Embracer sells Gearbox to Take-Two and says it’s done with its restructuring… does that mean they’re going to start buying stuff all over again? Also: Eddy Gordo hits Tekken 8, Guild Wars 3 officially confirmed, Jim Ryan retires, and a lot of talk about where all of this stuff is heading over the next few years.

In a way, I've sort of been shuffled into this new age of gaming. I like playing a lot of games, and different ones too, from Hyper Demon to Outer Wilds. This year I've been playing Dragon's Dogma 2, only Dragon's Dogma 2, to the point where I've realized I've become that Assassin's Creed guy by default. It's not the end of the world. No Rest for the Wicked, Hyper Light Breaker, Frostpunk 2, Homeworld 3, STALKER 2, there's a lot of things on the horizon. But some of these are early access, some of these are likely to have shaky launches, and I've wondered aloud, "What if it's just Dragon's Dogma 2 all the way here?" But then something always comes back. Caves of Qud is going 1.0 this year. That's wild.

To me Helldivers demonstrates that the problem with the gaming industry is the cost of developing huge titles. Helldivers is a competently sized game thats fun and receives regular updates. It costs $40 up front and you can pay to unlock the new gear or earn premium currency at a reasonable pace. I doubt that Helldivers would be a better game if it cost 10x and needed to recoup 10x as much money from players. Big games have just gotten too big, and the idea of "profit must ALWAYS be higher than last year" has fucked the game industry, like it has fucked every other industry

I have a three year old niece and can sort of understand Kirby Star Allies. Think that's a good platforming starting point. If you can face playing it with her especially....

The fucked up thing about borderlands 3, is even if you turn the dialogue to 0, you still have to spend 5 minutes between every mission standing there while some shithead does his standup routine. Tiny Tina's was just incredibly mid across the board, except for when torgue blew up the ocean, that was funny

Agree 100% but a part of me would be a bit sad if the AAA blockbuster like Spider-man 2 disappeared entirely due to lack of financial viability.
