My phone dinged. A text.
No contact name. Just a number. Attached was a photo, and a short, mocking text:
"this ur gf? haha"
I frowned and tapped the image. At first, I didn’t get it.
It looked like a cow. Sort of. But there was something disturbingly human in the eyes. Big, glossy, aware. Her hair—red, braided—was unmistakable. That was her braids. And that was the tanktop she was wearing this morning.
I zoomed in. My stomach twisted.
The face wasn’t fully bovine. Looking past that huge, moist snout I could see her frightened, pleading expression. Her eyes were welling with tears. She was on all fours in what looked like a barn, the floor straw-covered.
I stared at the screen, numb. My brain refused to catch up. I wanted to think it was a sick joke, some kind of photoshop or AI thing. But my gut knew. Somehow, this was real.
I typed back.
“WTF. Where is she?”
No reply.
I sat there, gripping my phone, heart pounding. That look in her eyes wouldn’t leave me.
