724. Not A Lot Of Options

***

Ever since I returned to the Netherworld, a lot of events had transpired. It wasn’t a long time— at least, compared to the time I spent back in the Mortal Realm. However, it felt like a lot more time had passed than actually did. Because of the amount of things I had done since I gotten back.

The amount of trouble I had gotten myself into, to be specific.

First of all, I discovered my dad’s kingdom— a Dungeon that led deeper down into the bottom layers of the Netherworld. There, I found the end of the world. The infinite wall of corruption that was slowly eating its way through all of the Nexeus.

And that was not all. I had also discovered the cause of the end of the world. My dad— the Devil— was partially to blame. But in reality, it was because he had been tricked by someone he thought was his mentor.

That was not all that happened since I returned to the Netherworld. Finally, after so long, I reunited with Haec— my first companion. It was a touching reunion. I had truly missed him. Even if we both had changed drastically since we last saw each other, I was still happy I could be with him again.

Although, our reunion was cut short because of the Deathsquad Hunters hunting him down, before we were forced to escape the wrath of the Beast. Which was the strongest being in all of the Nexeus.

Or so my dad said.

And now, after all those events that I’d been through, I didn’t slow down. I didn’t bring Haec back to the Mortal Realm.

Because… I was in the middle of starting a revolt against the Demon King.

Well, to call it a mere revolt was a bit of an understatement. It was more like a full-on rebellion. Maybe even calling it a civil war was appropriate.

After all, not only had we already recruited a large number of the Demon King’s Legions that were stationed at the Expanse, we also had converted quite a few of Regnorex’s top generals to our cause.

For example, Hartia the Ruler of the Border was now on our side. He was the reason why this rebellion was even possible in the first place, because he could remove the collars that were keeping everyone obedient.

And now, we had also recruited Manos the Executioner— the leader of the Deathsquad Hunters— to our side. Another high-leveled Deathsquad Hunter, Sicar, came along too.

Although, we didn’t even need to do much to recruit either of them to our side. Even still, it was great to have more allies. Or so I thought.

Unfortunately, it seemed that not everyone thought bringing in the leader of the Deathsquad Hunters to our camp was a good idea.

I watched from the side as a crowd gathered around Haec, Manos, and Sicar, protesting the presence of the two high-leveled Deathsquad Hunters. Meanwhile, the rest of the gathered free legions looked like they were debating fleeing or attacking right at that moment.

But I ignored this scene. I knew that Manos posed no real threat to us. And since Haec was the leader of this rebellion, it was up to him to convince everyone that Manos was truly on our side.

Especially since I had better things to do right now.

I closed my eyes as I focused on the words lingering in the back of my mind. I had already distributed all my Stat Points between [Wisdom] and [Agility], while maxing out [Cluster Time Dilation] with my Secondary Skill Points. For the rest of my Skill Points and Secondary Skill Points, I distributed them between my Skills and Secondary Skills that I felt would be most useful for the upcoming battles.

And now, there were only two things I needed to do. The first was to resolve this notification blaring in my mind.

[Titles Available]

“Alright, let’s see what’s this about…”

I whispered as I pulled up the list of Titles that were available for me. I ignored all the previous Titles I had already rejected.

Titles:

(Faeslayer—

You have accomplished—

“Nope. I already didn’t want you.”

(-̴̛̠͊̀͝-̵̪̱̼͑-̶̰͎͙̉̆͝-̸͙̍̀͠-̴̛̠͊̀͝-̵̪̱̼͑-̶̰͎͙̉̆͝  S̶̛̼̗̅ė̶̺̜͕ntǐ̶̬nĕ̷̪ͅͅl̵̨̦̗͗̔̃—

-̴̛̠͊̀͝-̵̪̱̼͑-̶̰͎͙̉̆͝-̸͙̍̀͠-̴̛̠͊̀͝-—

“And I definitely don’t want you.”

I rolled my eyes, before ignoring the prompt. Right now, I wanted to see what brand new Title I got for killing Jofis. Even if I technically didn’t kill him. I still leveled up a lot from that battle. And it was one of the toughest battles I had ever partaken in thus far.

So I truly hoped that whatever Title was waiting for me was going to be good.

And it was.

(Immortalslayer)

You have slain an immortal being! Very few entities in all of the Nexeus have reached the precipice of immortality throughout history, and you have managed to completely circumvent the unkillable nature of one such immortal! As such, you have earned the rare Title of a slayer of immortals!

+50 [Vitality]

+50 [Strength]

+50 [Endurance]

+50 [Wisdom]

+50 [Agility]

Bonuses:

*You have a 10% higher chance of permanently killing an immortal with a lethal blow!

*You get to keep your current Titles and all their Bonuses and Skills.

“Huh.”

I blinked a few times as I took in the brand new Title that was offered to me. It was the only Title that was being offered. And yet, it was… very good.

I was surprised. Especially by the bonus it offered. So not only was I more effective against killing immortal beings like Jofis now, I would also be able to keep all my current Titles.

It was just like the bonus offered by The Devil’s Daughter.

I couldn’t help but grin at the prospect of not just getting stronger, but being able to kill an immortal easier. Although… I was surprised Jofis was considered an immortal.

I always thought dying became harder at Level 200 and above. But Jofis was not at that level when we fought, even if he had once been a Primordial Demon. Which meant that he somehow still retained his immortality he had when he was at above Level 200, despite de-leveling and devolving back to a Primeval Demon.

That’s interesting to know, I thought to myself as I tapped a finger on my chin. No wonder he was so difficult to kill.

It was not like I had much of a choice right now— I didn’t have to deliberate much. So I just accepted the Title that was being offered to me.

Title Gained!

(Immortalslayer)

+50 to [Vitality]

+50 to [Strength]

+50 to [Endurance]

+50 to [Wisdom]

+50 to [Agility]

Bonuses:

General Skill [Title Skill: Rapid Disengage] Obtained!

“Alright, now that that’s settled, there’s only one thing left for me to do.”

I spoke as I dusted my hands off. Focusing inwardly, I took in my Status. There was something I had— two things I could distribute, actually.

More simple then I expected

Danijel Turina

Wow, it's stackable. That's excellent, and the only way she could actually use it at this point. Also, +50 to everything, that's as much as her [Lesser God] evolution, and half as much as her GS bonus, but permanent. Also, almost as much as her corrupted class advancement. Basically, it's as if she levelled 50 times and distributed points equally to all stats. But, also, there's an implicit warning that such huge upgrades are seemingly normal for the Primordials, and that they, too, might have all kinds of stackable titles, bonuses and shit, and we don't even know what kind of a stat boost a Primordial evolution gets you. Also, the interesting part is what her Divine Essence GS does when levelled. If that adds 50 points to everything per level, that's some serious firepower. However, same disclaimer applies - everybody she's going to fight is expected to have crazy shit for stats.

Dragonmaster_42

Oooooooh! New chapters!!!! I'm excited! Salvos should definitely upgrade all her lv 1 GSs to lv 2! I feel like the first level up ist always the most significant. I mean mathematically if every point increases a skill's power by its level 1 effect, the first doubles its power, the second only results in 1.5 times the power and so forth. But I feel like especially with grand skills, the first point is even more significant than that because it seemingly often expands the skill's utility the most, even if just following the same mathematical rule. And non of her eligible GSs are as survival critical as her flames GS. So I don't see any reasonable hindrance to Salvos finally showing us [The World...] lvl 2!

Tim

Maxing time dilation is a good move now that we know it can be used to recharge skills. Also i can imagine leveling [The World...] could have an effect like boosting all space magic unsed inside by Salvos.

Brandon14754

Interesting the grand skill points are grouped together, I guess that means they can be spent in either the class or the subspecies even if the grand skill points was earned from leveling the other

Sivart

I say go all in on claw of corruption

Alexey G

She'd probably upgrade Divine Essence and World of My Mind.

Sivart

Salvos gets GS points for every five levels species and secondary class is it possible for her to max GS before lvl 200 and get an early evolution.

Danijel Turina

I'm reading this again: "you have managed to completely circumvent the unkillable nature of one such immortal". I think there's more to it than it seems. We were led to believe that nothing she did worked against Jofis, because he was somehow able to bounce back, but what if each of her major attacks actually disrupted his "soul matrix" and everything that made him immortal that, in the end, Manos just finished him, at the point where even Salvos was demoralised and decided it can't be done, but what she did by then basically made him not only mortal, but also half dead? When I initially saw all those corruption strikes she used against him, and how he bounced back, I thought that can't be right, this must have some kind of a permanent effect that's just masked by grand skills and bullshit, and apparently something very similar did happen. It's like cooling and heating up someone repeatedly until he cracks, then scrambling the fragments into a mess and then melting it down and crushing it with gravity. It's as if those "immortals" have some kind of a reserve of deaths from which they can bounce back, but the pool isn't inexhaustible. We know that the Devil hypothesised that the Great Agarus could likely be killed permanently if one managed to kill him ten times in a day. So, what if it isn't exactly "killed"? What if having his essence scrambled by the kind of attacks Salvos is capable of is very much equivalent to killing him repeatedly until his "immortality reserve" is depleted? Also, as a corollary, how many times will Regnorex need to be killed? Will this kind of essence scrambling do in his case as well?

Tim

Hmm, if i am not wrong salvos should still have 2 unspent secondary class skill points. 5 went into time dilation and 1 into Worldbreak. And from 154 to 158 should be 4 levels.

Crashdevil

+50 to her vitality, strength, and endurance is very significant. She prioritizes wisdom and speed so this gives her much more tankiness without having to fall back on her GS as much. It might make little difference to high level demons she's about to face, but I'm really curious how her stats stack up against everyone else back in the mortal realm now. IIRC demons have higher stats than humans of the same level. Considering the stat boosts she's received recently and how rapidly she's continued leveling, I want to see what Clayton and all of the other elites that she could almost hang with before think of her now.

Danijel Turina

I'm thinking about this stat boost and what it might mean. Before that, in her normal state she couldn't match Jofis, but with [Divine Essence...], meaning +100 to everything, she thrashed him around the way Hulk thrashed Loki. Then he used [Demon Mode] GS to give himself a boost, and that made him slightly stronger than her. Then Haec gave her a slight boost to speed and that was enough to make her faster again. I'd say this boost to her baseline stats means she would now be as strong as a lvl 196 without her [Divine Essence] on, and with [Divine Essence...] she could just crush someone like Jofis or Manos. I agree that the Strength and Endurance boosts are crucial, because she tends to neglect those and then has a problem when having to launch 10 clones at a time and it depletes her mana, or when she has to cut through a very hard target and finds out she's just too weak. But yes, enhancing Wisdom and Agility is a good idea, because those give her the higher ground in a fight, and she can usually compensate for the lack of strength by having friends who help her out. The problem is, Regnorex is stronger than Jofis, and that's even without the advantage of terrain, and Focalor is stronger still. That's why her GS stat bonus is essential, and it is now almost at the level where I think she can temporarily function as a Primordial, but she needs more in order to actually control the fight and inflict serious damage. Also, her weapons technology, meaning the Divine Nebular Scythe, is insufficient for the tasks at hand, and both metaphorically and literally just doesn't cut it anymore. :) I was also wondering about those space suits the worldwalkers use, and those look like a more advanced version of the [World Of My Mind], where the thing tightly follows your body shape with spacetime isolation properties. Basically, it's a person-sized spaceship, unlike the thing she and the Devil use, which are probably an inferior version because you can't directly interact with the local environment in those. Those seem to be the kind of armor she needs against the local Nexeus threats like Regnorex and the Matriarch Centinel, but it still wouldn't be enough against Trico and his Divine Trident.

Danijel Turina

On a different note, Haec still can't seem to make up his mind whether he's a leader of the rebellion or a follower of Salvos. That seems to be an ongoing thing since his Primeval evolution, and looks like a ticking time bomb, and Taburas so far made the problem worse with her desire for him as a leader. I'd like to hear Hartia's perspective on the battle, because for all we know, he watched it in 7x slow motion from the time chamber, and had the opportunity to see in great detail how it went before Jofis got rifted away. Also, since Haec can't really tell the crowd much since he was there only for the last part. Also, Hartia witnessed firsthand, for the first time, how it is to fight alongside an Elite adventurer, because the way Salvos fought and protected him looks more like something Mori Gladius would do, and he expected the standard Demon tactics, which is "sacrifice others for your advantage". He expected to be used and taken advantage of, and ended up being protected and saved at least three times. The problem is, stuff happens in stop-motion for us because of all the fucking delays, but for them it's all too fast to process. Hartia, however, just got ten days of alone time, and he could think about things in peace, and I wonder what his thoughts are. For Salvos, I'm afraid things are taking place too fast to process properly, and it doesn't look like it's about to slow down any time soon.

Danijel Turina

Also, about Haec... Salvos basically got involved in a total mess by agreeing to help him, because let's just see what his plan was. He intended to go to the 3rd legion and kill Hartia, free the slave demons, then go to the other legions and free all the other slaves, then depose Regnorex. Let's wargame this, without Salvos: he goes there, Hartia crushes him with space magic, kills those three collared Archdemons, end of rebellion. There was absolutely no way he could defeat Hartia without Salvos. He knows nothing about space magic, he can't stop Hartia from using the collars, Hartia has a GS he can't possibly defeat from the inside. His plan was incredibly stupid and he would've gotten killed instantly. Oh, not to mention that without Salvos and her [World Of My Mind], they would have been constantly tracked by the Death Squad, and it was Salvos who wiped out two units. Haec proved he can kill one lowest-levelled hunter with his GS. Good job. However, then he's fucked. His plan to free the slaves and depose Regnorex is so stupid, it actually reeks of mental illness, of the kind that Belzu had and which eventually got him killed; megalomania, ego trip and inability to perceive your limitations. Let's just have in mind that Haec personally saw all of Regnorex's generals, and was smaller than a mouse in front of them, and yet here he is, wanting to lead a rebellion. That guy is a liability. And yet, by the virtue of Salvos fighting all the battles, he gets to play a leader of the rebellion and question her as if he actually has any idea about anything. She instinctively does the right thing by recruiting enemies, and he's the one who always opposes this. I mean, let's just stop there. How the fuck does he think to take over the kingdom and free the slave demons if they don't recruit most of the top brass? Does he think an army of millions of lesser and greater demons will do anything against a single Primeval, let alone Regnorex? It's sheer idiocy, and yet, he never seems to think things through and understand he's out of his depth and Salvos is just so much smarter than him. Salvos in fact organized a Human army against Regnorex, and won. She even recruited Belzu, and risky as it was it actually contributed to the victory, because he ended up giving her the idea for changing the ritual. It's incredible how Haec completely lost his shit when he saw Jofis coming, and Salvos had to come up with a battle plan and execute most of it herself, and the first thing he did after the victory was to question her about Manos and Sicar? What Haec needs to do is thank his lucky stars that Salvos thinks he's her companion, because that's the only reason he's not dead yet, incompetent and overconfident as he is. Also, he needs to understand that he's merely one of her generals, and she's the strategic mastermind and battlemaster.

Danijel Turina

I'm also thinking about Salvos and how this affects her mental state. She's quite shaken after the Jofis fight, because how close it was and how little her attacks seemed to do. From the very moment they entered the Demon King's domain, she felt anxiety and unease, because she got into something she couldn't really pull off, as she was, and had to depend on luck, chance, levelling and evolution rather than her own skill and power. This is about the worst thing you can get yourself into as a warrior, but so far things went reasonably well; she defeated Hartia and made an arrangement with him, levelled, advanced her class, went through other legion leaders easily, and then she hit a rock wall with Jofis, and had an impression that she used up all her skills and they did nothing, then others used up their skills and it did nothing, and eventually Manos had to finish the job, him joining the rebellion being a very lucky event, because if he and Sicar joined Jofis instead, with her [Flames] being out, she'd be dead, or she'd have to rift out in disgrace. So, she's shaken, if not outright stirred. Her confidence is disturbed. Her closest ally is Haec who keeps questioning her every decision and doesn't really trust her. Most of those demons don't trust her enough to get their collars removed without serious convincing and coercion. She just found out how hard an immortal is to kill, and she's going against Regnorex, who might at any moment decide he took too many losses already and needs to deal with this personally. It's also been quite a while since she's seen her human companions and she must miss them. She really needs a confidence boost. Sure, she doesn't look as bad as when she thought the humans don't really accept her and would turn on her in an instant if they knew she was a Demon, but if Edithe, Willy and Centina turned up with that scythe, that would really help.
