The first couple episodes def have some cringey scenes with all the teen drama during worldbuilding, but the show gets a whole lot better throught the season.

I finally find the second episode. TVD is a wonderfully written show, but every world every action has its own importance, there is not waist of conversations, no filler scenes or episodes, TVD is jam pack with facts, actions, relevant scenes and most important very relevant conversations and the subject of that conversation has details that will connect with something later on. That is why in this show people understand and are used to reactors pause while talking because what characters say is very important. Another thing to pay attention here is the body language that is 30% of the scrip, sometimes character say something and meant the opposite, but I can see you two will not have problem with understanding that , I can see you two are very perceptive. Another tings is motivation, ask yourself what is the motivation of their action and of their conversation. Why Damon came into town? Why he was spying on Elena and Stefan in the cemetery? Why Damon promise an eternity of misery to Stefan, what Stefan did that is so bad to make his own brother promise that? Why Stefan is pursuing Elena? Why he is pretending to be a high school boy? Why Damon killed those strangers, but not Vicky? He came into town for a specific reason, as Stefan did. And we established in the first episode that his intentions were to make problem for his brother, he wanted to discourage him to stay. But Stefan wasn't leaving so he change plan and made himself known: IT is clear that he wants his brother to be what he is, not to lie, to himself or to Elena, that is why the conversation with Elena and Stefan , in their house, Damon mention Katherine to Elena, and in front of Stefan terrified, he mention the family album, that is obviously very old, and would give their age away. That conversation wasn't for the benefit of Elena, was between the brothers, but was a warning to Elena to question things that Stefan is not what she things; and Stefan did not like to risk to be exposed. Later the brothers alone, Damon "That is why you play I am a high school boy?" Stefan "I am not playing any game" Damon "of course you do". There are things between the brothers that are not what they seem to be. And Katherine what is the sentence Damon “are you afraid that we are doomed to repeat the past?" Well there is a lot to understand and to unpack too.

By the way, in this show the choice of songs is very deliberate, the songs are the voice over of what is going on on the scene, and in Elena and Stefan first kiss scene tha word of the song say that: Something always brings me back to you It never takes too long No matter what I say or do I still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone You hold me without touch You keep me without chains I never wanted anything so much Than to drown in your love and not feel your rain Set me free, leave me be I don't wanna fall another moment into your gravity Here I am and I stand so tall I'm just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me and all over me Oh, you loved me 'cause I'm fragile When I thought that I was strong But you touch me for a little while And all my fragile strength is gone Set me free, leave me be I don't wanna fall another moment into your gravity Here I am and I stand so tall I'm just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me and all over me I leave here on my knees As I try to make you see That you're everything I think I need Here on the ground But you're neither friend nor foe Though I can't seem to let you go The one thing that I still know Is that you're keeping me down You're keeping me down, ya, ya. ya ya (the moment they kissed) You're on to me, on to me and all over...etc It look much darker than it appear to be, it looks like Elena is not in a very good romantic situation, especially in the view of what she told him, that she is in a vulnerable situation after her parents died, tta she is scared and she doesn't know if she can take something crashing down in her world again, she is starting a relationship with a vampire that is hiding from her very important information about himself , her , Katherine and the whole situation, making her choice a non free choice .

Sorry for the lenghty posts but there is a lot to say in TVD, especially at the beginning when reactor don't know what kind of show they are watching. This hsow as nothing to do with Twilights, the fan get offene if you comapre TVd to Twilights, because it's just a g cringy not believable, teen love triangle, while TVD is a poetic essay on the human condition in all the nuances.
