Damn that Shenmue story is more crazy than TP's 8.8. I'm very interested in the weird political aspect of numbers pinned to a video game. The spreadsheeting it and the conversations had about those, but I guess we're not at the gamespot era yet. Enjoying the series so far, as someone born in '91 things like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were already so dominant but I do remember Street Fighter 2 cabinets on ferry boats and generally renting anything movie/animated related to those games so it's cool to hear about the initial context. What I'm looking forward to the most is the Sega Saturn and the awkward tranistion to 3D that every company faced. There's a weird "nostalgia I never had" feeling I get from booting a saturn up and wondering what the vibe was for the games in tradeshows, like was stuff like Panzer Dragoon impressive for its time? Idk stuff like that I'm looking forward to.
