Glenn and Jeff might not have been around to record this episode if they  had been able to cash in their prize for winning the Bomberman '93  tournament back at CES. Luckily, cooler parental heads prevailed and  they are alive to tell the tale of the TurboGrafx-16, Jeff's flea market  acquisition(s), Jesus, and more.

As a kid, living on the other side of the world, I found pornography discarded in the woods.

I think the difference between the re-use of movie tropes (like in your exorcists and the like) and music sampling is that they can do so much with the music samples (slow it down, speed it up, etc). For example, the song 'Genius of Love' by Tom Tom Club has been sampled hundreds of times but some people might not have heard of it at all and it might even let you appreciate the song that samples it (even Fantasy by Mariah - maybe not so much Lazzo). All you can really do with a movie cliche/trope is re-interpret it practically verbatim or parody it, you can't change it much otherwise it gets lost in the process.

my daughter lives for Hamilton. My wife made it like 8 minutes into the movie before she tapped out.

Weird Wonderboy in Monsterland and Wonderboy 3: The Dragons Trap fan here. Have never played any of the Adventure Island stuff, just the 2 Master System games. They are good! The music for Dragons Trap was especially great, as was the remake.

So that switch on the back of a 3DO switches between "MODE 1" and "MODE 2", which is just 480i output (as is the 3DO's standard), and 240p output, which not only scales much cleaner but also most games get a noticeable performance boost. It's pretty cool! Debug units have them as well as most Japanese market FZ-1s. I actually ordered my 3DO from one of those Japanese ebay sellers because it had a mode switch on the back in the photos, but the dude sent me a different console than the one pictured, with no mode switch. So I'm stuck on 480i. You can add a switch with an RGB mod, but I don't feel like I really wanna RGB mod a 3DO lol. I like the thing, but the native s-video output is totally fine, especially on a CRT. Anyway, if you or Glenn still have one with a mode switch, hold onto that thing! They're super useful.

I definitely agree with the subject that going back to old games is way less about "appreciating the classics" and there's just way more interest on things that shouldn't have been made but are filled with batshit oddities. Stuff like MandaloreGaming I think has that area cornered where he gives you an overview of some slovakian adventure game based off a german play or whatever. CD rom based games especially just have a lot of nonsensical things you really couldn't make nowadays? Like sure you could make a throwback with prerendered or photoscanned actors but we're just too selfaware and irony poisoned that old obscure retro games waiting for a youtuber/streamer to pick them up scratch a certain itch. So yeah idk, retro games are slowly changing to have a different purpose.
