First off, which one is your favorite? I’d love to know! 😄

I just got back from Japan, where I had an incredible time at my first two shows. I was part of the UDON team for both events, and it was an amazing learning experience, especially in understanding what to sell and offer. The Japanese crowd has a strong preference for commissions and original art over prints or posters, so I came prepared with a fresh set of 200 Copic markers for the journey. Even though I brought marker paper and blank covers, most commissioners already had their own blank covers ready for the work.

I worked non-stop during the shows and back at my hotel for days, completing artwork to either mail within Japan or deliver at the next show. Thankfully, everything was finished and delivered on time—but my back definitely paid the price!

Each piece took about five hours to complete, and I streamlined the process by working on batches of three at a time. Grouping the same character designs allowed me to use the same markers across multiple pieces, which sped things up considerably.
