Can't say I've ever seen a benevolent kraken character before. I reckon it'd be a really interesting fantasy story, a goddess of the wild sea who takes pity on sailors cast adrift and grants them succor, and in exchange they find themselves serving under a new flag, a new duty to keep the oceans free from the tyranny of kings and corpos.
