Welcome to the Jeff Gerstmann Hall of Fame, where we look at the games that made us. Except instead of us, I mean me. Jeff Gerstmann. We're starting with a game that has, for some reason, been on my mind for much of the last month. It was the first game I wrote down when thinking about games that "stick out" over the course of my lifetime with video games.
That game is Rambo: First Blood - Part II for the Sega Master System. Releasing in 1986, the game finds itself right at home alongside other early action shooters like Commando and Ikari Warriors. Sega cooked up a neat little movement mechanic that gives it its own feel, too. Can you think of any other games that tried to handle movement this way? Let me know.
This is an early access post, and the plan is to reveal these to the public (via YouTube) about a month after you get access to them. So this one will be widely available on or around August 1. This also my first test of Patreon's video uploader, which I'm told is still technically a beta. So if this player isn't ideal, I will probably also upload this to YouTube as an unlisted video and post the link here. I mean we'll know soon enough, as I'm typing this, the upload is 66% complete.
I want to thank all of you for your ongoing support of this endeavor of ours, the last month has been an absolute blast and I'm looking forward to finding fun ways to expand on the things that we're already doing.
This video is also on YouTube now. It's unlisted, so please don't spread the URL around, you know the drill. https://youtu.be/0F-WHF_TjD0
