I stood there, my hands trembling as they cupped her face—or what used to be her face. My fingers pressed gently against her cheeks, now covered in a soft, velvety layer of chestnut fur. Her head had changed, morphed into something impossible: a horse’s head, long, with a giant pink nose that glistened under the bright lighting. Her snout stretched out, broad and powerful, her nostrils flaring with each moist, shuddering breath. Fuck, her nostrils were so big and open. I could see so far inside of her.

But then I saw her eyes. Those green eyes, bright and familiar, staring back at me with the same quiet intensity she’d always had. They were hers— unmistakably hers—locked onto mine, wide with confusion or maybe fear. My chest tightened. “It’s you,” I whispered, barely believing it myself. “How… how is this you?” She couldn’t answer, not with that mouth, not with that snout. Yet somehow, in the way her head tilted slightly, in the flicker of recognition in those emerald depths, I knew she was still there, trapped in this impossible shape. My hands didn’t let go. I couldn’t let go.
