be much slower for some reason. Checking under the hood a bit, the Vhala event is CRAZY how complex it is! Quite amazing how you put it all together. One suggestion on it, I don't believe there were any RP rewards for it, unless I missed it which is quite possible. Vhala should probably get an RP boost, and perhaps some others like Sarai Ivala Dari and Carinia? I also wonder if perhaps Ivala could weigh in on Vhala's quest? She could have an interesting perspective on the unperson process, as it could be an 'act' done in the name of Ivala, that she didn't actually agree with personally. Could be a good place for some classic TLS conversations!

DukeLeto7

OK. Got some notes for this build. In the 10. New Yhilin/Merchant Quarter/Yhilini Bank map there is a dude who spawns after the completion of Megail's Quest at (007,022). He has both direction fix and random autonomous movement on. Presumably one or the other should be turned off. We've got a question in the forums about the distinction between Carina's Doggy Spread I and Doggy Spread II affection scenes, the latter of which appears after the completion of Carina's quest and does not contain an optional appearance from Ivala. There's some confusion as to why the more "advanced" affection scene skips this interaction. On a related note, I'm confused about the purpose of Doggy Spread III, which appears identical to Doggy Spread II and is not apparently used. Another possible oversight is that the Carina event at Headquarters (018,023) doesn't have the same event logic as the Carina in Headquarters Courtyard (030,035), so that if the player doesn't build the shrine or skips it until late in the game, they will not have the same contextual chat with Carina at her HQ location and will be able to have affection scenes while Simon is still shell-shocked. There's STILL something wrong with Riala's Research dialogue stating research is blocked after the Erosian War appearing when it isn't supposed to. I am utterly fed up with this event as I am sure you are too, but I need to do some more research (ha ha) on what is going on with it before making a fix recommendation, and I want to play through Ch 4 again myself to make sure it's really and truly squashed before giving you a fix. Will advise.

One more bug report: The fix to modify keyboard should have INS preloaded as a -fourth- cancel option in order to at least have the previous version's controls work when unmodified. Extra credit if Num 9 is preloaded as a third option for Previous Page and Num 3 as Next Page, because then the keypad will work regardless of whether or not Num Lock is on. Also, Stineford's music doesn't work. Someone posted about it before, saying it plays the overland theme, but that's not precisely correct. If you appear there from the farm after meeting Orcent for the first time, there is no music, and overland music only plays there if you leave to overland and then return. In other words, it's not that it is incorrectly set; it doesn't add/change the music track at all.

Pheebor

Addendum to the above: if num lock is on, the numpad won't work with shop quantites, no matter what is set in the keyboard section, even though the menu works. That includes the four cardinal directions (2,4,6,8) and the upward and downward right diagonals (9 and 3) These work when num lock is off (but of course the cancel option by default is num 0 instead of INS, so without modification only one thing or the other will work, not both). Current best workaround: turn OFF num lock and set third cancel option to INS from the keypad.

Rachnera

Finally time for a bug/remark report of my own: - If you say no to "Continue to the final battle?", the screen remains black. - In top of being currently bugged as already reported, Robin's potion quest is quite mysterious. I'm not sure which ingredients she's referring to and why these ones. - The hermit guard probably doesn't need to repeat that we may pass each and every time we visit the hermit. While Vhala's quest is quite cool, I would say the real fun will happen once this update is ironed out and we get to replay the entire final open world section at once, with all the many quests crossing each other.

Rachnera

Also: FANCY PROJECTION!

Dragof2

I got another bug report of my own. I reached the point where Xerces and Mithyn/Tertia face off. After that cutscene ends, it just gets stuck on a black screen while the music plays. Reloading the autosave takes me straight to the black screen, and reloading my most recent save just allows me to play through until I hit the black screen at the same point again. 😢
