Ya know, I never really thought of "Ranking the NES" as a title for this series, it was mostly just a utilitarian group of words that described what the heck I was doing as quickly as possible.

I just wanted to thank everyone for backing the project and I'm glad that people seem to be enjoying these NES videos. Or, at least, people are watching them, that's the only metric I'm kinda going by. I was a little wary to go all-in on such a lengthy project, but people seem to dig it! I've been having a ton of fun making it, too! So hopefully it's all working out for everyone.

This week's video covers a weird batch of games, and I'm happy to have finally re-approached Blaster Master. I think I was scared a bit that it wouldn't hold up. After all, I never really felt all that drawn to the newer games in the series, for whatever reason. Now, after checking out the original again, I've gone ahead and downloaded Blaster Master Zero 1, 2, and 3.

Suicide Squad was the "big game" this week. While it's always nice to have large releases to cover, this one ain't doing it for me at all. Sounds like some people are squeezing some fun out of it, but I've gone back to it a couple of times since the Wednesday stream and just can't find much to like there. I should probably stop poking at it and go finish the Tekken 8 story mode, huh?

Have a solid Sunday, I'll see you for the podcast.

Is Blaster Master As Good As You Remember? Let's Find Out! | Ranking the NES, Episode 25

In my mind Blaster Master is one of the all-time greats for the NES. But I'm not really sure if it holds up anymore. Was I just a dumb kid? Possible! We'll also look at Double Dribble, Paperboy, Code Name: Viper and more! Weirdly, Ranking the NES is what made me subscribe to your Patreon a couple of weeks ago! Made me realize that I like your solo content more than I thought I did, and then I needed Game Boyz II Men injected into my ear holes.

I like to play along by firing up my Analogue Pocket and trying the games. It makes me realize you are pretty damn good at games because I can hardly keep up.

The series is pure joy. Thanks for doing what you do.

I'm not of the era at all that would land me as somone with memories to NES other than Super Mario Bros - so I really thought I wouldn't like it - and at first I didn't tune in. But now it's just something I come to look forward to seeing posted, it's giving me some insight I didn't have. I obviously I can't speak for the rest of the patrons here, but I would personally love seeing an equivalent to this but on the dreamcast - since it's one of my favorite memories of receiving that from my pops at the age of 8-9. I think the idea could apply to any console, but given your multiple takes on the dreamcast, and what I imagine to be the demographic of your audience (30+ year olds) - I think it would be a great fit. Either way, great job Jeff! And thanks for doing all this work, it means the world to all of us, I think. More than you know man.

I look forward to it every week and I'm glad you're enjoying it. It definitely comes through in the video.

Thank YOU! I hope this series can continue on with the SNES, N64 etc. and maybe even move into the Playstation and SEGA territory.

I do the same with my Chinese emulation handheld! Damn, great minds subscribe to Jeff Gerstmann, I guess.

It's a fun series! I was 4 or 5 when we got our NES in the late 80s, and most of them I haven't played in years, so it's fun to watch you play them and see if they hold up to how I remember them in my head. Yoshi and Bases Loaded definitely looked worse than I remember! Looking forward to seeing Rad Racer eventually, as all I remember is I was terrible at it, but every once in a while the music from that game still pops into my head.

We just need to get thru the NES library first, but I kind of hope the Genesis is the next pillar we build.

I was a C-64 kid cuz my parents needed some educational excuse to buy me a video game machine! :D So this series suits me nicely.
