Let's talk a bit about the EA leadership and how its handled Dragon Age: The Veilguard since its release. Also a review of the powered screwdriver my wife got me for Christmas! And another questionable energy drink. This is clipped from today's livestream--I'm kinda futzing around with what to do on Wednesdays since it isn't as structured as Tuesday or Friday and this first hour kinda seemed podcast-y enough for me to post here as a hot bonus.

I thought this would be an hour of EA talk, but i was pleasantly surprised with some nice chit chat

If EA wants a multiplayer thing out of bioware, they should have looked at what made Mass Effect 3's multiplayer good, and expanded on that. I was never big on mass effect, but that multiplayer was awesome. It managed to walk that loot box line really well before lootboxes were a big thing. I think there is a way to expand upon that experience, and make it a standalone thing. A Helldivers 2 style game with the co-operative way biotic powers work together would be a great time! I don't think trying to mix multiplayer into the campaign of a bioware game is a good strategy.

I think I have a pretty reasonable answer to the question "Who fucked up?" EA did. EA corporate have spent the last twenty years burning good will like kindling. So whenever people talk about anything they're doing it's always with the sense of "Can you believe what these fucking guys did this time?!" Because of that, anything they bring to the table has to be pristine or the vibes will be immediately ruined. You could say that it was the marketing that killed Veilguard, but good games can come back from that. The problem is that no one is going to give an EA game one inch of slack, and that's going to hurt every game they put out until somebody does the work to fix their image. A thing they cannot do while that shark in a suit is running the company.
