Discord's going to archive a bunch of messages online and they're not handling it in the smartest way! Let's talk about how much tech support information is probably getting lost by being posted in chat rooms instead of somewhere on the searchable web. Also, old video game magazines! Bootleg arcade games! Trying to teach kids how to do video game bowling the right way!

Man the fucking memories. I posted on GameFAQS message boards a LOT in 2000-2004 because it was the only place I could talk about the random online console games I was playing like Speed Devils on Dreamcast. Also shout out to Frank Provo, I haven't heard that name in forever, I read a lot of his reviews

I remember at the time the Rickroll had more of an impact because it really was the cheesiest of cheesy '80s music videos. The shrill tinny synths, his awkward white boy dance moves, the bartender doing backflips - it was straight Velveeta. I think over the course of the 2010s music became more inspired by that late '80s synth pop sound so nowadays it doesn't seem as special, but circa 2009 my teenager friends and I thought it had this hilarious "wtf am I watching" vibe

My problem with the discord stuff is that it's blatantly so that bots can scrape the data from public servers to add to models, even though I agree that so much important knowledge being locked into servers you have to join to access the info is a problem
