Welcome back to the Jeff Gerstmann Hall of Fame, where we look at the games responsible for me turning out the way I am. It's perhaps more of a hall of blame than a hall of fame, but regardless of how you look at it... I love these video games. Some video games are easy to love! Others make it a little more difficult. Action Biker for the Commodore 64 is a game that I played a whooooole lot of back in the late 1980s. It was originally released in 1985 and, in the UK, it appeared to have some kind of promotional tie-in with KP Skips, a brand of chips. Er... crisps. Sorry. Here in the US, that context was missing because, as you'll see, none of that was represented in the actual video game itself! Super weird. But also a really interesting example of an early attempt at a more "open world" kind of concept.

This video will also run on YouTube and I'll update this post with an unlisted link as soon as that version is ready. Until then? Stay crispy, friends! See you for the podcast tomorrow, 10AM sharp!

Here it is on YouTube, unlisted, in case the video above doesn't work to your liking: https://youtu.be/lx1tOmwEtTQ

I remember also goofing around with this game quite a bit when I was young. Mostly picking up a few of the items and just doing the stunts. I was always super interested in the open world concept. Played the heck out of games like Mercenary/Damocles with the early 3d too.

I looked up KP Skips and they're Prawn flavored? Not only are they prawn flavored they're "tingly" and some are "more tingly than ever"??? 🤨

Hex

Worth noting that they mean "Prawn Cocktail" more than just prawn.

I've finally watched the video and Jeff does mention this! Also, that game was very cute. Great video!

KP skips were indeed prawn cocktail flavor and yes they melted in your mouth. Nice seeing C64 action and classic British crisp all in one video. Mercenary was a classic.
