As we weave our way toward the final category, it's nice to look ahead for a moment. What's the unreleased (but formally announced!) game you're most looking forward to in the year(s) ahead? This one was kind of a no-brainer for me, but as more and more games get pushed and delayed and announced and re-announced there's really kind of a glut of announced-but-unreleased games out there right now. Which one are you pining for the hardest? Let me know!

Again, the ground rules: the game must be formally announced, we're not looking for "The Next Great Game From NetherRealm" here or anything vague like that. Also, now that we're starting to see games that might not ship until 2024, I'll just say that those are eligible as well. The game doesn't have to have an announced date in 2023... because hell, they're all gonna get delayed into 2024 anyway, right?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Richard

Final Fantasy XVI. It might be the only AAA game in 2023 I play.

Brody Doss

Resident Evil 4. Capcom knows how to do a great remake and this one could be the best yet.

Neon Pop

New Metroid Prime

Tucker Raccoon

FF16 off the top of my head. I love FF14 and the team behind it so I can't wait.

Mason W

Street Fighter 6, can wait to jump in and fight the street.

Alasdair Duncan

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, even if it's not out this year, I can definitely wait.

Chris Mate

Baldur's Gate 3. I'll admit I was torn between this and FFXVI. And even honorable mention for Diablo IV, Starfield, and Redfall. There is so much to look forward to in gaming right now, but what will hopefully be the quintessential D&D 5th edition has to top the list for me.

Kevin Johnson

At the moment, I'm most excited for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Despite the change of genre and its live-service aspects, the trailers have been exciting and entertaining. The gameplay gives me Sunset Overdrive vibes, and the different personalities of the playable characters shine through. Plus, I'm just hyped to play a new Rocksteady game.

Steve Francis

Street Fighter 6. Nothing comes close for me. I'm keen for Diablo 4 and hopeful for Company of Heroes 3, but I'm betting on SF6 to be, assuming it all comes together, the GOTY for 2023.

BEEFCAKE

Hollow knight: silksong. That first one was just so solid

Mason

Tears of the Kingdom, Even though I don't love Breath of the Wild I'm hoping they can use the foundation of that game to make something special. Diablo 4 is a close second

Michael Hash

It’s a packed year assuming that everything that’s supposed to release actually does. Even with all that, I’d take Silksong right now over everything else.

David Redekop

Zelda TotK for me,, but this is a tough question. To me there's two streams of hype for a game - the kind based on the potential for an announced game (Starfield), and the kind based on a robust understanding of what a game will actually be before you dive in (Dead Space). Both are interesting to look at.

Matthew Hoerig

Skull and Bones. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it until it’s out: l really liked the Black Flag naval combat and after so many ups and downs (okay, downs) and delays…I have to know how it turns out.

Marty

Like A Dragon: Ishin! is easily the game I am most looking forward to this year. Ishin was one of the Yakuza games that we never thought would be localized. Instead it is the flag bearer for the rebranding of the series and a showcase of where it is headed in the future.

Rhett Woody

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf I’m honestly not entirely sure why at this point, but I can’t help myself. I think Dragon Age: Origins is one of the greatest games ever made, but 2 and Inquisition started to get a little bloated and became more action game than I prefer. I have very little hope that Dreadwolf will swing back further in the CRPG direction, but a man can dream, right?

Jason Loss

FF 16, I can't wait!

Craig Parker

Hades 2. Super tough one, I have a few very close seconds, but damn this is gonna be good. And on steamdeck it will be divine

Michael Bach

I am a sucker for AAA games. It is Starfield for me :)

Michael Bach

This is a tie with Starfield for me. I dont know much about Dreadwulf but I have great memories from the first game.

Josh Harper

Starfield, I think I have fairly realistic expectations at this point but I can't wait to mess around with it. Close second is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Joseph Tavano

Frog Fractions 3 Nah just kidding. Elder Scrolls 6

Jordan Hass

Wreckreation, especially if it feels like a cross between burnout and trackmania

Ian Zamojc

Control 2 and the new Alan Wake.

Hugo César García

Probably Hollow Knight Silksong or Hades 2 early access if it comes out this year.

Jeremy Barrett

Like a Dragon 8/Ishin/Gaiden. Normally, it would have been Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but I got really into Yakuza recently and boy, I just want that world injected into my veins.

MegaSilverX1

Dragon Quest III HD-2D I'd say Dragon Quest XII, but that game still seems a ways away.

Aaron J

Final Fantasy 16 and Street Fighter 6. Lots to pick from though. I’m usually not big on new AAA games but 2023 looks like a hell of a year.

Greg Petrie

Tears of the Kingdom, in part to see if it's just more BOTW or if they did something different with it. Also interested in what Atomic Heart and Mina the Hollower turn out to be.

Tyler S

Harry Potter Simulator 2023

Brian Thomsen

Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy and Street Fighter 6

David Doel

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

christian ates

Lies of P. This is a tough one though, Starfield and SF6 are close runners up. Not to mention a ton of other games that hopefully come out this year.

Uranium

Payday 3. As much as I love fighting games and there are some I anticipate liking (Street Fighter 6) or liking but not playing since Harada doesn't like how good netcode works (Tekken 8), I sunk over 500 hours popping helmets while defending my crew from the elemental plane of law enforcement. I dig the new composers stuff and I appreciate some of the experiments they're trying with the newer Payday 2 dlc.

Nathan H.

I'd say Lies of P - I think all of my other anticipated games are "known quantities" (Diablo IV, Zelda, Starfield). But I'm both intrigued and completely clueless on how Lies of P will turn out.

Kacho

Pistol Whip on PSVR2! The last VR stuff I ever played was on the original Duct Tape and Popsicle Sticks PSVR, and it was was maybe a half step above playing Dactyl Nightmare on the Virtuality machine at the mall. The tracking was so terrible that I had to play Rez Area X out of my peripheral vision, no matter what I did. I also didn’t have the Move controllers, so a lot of games were out of the question. Pistol Whip got mentioned in passing to me, but I confused it with Boneworks and those other gun games. But now I know that it’s a stylized, fast moving, shoot-guns-to-the beat experience, and I have an actual capable headset on the way, so *that game* on this new headset sounds amazing. Can’t wait for it. Oh, and Beat Saber, which I’ve also never played! And GT7! And…

Adam W Hamilton

I don't even know what's all coming out except like a dragon.

Zain Abba

Forza Motorsport I enjoyed Horizon a lot, but also would love some quality circuit racing. Also, as a South African, I'm so excited to see Kyalami in the game.

Ryan Stafford

Judas, because I could go for another Shock game. I don't expect it to come out until 2024 or 2025 though. My real answer is The Elder Scrolls VI but that's probably not coming until 2026 or so, I suppose my answer for the nearer future is Starfield by association.

Roose

Hoping Payday 3 is not a mess and Granblue Fantasy ReLink has made it out the other side of development hell in tact because it looks kino. Wanna see what Redfall is too i guess. Cant say im a big "anticipate new games" guy anymore though

Colton Royle

Starfield, right? I mean they have a lot to prove with this one. New IP, first game post-Microsoft acquisition, and to me they ran out of gas in the Skyrim/fallout era, so they need a shake up. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Andrew McCann

Armored Core 6, by far. I’m really interested to see what FromSoft can do divorced from the Souls formula. I’m also quietly optimistic this results in Otogi 3.

autumn sevier

Starfield. i tend to like the formula that is BGS games, fallout's setting never really did it for me but i love the elder scrolls since morrowind on my og xbox so i'm hoping this does it for me , what they teased seemed good if not more of the same which at this point seems fine to me.

CakeAngel

Elder Scrolls 6. it's years away, even Playstation 6 / Xbox Series X 2 material.

Wes Koop

Dragon Quest XII

alucard1801

Yeah Starfield. Microsoft really needs it.

Rakete

Fable With Microsoft having Bethesda for the serious RPGs like Elder Scrolls and Starfield I hope they double down on Fable being goofy and charming like the first two installments were

Kuno Woudt

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Runner's up are Assassin's Creed Mirage and Like a Dragon 8.

Vidya Obscura

Resident Evil 4 Remake The original Resident Evil 4 was the one that got me into collecting video games in the first place.

Joseph

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Zach

Hollow Knight: Silksong assuming it comes out in 2023.

David Johnson

Final Fantasy 16. I would really like to enjoy a FF game again with no qualms about it. Last one of those was FF10.

Adam Marsh

Jedi Survivor - first game had such well realized characters, looked gorgeous, and some very satisfying combat

Aaron Seddon

Probably Zelda but it’s impossible to believe it’ll be better than BOTW, right??

J May

It's gotta be Zelda.

Joe Lees

The Elder Scrolls 6

Glen Greer

Starfield. Next closest would be Zelda TotK, but I'm doubtful Nintendo will have another BotW hit. Plus all of my Joy Cons have drift, and ... I can't even with this thing anymore.

feliscele

Starfield. I’m very skeptical of some of the stuff they’ve been talking up—in particular, 1000 proc-gen planets with proc-gen quests sounds like the game equivalent of slogging through a swimming pool full of oatmeal. However, I’m generally a huge Bethesda mark, being one of those people who keeps buying Skyrim over and over, and I have yet to have a bad time with any of their single player RPGs which invariably wind up being my GOTYs. Will this be the year that breaks that streak? Maybe!

Dusty Regalia

Baldur’s Gate 3. A sequel to my favorite game of all time from the best turn based RPG developers working today. Maybe it won’t live up to either BG2 or the awesomeness of Divinity Original Sin 2, but I’m glad they’re attempting it anyways.

Captain Ginyu

✨ The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ✨

nahcq

Zelda, Silksong orrrrrr... Returnal coming out on PC probably. There's tons of games I'm looking forward to, but no way to know if they will come out this year or not.

Brandon_Machine

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

MunnyShh

I suppose it's FF16 due to my trust in YoshiP and Creative Business Unit III (read in a very robotic voice). That said, I'm more cautiously curious for that and Zelda Tears. I can't say I'm really anticipating or very excited for a lot as I've been more of a patient gamer to reduce spending and use my limited time more enjoyably.

Khetix

Jedi Survivor, I think. I played Fallen Order around a year after release, it was plenty patched and it looked and played great. If this is more of the first game, with less sliding, I'd be stoked.

Odyssydical

Street fighter 6 easily. Think Capcom can really make another SF4 level impact with this one.

Daniel Cruver

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom The first Zelda is the earliest video game that I saw before I could play it. At that moment it was my most anticipated game. I have had a gap of not playing the Zelda video games but with BoTW I played it day one. Hope they keep the quality up and keep the game entertaining for children and adults of all ages.

Randy Fitzpatrick

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Because Sega refuses to give the people another Jet Set Radio.

Jagster

Honestly, probably Final Fantasy XVI. It's hard to makena final call from trailers alone, but SE seems to be pulling out all the stops for this next mainline entry. Plus, it being a mature-rated entry is additionally interesting

Grozz

Final Fantasy 16 for me, if only because Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth technically has a 'winter' release window rather than a concrete calendar year 2023 date. Very excited for Zelda too, of course.

Tsiku

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Playing hundreds of hours of BotW during lockdown kept me sane. I'm ready for more

Derek McKay

I am going to be basic and look forward to FFXIV and Diablo iv

Michael Gibler

Gotta be Starfield. I think Tears of the Kingdom has a good chance to be better, but even if its a train wreck I need to see what Starfield is.

Kristian

The Finals! Which I’m not sure is even going to release this year. It’s a game that will either be terrible, and forgotten about within a month or will be huge.

Alex S

Zelda and street fighter 6

Anders Widebrant

Starfield is still interesting to me somewhat despite the trailer

Galeforce

Baldur's Gate 3 is shaping up to be phenomenal, if Early Access is any indicator.

CamGearz

Starfield. I know it won't be exactly like Skyrim in space, yet I'm unrealistically setting my expectations for Skyrim in space.

First Warden

Diablo IV but actually Starfield Honourable mention: ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON Ordinarily, without all the Activision Blizzard that KEEPS HAPPENING this would be an easy win for Diablo IV but after everything that happened I just can't manage to have a positive outlook on what the final product will be on release and further on. With that I'm very much hedging my bets and hoping that "Skyrim in space, with maybe a lil Fallout" will end up with a good 2 weeks off work.

Merc-a-dude

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom thought tbh I'm a little leery that it'll live up to expectations especially on a long-past its prime Switch. If this was on a Super Switch I would be beyond hyped. As it stands I'm intrigued but waiting with baited breath. And that's really it for 2023. Don't get it twisted, I'm sure the year has the chance to be amazing but nowadays the hyped up games rarely get me excited and usually my favorite games of the year come from unexpected places.

The Crazy Man

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

ben Korol

I just want to see what mods do to Starfield

zma1013

Resident Evil 4 Remake. The original is in my top 5 games of all time and I usually play it once a year or when they release a new version of it... so yeah once a year. Greatest action game of all time in my book. Hope the remake does it justice.
