i love james so so much. it’s really interesting knowing what we know of him from project meridian and now this? wow he really does reserve himself for his partner. he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders and the only person that he wants and seems even cares about, is his partner. i love their dynamic already and i hope (they better or i swear to god) they get a happy ending because it’s what they both deserve. it’s also really interesting to see what a healthy, therapised person does with their powers and how he uses them with and for his partner, unlike cutie. he feels safe, they are his home and cutie cannot physically feel like that with geordie. i adore this audio and i cannot wait to see more from the james

Omg James!! We got to see a whole different side to him!! This quickly bumped up my list of favourite dynamics!! What an interesting pair! James is a very reserved person it seems, holding back EVERYTHING, but when his thoughts slipped I teared up 🥺 I hope we get to see more of this couple, even if it’s just a phone conversation in the current timeline. Like James gets a minute away from his job to talk to his partner. It was also really cool to see James use Telepathy in a different way to how Cutie does. It makes me curious about whether there listener is empowered or not (I don’t think it was mentioned). I’ll admit, I was least excited for this audio because I didn’t know what to expect, but honestly James has now become a favourite 😍

Re: listener being empowered, assuming that this is the canon universe's counterpart to James' Imperium listener, I'm pretty sure they're unempowered.

also, im finding it kinda funny how the further we get from Marcus's perspective, the less and less sympathetic he gets. cos for most of the series it seemed like, "aww hes lonely and sad" and then its like "this kinda seems sus but the spooky corporate takeover makes us feel like the underdog and is distracting us" and then with the Brian audio its like "uhhh... this is really starting to seem unethical on many many fronts, from a robotic consent perspective and from a jepordizing the livelyhoods of people with a wife and kids perspective?" and then when the android went full Yandere its like "bro at this point no ones having fun" and then the bomb of Marcus being able to deactivate the obsession code at literally any time is like "ooookaaayyy the pity party is really coming to a screeching halt here" and then when the OTHER bomb of James working for DUMP and the project is in service of keeping the meridian intact its like "OOOOKAAAY HOLD UP this dude was stalling the progress of something thats trying to save reality from unraveling????" and then the confrontation audio where Marcus is just laid bare as a pathetic nerd whos life is crumbling around him and has no one to blame but himself its like "how the fuck else did you think this would go??? you would have had the same if not better results if you just got a fleshlight and coded a VR waifu in your spare time, i deadass dont feel bad for you"

I believe it is prime timeline. James mentions the 'Department' a few times (I know the Imperium could also be called the Department but trust me here) and he implies to his partner about how important this job is and how he describes his job is similar to how he describes it to the Android. We already know how important the job is and while we have yet to have it confirmed that he is also with his partner in both timelines, it isn't beyond the stretch of imagination.

I realize that this is canon universe rather than the Imperium; sorry if my first comment was unclear! I just meant that since Imperium!James had an unempowered childhood friend as a love interest, then canon!James' love interest is also an unempowered childhood friend unless otherwise specified. Kinda like how both versions of Freelancer and Lasko are humanborns, or how Milo and Sweetheart are a couple in both universes. Basically, if Imperium!James is coupled with Imperium!James' Listener, then canon!James is coupled with canon!James' Listener and not canon!Some Other Rando, if that makes sense lmao.
