shut up i adore this. damien being so protective of those he loves is just so great to see. they both know they’re not the closest in the friend group but they’re still close friends, gavin just doesn’t expect damien to care about him as much as damien does. the tenderness, patience and closeness that these two share with eachother is beautiful. this conversation has bought them closer together. gavin has dealt with so much and damien is a fixer, but still so respectful, it’s so cool to see that switch flip when he realised why gavin didn’t argue with the person. and then damien getting called gross? i will fight a bitch. but gavin going “i don’t think you feel gross” stop it i wept. that hug fixed problems for the both of them. gavin is freelancer’s romantic soulmate, but damien is their platonic one and i love to see these two become closer

Dear god I have so much to say. Okay first of all I LOVE the way the colors change on the cassette player to distinguish who’s talking it’s so creative and very pleasing to the eyes. Second of all the reference to lasko and his new boo, the way they theorized it right away, chefs kiss plus the fact that lasko hasn’t been that flustered in two years my baby has gained confidence. Third of all MY BOYS I adore Damien and Gavin time. Fourth of all Damien’s passion for social justice and the passion to protect his friends gets me every time. The way he exclaims “Gav” when he heard the feeder thing, there was so much care in just that one word. Heart explodes at how good that boy is. Fifth of all DAMIEN INITIATING THE HUG SHUT UP IM IN TEARS and then the entire conversation after that about how he actually likes hugs people were just mean to him. Sobbing. And finally of course incredible work as always thank you for all you do Erik and for giving us a little guy time with the boys (also the my fair lady and Huxley comment sent me rolling 😂)

I had suspicions for the longest time about Gavin’s first experience at the academy, but even still, it’s heartbreaking to listen to this. The weightedness that still hangs in his voice when he thinks back on his experiences, how it bleeds into his behavior in those moments. But, ‘One last hoop,’ doesn’t mean keeping his head down anymore, and I’m glad to see him, Damien, and FL are already making plans to address this once everything is done. And while Damien will push back hard when it concerns others, it never feels like he’s taking away agency from the people he’s fighting for. On a lighter note, seeing Gavin and Damien banter with each other is always a treat, but I have an incredible fondness for those moments we get with them playing off of each other (see: theorizing on Lasko’s evening plans). This will probably go down as another favorite of mine. Incredible job as always, Erik!!

This dynamic is so well written. I live for this kind of friendship, it's probably why I love the Freelancer series so much, and seeing the relationships within the D.A.M.N. crew evolve like this is so satisfying and heartwarming. I'll be honest, I didn't know what to expect from a Gavin and Damien audio, especially one without a listener as a buffer, but after listening to this I'm sold. I absolutely love their banter and the way they're there for each other. Amazing work, you keep putting out bangers and this one is no exception :D

Ah, so i was right about damien doing the comforting. also, the way Damien sounded when he said "gav" in around 10:05 of the audio got me. Like, you can tell how he cares so much about him despite they're not the closest together. Also, can we talk about how Damien actually doesn't hate hugs and that the reason for it being he was called gross for his warmth? That made me wanna throw hands and Gavin responding "I don't think you're gross" made me smile like an idiot 👉👈 Love these two sm and godbless you Erik for making me giggly in the first few and last minutes of the audio––

What a beautiful interaction. How do you ALWAYS hit the mark on being both incredibly heartwarming and funny at the same time, Erik? Through all the teasing, to see them just be friends made my heart melt a little (or maybe a lot - I'll never tell). With Gavin being vulnerable and sharing his experience with discrimination, we saw Damien feel comfortable opening up to Gavin about the reason for rejecting hugs. The DAMN group and their storyline is forever my favourite and one of the reasons why is the tackling of subjects like this, even in a world of magic you can't escape the realities of bigotry and the effect it has; I love that they are all so ready to go to bat for each other, it sounds like FL was also ready to raise Cain on Gavin's behalf, and the second Damien gets on staff at DAMN you just know he'll be turning the whole place on its head.

Awww I love the dynamics of the DAMN crew! And it’s so great to see the relationships outside of FL. It’s frustrating that poor Gavin is being discriminated against, but I’m sure everyone in the group would rally to his side if he decides to do something about it.
