This was the first Indiana Jones movie I saw actually, so I missed out on the hate. Which I feel is rather excessive.

Clara Hines

I don't get it. What's wrong with this movie? People seem to dislike it, and I don't understand that. What do they dislike about it?

Clara Hines

I have seen it several times before. I suppose that I'm biased because I absolutely love movies about aliens. But to answer your question about the Russian Doctor, the aliens wanted to give them a gift for returning the skull. She took them up on that and asked for the gift of knowing everything they know. They obliged, and she failed to realize that there was no way her mind could hold what theirs could. Look at their brains. Bigger than ours. No wonder Ox went mad. Trying to understand all of it was beyond us. She got what she asked for, and it ended up killing her. They didn't PURPOSELY kill her, although they probably knew she was asking for too much but gave it to her anyway since it was her choice to make. They offered a gift, she told them what gift she wanted, and they gave it to her. I don't think there was any malice involved on their part. To them, she was a less evolved being who wanted more than she should, and they gave it to her because they said they'd give them a gift. If you recall throughout the movie, she was obsessed with knowing all kinds of things. She had this idea that if they knew the secret of the skull's ability to control, then they could use that for the Soviet Union to control their enemies. She was convinced that would work. So she didn't think before she asked for the gift.
