One thing I forgot to mention in the A/N: Saffron froze up here, just as she froze up when those [Rancor Mites] attacked her carriage back in chapter 50-ish. That's the difference between someone who only studies theory and someone who actually practices what they learn. Saffron, unfortunately, is far too immersed in studying, and hasn't experienced as much real fighting as even a Silver Ranked adventurer.

I suspect being around Salvos is a sure cure for that ... eventually.

Master of investigation and infiltration Salvos is. I hope Saffron inspects the jacket, should tell her Daniel is a hero from its description iirc

Turtle Galacticus

If she's not used to bloodshed, I'm afraid she's not gonna see Salvos in a much better light after what's coming xD

AlyxHaestrom

Is the name of the town a Futurama reference?

Melting Sky

It looks like Saffron's getting a crash course in practical field work. She's basically the opposite of Salvos, all theory and no practice.

I personally think it is out of character for Salvos to allow Saffron to get hit twice on top of being pushed down. One hit makes sense since it’s sort of out of nowhere/somewhat unexpected, but she has killed people for much less. It just feels like it doesn’t fit the way she has been portrayed as a loyal protector of her companions just to watch her get roughed up like that.

It would still feel weird to me even if she explains later that it was to help ease her into the notion of killing them by eliciting an emotional response

I mean she's a fricking vampire, I doubt spilled blood will shock her per say. Her problem is she's just not, apparently, been in a mage-fight with someone who wont just sit back and let her cast.
